Puncher breaker vs. gauntlet vs.Avenger

Gauntlet is 229 @ pyramid ... hard to argue with that

OK, let's argue.

G - over 8 lbs. A - 6 lbs

G - reg not easily adjusted. A - screwdriver adjustment of reg setting

G - reg won't go 3k psi. .A - easily adjust reg up to 3k psi

G - no picatinny top rail. A - dual top rail

G - not easy to add bipod. A - pic rail for bipod

G - hammer spring needs mod to easily adjust

A - easily adjust hammer spring right out of box

G - bolt cocking. A - side lever cocking

G - comes with one mag. A - comes with 2 mags

Am I forgetting anything besides the $70 difference in price?

I own 2 Gauntlets(.22&.25) & a .25 Avenger & agree with 30Harry on the pro's & cons. The Gauntlets are great for tinkering but require add-ons to reach their potential. My Avenger was set to go out of the box other than dropping the reg(easy to do) to a reasonable 1900 output. The only downside I can think of is the lack of adjustment to the trigger(there is some but figure once more are out that someone will come up with a fix) But accuracy for an un-crowned barrel is excellent. This was a 5 shot group @ 102 yds & has been repeated over & over.

I have a Gauntlet. After a lot of tinkering I finally got the gun shooting very well. I had to address the POI change with a slight bump of the barrel and added some JSAR mods to the regulator and hammer.

The Gauntlet was the first cheap regulated kid on the block. In its time it was a game changer for sure. Airguns have come a very long way in the last 5 years or so. Now the Gauntlet is getting long in the tooth.

A friend got an Avenger and it is a fantastic upgrade to the Gauntlet. I helped him set it up and was very impressed with it. It picked up on all the features the Gauntlet was missing.

The Avenger will make its mark and I bet in a short time, something will come along that will make a Gauntlet out of it.

The Avenger is probably going to be accurate but I bet it's gonna leak worse than an FX.

YEAH right... NOT ! ... I have the .25 at 50 yards its a hole threw hole with jsb 25.39 , around 600 shots so far 1 month ,and NO LEAKS ! I have not heard of or seen any leaks on any of the Avenger owners over at GTA that I know of , so its a bit pre mature to start saying this gun has leak issues ... I have 20 years in shooting pcp's owning a large list of them ...

It's been confirmed it uses the same valve stem and seal as the nova liberty which is made in the same factory and known to leak over time. It uses the same soft sealing material as the co2 Beeman QB78/QB79 family. Over time with higher pressure it continues to collapse until the metal sleeve over it makes contact with the valve body preventing it from sealing. I've replaced several for people who own the Nova guns and know several others who have had to fix the same issue. It would by no means prevent me from buying one but just a heads up to everyone. It will happen faster on the guns running higher reg pressures. All guns have their weak points. I make my living fixing those issues and have worked on dozens of different MFG products. It's not limited to just budget guns.
