3 Weeks With the FX Wildcat MKIII Sniper .25 Accessories, Mods, Tune, & Accuracy

Hello AirgunNation Peoples,

If anyone has seen my threads/posts you’ll know that my airguns don’t remain in stock form for very long. So, this will not be a out-of-the-box factory tuned WC MKIII review, that is for someone else to do. There was a plan for this MKIII Sniper in .25 caliber before it landed on my doorstep. This post is to share about the tune, mods, accessories, and accuracy of my new WC MKIII in the first week of ownership. It went so quickly because most of the accessories I already had in my possession and also due to my prior experience in FXAirgun tuning. Here she is...

This is a tremendously awesome bullpup!!

Happy Air-gunning!!

Excellent! Thank you for posting! How's the range of adjustability with the hammer spring wheel? What's the spread in fps between level 7 and 1?

You're welcome! Luckily for you I still have my chronograph set up I’ll give you a exact answer! Below is a screenshot of my chronograph speeds shooting on and from power # 1 up to power # 7. Turning the HST dial up after each shot. The JSB 33.95 grain were used for this test. Remember, this is “NOT” a factory tune!?

Thank you JoeKool! I was looking for this info everywhere and couldn't find it. Looks like a killer set up! Great shootin'

Thanks for posting JoeKool — I got some ideas looking at your setup for sure. I just gotta ask about your tune though. Granted I have the 500mm barrel and haven’t touched the regulator or the hammer spring fine tune. I’m getting an average of 877 with JSB Kings at power level 7. Your average with a similar pellet (AA) at power level 5 is over 100 FPS faster. I’m not really looking for an elephant killer but - wow. How did you do that? Is it barrel length? Your regulator looks like its set lower than mine. I have the factory gauge and the needle is just left of 150.

So - how did you do that?

It is the combination of the DL plenum extension & the 700mm barrel.

And another question - exactly what models and where did you get the replacement regulator and fill pressure gauges. These are more granular than the OEM gauges - especially the regulator gauge. I saw similar (same) gauges on the Huma site but would rather order from the US due to shipping costs and time.

Thanks.

I think that plenum extension is allowing the power at 130bar.

I can barely get 50fpe at 130 bar power wheel 7 on mine. I got some higher by a few turns of the adjuster screw tho, but I'm far from a stable string at this point.

I'm like Joe, tho, with the jsb 34gr being the most accurate so far!

Nice report and mods, thank you Joe!

Thanks

Looking for my first PCP and the Wildcat MKIII is on my short list. I'm kind of a trigger snob, and my concern was the trigger weight and creep with the true bullpup design. Any thoughts or data to share on the trigger feel...vs the impact as well?

I adjusted the trigger to my liking, short first stage and a super super super crisp second stage. There is no problem with the MKIII’s trigger regarding it being a bullpup. Fx fixed that issue with the release of the MKII version. The MKIII’s trigger will be the last thing a owner will complain about. More likely, they may not be able to stop talking about how good it is...

Very good info. Thank you for posting!

Did you use carbon fiber wrap for the shroud/tank? Looks good

Yep

Oh that's a dreamline plenum extension? I might cannibalize my dreamline for that extra plenum then, I really wanted the WC to be my powerful long range gun, and was considering converting the DL to the compact 380mm barrel anyway...

Another awesome post Joe and gun.

The real winner winner chicken dinner is the Superior STX barrel! IMO, FX designed a liner that is truly good with pellets and slugs. I don’t know if a lot of people realize this...

I dropped a 600mm Superior STX liner in each my FX Crown and Wildcat MKII both in .25 and they are also lights out with pellets and slugs...

truth...

My MK3’s cocking lever and magazine are stuck. I just think I have a half loaded pellet. Has anyone seen a post on removing the barrel? I don’t want to screw something up. Help!

Remove the cheek rest, (two allen set screws) remove the single allen set screw on the top of the breech block, (smaller set screw toward the muzzle end) and then carefully pull/slide the barrel out.
