A Troy Hammer Kral PB Story Part 1: Check out my Rig!

I wanted to make a single, comprehensive review of my first PCP (that I've been postponing for years to purchase) and share my story on why and how I got what I did but realize it's probably going to be more like a multi-part saga... Anyways I'll try to be short and somewhat thorough to give background and then get to the point;

  • Kral Puncher Breaker .22 base platform
  • Troy Hammer Tune, designed for 45fpe (currently shooting 50fpe!)
    • Trigger adjustment
    • Enlarged transfer port
    • Modified power adjuster
    • Upgraded cocking lever
    • Modified valve/hardened stem
    • Quiet kit - I turned shroud backwards and removed the baffles/spring
    • Bunch of other stuff to make it sweet (?)
  • Donny FL Tanto LDC
  • Cleaned barrel
  • Added Atlas clone bipod
  • Reinforced and epoxied bottom picatinny rail
  • UTG SWAT 3-12x44 compact glass etched scope
  • Shoots JSB's pretty gnarly
    • This is a hunter and set up for 36 shots (3 full mags) at 870fps with 25.39 Monsters for 43fpe from 220bar to 155bar
      • I think I've had some spring setting issues, tweaked the hammer to about 24 shots at 900fps but expecting replacement spring, more to follow
    • shoots 18.13's at just over half power at about 860fps and POI just about doesn't change at all, not sure how many shots
    • shoots 15.89's at just over 2/5ths power at about 820fps and spot on at 25yds
    • 14.3's are pellet on pellet but POI changes low left, love to know how many shots there at just 2/5ths power...
  • Hand pumping with cheap chinese rig, takes about 120 pumps from 150bar to 220bar
  • got a sweet UTG over the shoulder bag that holds gun without LDC on and pump with plenty of other storage

OK, how about some pictures? Had some long shots today too, battled decent gusts but was pretty impressed. All shots were centered on crosshairs except last group was one dot mil hold over (from what I could tell..) at 12X on my mini scope - tough to see at 78 yards!

Hoping to close up those groups and analyze a whole lot more. One side note is I ordered 4 tins of those 25.39's and many were damaged, one tin almost completely unusable.

that’s a good looking PCP you have there,Troy is the man when it comes to this platform I have two of these rigs ...one .22 and one .25 and love them both, can’t beat the bang for buck.

I was debating between .22 and .25 but thought that ultimately that if I could get 45+ out of a .22 it may have a better BC than .25. How are your guns set up and what have you found to be the pro's and con's of the two - when do you go for the .22 and when for the .25?

This is what I have coming in .25 from Troy, tuned and with the new side lever, I ordered it on October 22nd so it shouldn’t be to much longer unless he is waiting for more parts.

Beautiful choice! Yeah, Troy's tunes are fantastic and he stands behind them should you have any, albeit unlikely, issues in performance. My suggestion is try to be patient though, I guy that does this great of work for such a reasonable price is, understandably, VERY BUSY and he is a man of high demand right now, but also great integrity so you'll get a great value, just try to temper your anticipation (as hard as it is, uh...).

Nice looking Kral, looks good with the Tonto on it, Now it’s all about practice practice practice and keep the info and pics coming.

Jim.

Looks bitchin'! Shoot'em good

Sweet gun man, troy can sure dial these.

Thanks, been many years wanting to get my first PCP and many many hours trying to decide which one. I couldn't be more impressed with it so far, feel very fortunate.

I have a Marauder in .22 and a Trail NP XL in .22 but they don’t get shot anymore, my answer to the 22 or 25 question is easy for me. If I was a paper shooter and or I lived in the city or town a 22 or 177 would be my choice for airguns, they are both quiet and accurate for paper punching plus they can control the bird and squirrel population, just so happens I live out in the country so going with the .25 was a easier decision for me plus the critters get a bit bigger out in the country like skunk, raccoons and a few others not to say you don’t get them in town but more of them in the country, I also shoot steel and I like the ability to hear the shot hitting the target when you get out to 50 yards and beyond. In my book all airguns have there intended purposes it’s just what’s your intended purpose for buying what you have, paper, plinking or hunting.

Im in no hurry, I have plenty of other nice shooters that this will sit next to and be up against so it’s needs to be done right. Troy was up front and honest with me and said it would be a few weeks or so and I’m just fine with that. Ive been cleaning my ARs and Long guns and letting them now I’m still around. I also put together two different scopes with LaserWorks rangefinders on them to see what one I like the best when I get my Mega, granted I wount leave the rangefinders on all the time but need to start somewhere.

My .22 is set up for shot count ,I get 80 ish shots at 28 ft lbs...I use that when I just want to shoot paper or red squirrel or chipmunk

My .25 is tuned for power at 55 ft lbs and still has a decent shot count of 48-50 I alternate it with my .25 wildcat for hunting....it hits with authority and is just as accurate,so impressed by this mid level gun

Siscakkid.. I really really like the Hydro Dip Decal you have on your .22 is that something you bought and put on yourself ? if you don’t mind I would like to take a photo copy of it for my file. I have a Wildcat Patriot and if I get another Kral in a bullpup I sure would like to get that Blue Scheme on it or something like it.

Those are both nice shooters you have.
