Today was our second Extreme American Field Target Event in as many months. The weather was perfect and the wind was unusually light. We had 15 shooters show up all were shooting pellets. Most shooters shot in our inaugural event last month. There were 2 new shooters Carl and Dennis. Experiencing Extreme American Field Target for their very first time. We had no slug shooters today.I would like to thank everyone for coming and shooting with us. The distance some of these shooters drove might be an indicator that this is a really fun venue. Bobby and Sandy Corcorran drove down from Camp Verde and Gabe Valenzuela drove from California, I think San Diego area. Thank you very much for your support. There were different ideas and thoughts being expressed in the meeting after the match. I think this is a great way to get changes that the MAJORITY wants. I stated in the meeting that anyone with ideas or grievances need to speak up. No grievances and some REAL good ideas. This is how IMO we will grow this venue. So please be vocal and help all of us grow the sport we love. My email is [email protected] I urge everyone to get involved. I started this because I love the sport and really want to see this particular venue grow. I would very much appreciate all those who have shot this venue to talk about it. Spread the word, pic, videos, and personal stories. I also want to reach out to those who are curious or eager to learn more about it. I am here with an ear. Sounds like it was as fun as the first one. I'm sad to have needed to be at work today. 

Congrats to the winners. Interesting to see that the rules of this new version of field target appear to really even the playing field. It appears that any month could be anybody s month to win. Just need a relatively powerful airgun and some dope data, and some skill of course. I honestly wouldn't be too surprised to see a good ole Marauder gen 1 in .25 win this thing as some point. I like that it seems to be shaking out to be less of an equipment race than sub 20fpe field target often turns out to be.

Van's a heck of a shooter but it looks like his daughter beat him with his own gun yesterday. I bet she had fun ribbing him about it. That's the kind of thing I was implying with my above comments, really is anybodies game.

No streamers or flags. No mirage either for the first part of the match and very little towards the end. Ben did a GREAT job again and you guys missed out. VERY nice day out and great course.

Seemed a little more difficult to me, but then.... look at the scores! Getting old I guess. Looks like flags are going to be deemed unnecessary .....

This sounds like a fun addition to our existing Field Target game. We've been adding a lot of higher power air rifles to our games up here in Ashland, Or. too. We are setting up an extreme FT & BR course at the ranch and at the Ashland Gun Club where we plan to do bench rest matches too. We have the Pear shaped area on the linked map for our air gun shooting. Are you using bell targets, swingers, resettable or long strings? any problems with scoring complaints?

We should set up a grand prix with rules we can all use and a website to keep the GP scores..

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the email and info on your program.

I'm answering here so we can include other clubs and competitors in the ideas on rule making and hosting matches for this new game.

From your photos/video, you are using knockdown targets with long strings. If we go that way we probably have to limit our distance to 75 yards and that distance would be really hard for clubs that don't have a perfectly flat surface with no obstructions to hang up the string. If the club has hills and valley's, then the string hanging over the valley, would keep the target from falling with the weight of the string hanging in the valley. This issue shows up with targets at 45 to 50 yards at AAFTA matches. Also, close regular AAFTA targets could not take hits from the 40-60fpe guns allowed to shoot.. (what would the fpe limit be??) I see you are using heavy duty targets, that can take the added fpe, but AAFTA clubs would have to invest in new targets... Assuming we are trying to enlist AAFTA clubs to the new game.

So, if investing in new targets. let's be open to new types as well.

Let's face it strings are a pain in the ass. Resettable and bell targets need no strings.... and can be left out on some courses that don't share their courses with other venues.

It fits into a pipe if you want to raise it's height to get above ground vegetation

The kill zones would be too small for 60+ yards, so bell targets or swingers might be good for the longer distances with 2- 3" kill zones... 

It would seem we need to make it easy for existing AAFTA clubs to join this new FT game... however that works out.

What ya think??
