Long Range with a Daystate RedWolf HP and NSA Sugs 20.2 .217

Someone told me once: Edosan, the RW do not shoot slugs well, or do great at long distance. Well...need to check that.

Mid Power, NSA Slug .217 20.2gn @ 950fps, scope Vortex Golden Eagle 60x, mounts NCstar adjustable. (over 200m need to adjust mounts)

224 meters and 305 meters!

and to my surprise 305 meters. (target size 25cm), wind L to R about 20mph , really hard to see those suckers! jaja

All this was just to see and stretch the limits on a very light slug, next: 305m on .30 cal and my last test will be 500 YARDS! . For hunting (and just my opinion) over 200m, not worth the shot with an airgun (to far for me), but for plinking and target shooting, is fun to see the limits.

Bonus pic I made with my Buddy AUKAN, A Chilean Eagle (and my Friend Monchis add some effects, but no photoshop mount) jaja just love it:

Nice shooting. That looks like MOA shooting at 224 meters. Great shooting!

I just got my .22 Blue Wolf this week as my EBR win prize, decided not to wait on the Delta since I want to compete with RD Monsters in 2020. IMHO the RD Monsters have a technical advantage over other pellets like the .25 JSB Heavy and .30 JSB 44.75. It’s set to shoot RD Monsters on Medium Power level at 995 FPS. Based on your recommendation (Edosan) I put a Vortex Golden Eagle on Bleu, the Big Cheese. My first 3 groups 5 shots each at 100 yards with RD Monsters on EBR Target. Learning gun over next couple of weeks. NSA 20.2 gr. shoot 1050 FPS on medium but haven’t shot them yet... Thanks much to Daystate for making a great gun, AoA for providing it (thanks Rob) and Bobby Corcorran for taking the time to tune the gun (thanks Bobby) . ;)

Gorgeous looking rifles. I’m looking at picking up a redwolf myself but I’m trying to figure out how to mount the bipod Picatinny rail to the stock without screwing it up. I just read some earlier posts where people were saying that the wood was thin by the bottle. Do any of you have pictures of your pic rail mounting? Some close-ups would be awesome.

Thanks a ton!

I'm using a Saber Tactical bottle clamp on mine. I didn't want to mess up the wood and it's better to have the bipod further out.

Check out Tomcat Airguns on YouTube; Tom has a DIY video on how he did his. He is also a member here on AGN.

You could also PM him, but he just might chime in.

Edosan,

Spectacular shooting! I have not ventured farther than 100 yards shooting paper targets yet, and some day I will go next door to the 100/200/300/400 yard range and try some steel and/or paper. However, it's inconceivable to me what folks are doing with Long Distance (LD) shooting and air guns!

I have recently purchased a RW Safari in .25 HP from AoA. I had them put on the PIC rail as I had same concerns if I did it; and didn't want to screw it up.

Mike (CC) - Also, great shooting for the first outing on your new Blue Laminate RW .22 ! That's great shooting for any 'number' of outings to me! Funny, my RAW .22 HP HM1000x shot the JSB RD pellets very well too at 100 yards, so I take your point on those RD pellets.

Back to the Safari .25 - I am going to try the NSA slugs, but so far I have shot the JSB 25 g ( 900 FPS @ medium power, see below ) and the 33G JSB MK ll. Honestly, this is the only sub MOA score or group I have ever shot at 100 yards; and have been out three times now with the Safari and normally shoot between 2-3" CTC average at 100 yards with those pellets. So, this is a 'cherry pick' group and not indicative of what I normally shoot so far with this new gun. I have authored some other posts that show typical score shooting at 100 yards, and wish I could repeat this again some day.

Thanks my friends!

@centercut very very nice, I had a hard mind battle for the colour! for sure midnight is great as well as your shooting! no Hijacking, keep them coming! How do you like the scope so far?! yeah with all this Covid19 the Delta might take a while :(

@tibor, love the electronics!, but love mechanical too! just love airguns in general ! ;) (like Cars, I love Sport Cars and I love Pickups too!) I made a review on the RW few weeks ago (or month? ...) anyway here it is: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/daystate-redwolf-hp-22-cal-review-and-thoughts

Regarding the bird, just to clarify, is not a Buteus (but sometimes is called Buteus Melanoleucus), it is a Geranoaetus melanoleucus, Chilean Eagle or Black-chested buzzard-eagle juvenile, they tend to look like a Harris Hawke, but when they get about 4-5 years they change to the definitely feathers. The one in the pic is a male that weighs about 1.6 kilos, this one is a female, 3 Kilos (about 6 lb) is a beast!

Hi, Centercut good choice on the blue IMO, I am really looking forward to your explanation of the "technical" advantage of the .22RD MONSTERS over .25 & .30, are you going to share it with us at some point?

Yes, I’ll explain in more detail on the post I do soon about the .22 Bleu Wolf. In summary it has to do with the superior BC, and also the speed they can be shot at without losing accuracy and precision compared to .25 Heavy or .30 Exact. Unlike any other pellet I’ve shot, these RD Monsters like to go fast, much faster than the 850 to 920 FPS we use (from experience) for other diabolo shaped pellets. More to follow... ;)
