Its time to show the world my 19 step Impact power wheel

I've been working on designing a replacement power wheel for the Fx Impact for over a year now. The concept came to me when I was tunning my gun shortly after installing the Power Plenum. As some of you may know the Power plenum tunning process is a little different then the earlier Impacts. As I tuned my gun I noticed a large standard deviation, like around 8-10 fps. This was some thing that I had not experienced before with my Impact. I had alwise had a SD of 3-4FPS. As I continued to fine tune the gun I noticed the hammer setting was a key element to getting the SD lower. Adjusting the fine adjustments of the Impact hammer is very tedious with the small set screw located in the breach and it's 1/8 turns.

I asked my why cant we have a finer adjustments on the power wheel? Well we can! And here it is, the 19 point adjustment power wheel for the Fx impact. With full 19 point detent adjustments. And I worked in some improvements to the wheel on top of the added adjustablilty.

1st The wheel still has the same ability to adjust from what was the Max to the Min with now 17 setting in the middle. It doesn't have the 1-5 and a-e setting any longer to confuse you with.

2nd The wheel uses a button head bolt with self lubricanted nylon washer under the mounting bolt. Replacing the 90 degrees counter sunk bolt. The CC bolts are designed for locking property's, not retaining knobs. By changing this it allows for the owner to adjust the how tight they want the fill when turning it. And preventing the screw from walking out when the knob is turned counter clock wise. Providing a clean smooth turn.

3rd I've increase the knob size allowing for easier adjustment. And changing the shape to a dodecagon (12 sided polygon) making easer to turn and fill the fine adjustments. And allowing for adjustment with your thumb while shooting.

4th Improving the type of material the knob is made out of. The OEM knob is made out some type of aluminum, I'm guessing 5052 or maybe 6061. This is all very good material for many different applications, but in this use the set screw pushes a dimple into the cam of the knob causing the hammer slowly change. With the Fx large jump of the knob, there is no problem. With a fine adjustment knob this would be real problem becouse the dimple would rise the lower and over build the higher making the knob useless. Also I didn't want to have to the chance of the set screw not seating into its dimple if moved away and returned to its original setting. I'm building the new knob out of a 304 stainless steel. Stainless steel offers a much higher thresh hold from dimpling. In testing I'm see no dimpling.

5th With added adjustment the new wheel allows for each setting to make about 3-8 FPS difference. (The amount fps will change with the set point of your regulator) I personal have a sweet spot, i like to have my gun FPS at it sweet spot when shooting from the bench. With the fine adjustments it allows me to make quick changes at the bench with temperatures change from round to round. Keeping me in the sweet spot.

Here the difference

Really cool design. I love all of the advancements, upgrades and modifications that have come from people using the Impact. I know there are a lot of FX haters out there but I sure love mine. I don’t ever see myself being without one...So much to love! Must be like your new “baby” having this thing finally come to fruition after a year! Congrats!

This could be the next chapter in, "FX vs the Old Farts"! First, I appreciate your enthusiasm and initiative in design, it's wonderful from that perspective. For folks like me who tune their rifle and then don't touch it, this is ludicrous. But again, in a good way. If you routinely need 19 increments of power settings, this may be the perfect mod. I'm kind of scratching my butt as I sip my bourbon and wondering about it. And the fact that it's beyond my understanding, is a big plus!

What are we looking at price wise? Sounds like a winner with the additional micro adjustments,

I'm expecting the msrp to be $49.99, but for a beta first buy price it's going to $35 shipped

This won't fit a Crown will it? Didn't think so. Sure could use on, I hate the aluminum dimples!

The Crown is different, if the Impact power works out I would love to design the same thing for the crown.

For Impact only? I have a WC mk3 with 7-detent wheel at the rear.

The area on the Wildcat is much smaller, I don't think there's enough room to add any more adjustment. But, I'll keep the Wildcat on my radar.
