Ok got your attention has any wittiness'd this before? Took off my shroud, haven’t since purchased rifle 1 month ago “750 pellets later” this is what I found! Serious lead build up on only about 1/3 of the circumference of the sleeve? I mean heavy... is this something anyone else has seen? Inside of shroud has a little build up more on one third also but not sure of orientation to the sleeve can only assume same? I also assume clipping as pellets are spiraling all over the place also has a Donny fl. Tore it apart with no apparent streaking or lead build-up will try with Donny only tomorrow will see what happens

Well here’s a theory, first let me ask if there should be a o-ring inside the shroud where threaded end of shroud seats against the barrel nut? What I think might be happening is lead dust is leaking past the flats of the barrel nut dispersing lead dust back onto the barrel sleeve? That would explain the lead on only 1/3 of barrel sleeve? But why is lead getting there in first place? Ya guy’s I’m stumped on this one, I looked at my RW and a little lead dust on barrel “evenly spaced around circumference” plus it’s a different style of shroud/diffuser.

IMO its just an excess amount of lead buildup within the shroud. Then when you remove the shroud it all gathers and smears because of the o-ring within the shroud. I've seen this happen just not to this extent. The good news is this is proof that the shroud with the air stripper is in fact working! The question is why so much lead? Clipping of shroud, clipping of silencer (LDC), extreme velocity disintegrating the pellet? Which projectiles & what's your velocity? If you're slinging soft lead pellets at a ridiculous velocity, then I would expect this buildup to be normal, and the simplest solution would be to reduce the velocity. Otherwise, here's what I would try:

  1. Clean outside of barrel & inside of shroud (including o-ring) & muzzle area (to help detect clipping)
  2. Reapply a tiny bit of silicone to help shroud glide onto barrel
  3. Reinstall shroud
  4. Shoot with shroud only (no Lead Dust Collector)
  5. Do you still have fliers?
  6. Remove shroud & inspect for buildup & clipping
You may also try just shooting it with LDC (without shroud)
    1. Clean inside of LDC especially muzzle area (to help detect clipping)
    2. Shoot with Lead Dust Collector only (no shroud)
    3. Do you still have fliers?
    4. Remove LDC & inspect for clipping
Curious if this isolates the problem, and what you find.

No the o-rings only go on the liner which is inside the barrel housing (some call it a sleeve). The shroud has an air stripper and is ported to redirect air back into the shroud (& on top of your barrel housing/sleeve).

No o ring on the thread but I had another thought that might explain the lead shaving at the erratic groupings.

is the mag, the pellet probe or the barrel transfer port shaving off lead as the pellet is loaded? The pellet leaves the barrel but the back pressure causes the shavings to accumulate over the barrel.

Try this... remove the buddy bottle, load a pellet into the mag, with the cocking leaves load it into the gun. Remove the barrel and with a cleaning rod puts the pellet back out of the breech and inspect for any damage.

If everything seem ok, push the pellet all the way through the barrel to see if there are any issues.

Thanks Michael, I’ll try those suggestions for longer periods of time isolating each variable, just so you know only shooting jsb 18.1 @ about 900fps, tried some hades @ about 960fps only about 50 pellets though! Thanks also Bb will try your’s as well, problem now is going out of town for the holiday so maybe a few days before all this can take place!
