squirrels are bigger than this compact discovery scope I've used.

Check out discovery compact ffp scope it's 9ninches long and less than a lb. and even Veyron From vector optics both are on the similar scale and bang for buck list and more compact than anything else you can find on the market. Make sure they are the ffp versions. Plan for around a 200 budget with these ones.

While probably not on everyone's "Best Optics" list, I recently bought my first UTG scope. It's a Leapers UTG 3-12x44 AO Rifle Scope, EZ-TAP, Ill. Mil-Dot Reticle, 1/4 MOA, 30mm Tube, Weaver Rings. It is a compact scope, length wise. It has an etched glass reticle and the glass is very clear. It has the EZ-TAP 2 button system for a red or green light reticle, very nice against dark targets. Comes with 30mm weaver rings that are pretty good. So far I'd say it is comparable to my Hawke's.

Note to original poster: I actually bought it for a Benjamin Steel Eagle. On that rifle the picatinny rail starts too far forward on the receiver to be able to slide the scope backwards to get the proper eye relief. Being a compact scope you are not able to slide it front and back in the rings like a regular scope that has some tube length to accomplish that. Since I had a set of BKL 30mm dovetail rings, I ended up putting it on my R1 and really like it.

Oh yeah I forgot about that discovery. Any link?

Recently I was looking for a SHORT, LIGHT scope, under $500, that had 10y-side parallax, exposed turrets and a holdoff reticle.

In the end I had a scope specs table to compare them side by side:

Price

Warranty

Weight

Length

FFP or SFP!

IR

Mil or Moa, and if turrets matched the reticle or not

Max. elevation adjustment

FoV

Exit pupil

etc.

I'll attach the table below. There're about 40 scopes listed on 2 pages. 😊

Take a look at the UTG 4-16x44 OP3 Compact scope. It sells for around $230 and has pretty good clarity. This scope compliments my EdGun Leshiy really well. The only downside to the scope is the turret adjustments are not up to the rest of the scope quality. It’s not that the turret adjustments are bad, just not what I expected. Overall though the scope is very nice.

Forgot to mention, the scope has side wheel parallax adjustment and a lock ring on the ocular eye piece.

The utg maybe be nice but I dont think I'd go with a utg for a scope on this one.
