Ataman AP16 Defective out of the box

I purchased a Ataman AP16 from Pyramyd Air. I had the gun for just over a year before I finally got around to it. I was able to put 4000 psi into the gun and I couldn't get the lever to load the gun. Finally after working the lever back I was able to fire the gun but the safety fell out onto the floor. I did put the safety back in but I doubt that it will stay in place. Pyramyd air suggested I put the safety back in and do so with the ridges on the safety lining up with the ball detent. Pyramyd air advised that since the warranty was up I could send it back to them and at a minimum cost of $120.00 they could check it out. I will no doubt send it back to them but so much for quality control with this Russian Pistol. At the time of purchase I also got both barrels lengths and also two more tanks. Over $1400.00 only to have the safety fall out onto the floor. At least I wasn't outside which would have resulted in the safety being lost in the grass. Has anyone else had the safety drop out?

There is a grubscrew, ball and spring that engages the detentes in the safety. You can check it to be sure it's there and correct, but the ball may have fallen out with the safety.

If you dig into yourself and need measurements or pics or whatever give me a shout. It's a very easy pistol to work on. And a very good pistol in my experience. And I don't even like pistols lol

Fun fact, you can adjust the trigger for less creep with the safety removed.

...the safety on mine came out when I was trying to see why the trigger was still locked when I had pushed the safety off...

...apparently that is normal...the safety is not captive...

...I had pushed it too far in and it went past the detent and locked gun again...it is a poor design, IMHO...not safe, neither...it is easy to bump off...

...removing it is part of taking down the gun, I am told...but mine did not fall out when I fired the gun...that's fuked...

...I just dealt with it, as the AP16 is not exactly for combat...but do not trust the "safety"...the trigger, IMHO, suks ass too...

...I sent mine back when something got stuck and the gun degassed when you remove or install an air cylinder...

...that said, I liked it well enough to try another one, and eagerly await it's arrival...I hope the shipments are not delayed...

...but...anyone who paid $1000 for this gun has something wrong with them, IMHO...

...I wonder if a Chinese copy would be higher quality...???...

...I was going to buy the extra tank and barrel too...Lol...

Doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with it. Russian engineering is, well, very Russian. They just kinda do it their way. Give the pistol a chance and you may come to enjoy it.

Not using it for a full year after receiving it could have something to do with it being a little stiff. But, yeah, the safety kinda sucks. It does work, just be very gentle with it. As Hapo said, I wouldn't put any trust in the safety.

I wouldn't spend the $$ to send it back to Pyramid unless you continue to have issues with it.

Its TOTALLY NORMAL FOR ATAMAN SAFETIES to come out like that on other model rifles and pups too. When you run out of ammo you flick that safety out like taking the pin out of a grenade and throw it at your target.

Too bad on their design guys, but kinda (almost) funny.

My Ataman BP17 does exactly the same thing. Hey Ataman, no one else's safeties fall out..! I like the rifle, the safety is mostly useless.
