Events Extreme FT, Phoenix, AZ, Saturday 27 Feb 2021

Shoot just gonna miss this! Heading down to Phoenix March 3-7 for a little family vacation with the wife and kid and in-laws would have been fun for me to come and watch while they do there own thing.

Darn, well it would have been fun to meet you and talk airguns!

I know would have loved that! Oh well. I'll definitely be making my way to AOA to checkout the store while I'm there.

Dairyboy, bring your benchrest air rifle with you because Sat Mar 6th is the SW Invitational match. You would have to sign up online before Mar 4th to compete. Otherwise maybe just swing by Rio Salado on the 6th to see what's going on!

 I crunched some #s for this upcoming Feb Extreme FT event.

Red is the hardest target

Green is the easiest

Blue will be the hardest if Ben and Mike decide to make the near target on "Fish in a Barrel" a 0.75inch kz instead of 0.5 inch.

EFT average values are assuming 0.5kz for that near "Fish in a Barrel" lane.



So, an overall EFT of 43.36, making this upcoming match potentially the hardest match yet. (No difficulty factor for wind has been added in any of the monthly EFT calculations as "windy" or not is just too subjective, with varying degrees of "windy" really making an accurate difficulty rating nearly impossible.)

Oct overall EFT was a 37.89 and the high score (record for all EFT events so far) was a 35/40 shot by Peykan B using pellets.

Nov overall EFT was a 39.9 and the high score was a 27/40 shot by Ben S using slugs (high pellet that month was a 26/40 by Bobby C).

Jan overall EFT was also just under 40 and high scores were both 22/40 by Bobby C using pellets and Mike B using slugs. 

Fun to note that the far target on the offhand reduced the average far target down to 79.8 yards and would have been about 84.5 yards without that one reducing the average. 

Also want to bring attention to the fact that 8 targets (worth 16 points since two shots per target) are greater than or equal to 75 yards. Leading up to and during the EBR 9.5 event here on the forum, it was noted by many talented shooters that 100 yards is orders of magnitude more difficult than 75 yards when shooting pellets and getting them to go where you want them to. 16 out of 40 possible points being on targets at or past that 75 yard threshold is a good indicator of why the scores are much lower than many (including the actual participants) think they should be. 

Even the "near" target average is only 8.8 yards closer than the max allowed distance (55 yards) in regular less than 20fpe field target. 

ALL of that gets us to the "EXTREME" nature of this event. 

If you like a challenge, you'll enjoy it. If you get mad when you shoot anything less than 100%.....you might want to avoid this competition. 

The forecast for this upcoming Sat has got to be better than some of the snow you guys are getting back east...

Sunny, with a high near 76. Light and variable wind becoming west southwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Phoenix Rod and Gun club is less than 30 minutes from Sky Harbor airport, pull a Ted Cruz and get you and your family out of the snow by buying some plane tickets and enjoying a nice sunny weekend. If you're concerned about traveling with a gun, you're welcome to share my Veteran with me, and I'm sure some of the other "regulars" would share too. Heck, drop by Airguns of Arizona and buy a new gun to compete with while you're at it. 

OUCH, that's going to be a painful day to the ole ego, doubly if the wind kicks up and it's the switchy kind!!! 

Who's the devious person that is trying this psyops experiment on us anyway, oh he's going to be hearing it fo sho  

It'll be fun seeing what happens to us all at 130Y!!!

EXTREMELY so, I'll hit plenty of steel, KZ's maybe not!

If I could just make out where on the steel I'm missing, that'd help, I can't tell anymore after 3-4 lanes when the targets get shot up!

When we'd shoot our long range centerfire steel matches we could see where we missed in the dirt, or often where we hit on the steel, so when we sent the 2nd shot off we'd often hit the steel. We had 10 seconds to fire off that 2nd round so the wind usually didn't change. There was also surveyors tape tied to bushes and the stands so we had a better idea what the wind was doing. This was 300Y to 1450Y and the match was informally classified as a Field Course match. The highest hit ratio at this match was 75%. High scores averaged 60%-ish. It was also a very hard match!

Regular FT we've seen 100% scores and often only a few misses on tougher 48 shot courses.

It's interesting/intriguing to me how different all these matches are! I can't help but love shooting all of them!

Good points Steve. I’m all for a few streamers out there... I’d like to come and have a Surely vs White Fang match up, but it’ll have to wait until March.
