Changes on Jsb: monsters redesigned .22 and 18.2 and 15.9gn pellets

It's not just only the .22RD also 18.13grain got that same issue. 2 18grain pellets from different batches.......not even speaking of the mold marking.

Yep, I have 2 distinct 18gr in my inventory. They shoot different, but both accurate, as long as I keep them sorted. They are mostly one type.

I bought a .25 dreamline, and some kings, and they suffer the same fate. These are about 50/50 on the several tins I have. One of them is a waste of time to shoot, the other is fairly accurate.

So far the king heavy mkII have been consistent.

Exactly! hate that! talk a few months ago about the same with the 15.9gn too mmm, now those are inaccurate in my barrels!

In one of my barrels the deep base works better than the shallow one, the shallow is still accurate, but not as much as the deep one

Little help with the pics

I wouldn’t think those two are the same weight? That’s frustrating!

edosan Good eye ! just checked two 25's on my desks that I pushed thru my barrel with a wood dowel the other day. One was regular JSB other branded Edgun they are different . Have you seen much changes to POI say longer distance like 40 going to 80 yds. ? The other day my pellets were cork screwing at about 3/4 's to the target at 80 yds.Guess we can add the 25's to the list- crap .

This will be no consolation but I’ve noticed JSB tinkers with geometry over time. I don’t know to what extent they do so with the external profile but just looking at the skirts of pellets purchased at different times, the differences are obvious. These differences sometimes get conflated with comparisons between JSB and the Air Arms-branded equivalents but they seem to be just as prevalent within either brand.

The first time you notice it, it’s very tempting to attribute any difference in average group size to “this style good” and “that style bad”. But I’ve looked at it over time and some batches of shallow thin skirts do better than some batches of deep thick skirts in a given rifle, but with other batches the preference sometimes flips.

There’s apparently something more subtle that separates the good from the bad.

Along those lines, I’ve come to accept the same is true of head size. I used to agonize over 5.50mm vs 5.52mm, thinking there was some magic size that my barrel preferred and then I noticed I had some measuring 5.48mm that grouped as well as another batch measuring 5.52mm. That was disappointing. I didn’t want to believe it. I mean, it’s the one distinguishing thing we have that we can order by and now I learn it’s not nearly as useful as I thought. So I’m not saying all this to be a contrarian. It pleases me none but it’s a reality we have to deal with in this sport. Bottom line, if we want to enjoy the finest precision possible, I think the best strategy is to sample as many different production batches as possible. Then when we find a magical one, buy as many as we can justify.

My first experience with this was about six months ago. I shoot a lot of the JSB RS in .22( 13.43 gr). I had about 20 left in a tin and dumped them into the next full tin.

Went out to shoot some pdogs and noticed this while loading a mag. Went home and looked at the tins to make sure I hadnt mixed up weights, nope, both marked 13.43. I even weighed a couple of each skirt profile and they were both about 13.43.

As far as shooting more or less accurate? Slightly different point of impact but can't really say one shot more or less accurately than the other.
