Raptor groups from today

Full size Raptor in .20 in case you haven't seen my other threads.

I wanted to bump the power a bit and messed up the hammer tension/striker length balance. I also don't think that I initially had the barrel snugged up to the thimble quite tightly enough. Those two problems were giving me fits today, and I had some consistency problems. Once Travis helped me resolve them, these were the last groups of the day.

55 yards. JSB 15.89 @ 890-915fps.

Raptor groups on right, Veteran Shorty in .22 groups on left.

Really hoping that kind of accuracy continues with further testing.

I also shot this earlier in the day, in the midst of the tuning and barrel placement problems I gave myself.

Again, 55 yards, top row not so impressive but bottom two rows are one shot per bull.

10 shot groups man, you're maybe used to seeing 3 or 5 shot groups. As the number of shots in a group goes up, group size usually does too, higher number of shots in a group suggests consistent accuracy, not just a fluke couple of good shots thrown together. Ten under a penny at 55 ain't bad. 1/2 inch at 50 is moa, penny is 0.75inches. I'm at 55 so I'd need 0.55 inch groups to be moa-not too far from that. Also straight from the tin (not weighed or sorted), shooting outside, where the wind blows.

Yes, I'd like it to be better, but these are the kind of groups that I can work with.

Edit-just had to measure:

Center to center...

My two main airgun uses are pest removal and field target. These groups are squirrel/pdog brain sized, Euro dove head sized, and will knock down any legally set field target at 55 yards.

Yes, LW barrel. Polished it a fair amount with JB Bore paste, although may not hurt to use more.

With what Travis shot during testing, and what I have shot, should have right around 3, 500ct tins through it.

Barrel is quite consistent, or at least feels like it is when a pellet is pushed through. It's tighter than I'm used to through the whole length, with a pretty tight choke. There aren't any grabby or loose places through the barrel though, which I feel is a good thing.

I've had a few LW barrel rifles. They like to lead up at the choke and throw the occasional flyer. Especially when pushed in the 900's. But once scrubbed so absolutely clean, (I use a bronze brush) then properly polished. (100 strokes with a jag and tight patches) They held really good groups with minimal cleaning after. I even top the polish off with a couple of coats of Johnson's paste wax.

No disrespect, i watched your cleaning vid. If thats how your doing it, your not really accomplishing a whole lot. Get the right tools for the job and your efforts will be rewarded.

The main thing is to make sure the barrel is spotless before polishing or else your burnishing over lead. You'd be surprised what a bronze brush will pull from the grooves in a tight choke. I swore i had one clean until i run the bronze brush through. Now, i just start with one. Here's a good read on polishing techniques. First thing I'll be doing when my Mini arrives.

Yep nice groups! Raptor seems really solid platform! That is the damn reason why ppl are so delusional about performance of certain brands. Too many ppl shooting 3shot groups and even worse picking them what to show as showoff groups. Even if the shooter dose his part and environmental factors are zero 3shot groups usually only cover 30% of the area of 10shot groups and if u pick them its even smaller than that. If national rifleteams dont approve 3shot groups and they are considered as showoff and joke in PB world why should we as airgunners take them any more serious? Who would buy a house if you would be able to only see 30% of it. I bet no one.

Keep shooting buddy and gratz for your raptor im really jelly.

Looking good Sir!

My Mini will be here Thursday. according to FedEx. Not that I have ever believed FedEx. GRRRR!

I bought Travis's personal Prototype Mini, (this was arranged long ago), and has the added bonus of the JSAR in house hand made Regulator prototype. Stoked to say the least! It is the gun you have seen in the videos. It seems to be a virtual laser!

It shipped with both .22 and .25 Tj's barrel kits. Woo-Hoo!!!

I will of course be posting results wit both pellets and slugs.

Wife has surgery Tuesday, so It may be slower than I would like, but they will get posted. ;<)

Frank,

Nice groups and not cherry picked to show only the best/luckiest! More telling to me is the BR single shot portion of the Target, at 55yds that is PDG in my book. Once you get the Adjustable reg. ( The standard Ninja reg. is not applicable to accurate shooting IMHO ) and a bit more experience with the tuning as it's not as simple as HST and Reg adjustments, I've no doubt those groups will shrink to perhaps .25-.375 CTC, BUT NOT every time everyday, too many variables.

Looking forward to your continued work on this platform, once sorted I believe it will be a pleasure to shoot.

Jiiku-agree completely about number of shots in a group. This gun can shoot unbelievable 3 and sometimes even five shot groups at 55 yards, but it can't do it consistently for a full ten shots. I care more about the CONSISTENT ability of the gun to be accurate. I'll even take a little less accuracy if it'll shoot pretty good on a regular, dependable basis.

Knife-I've been following your slug shooter. Excited for you to get it and even more excited to see your results.

Joe-thanks for the compliment on the groups. Full disclosure though-these shots are some of the best the gun did yesterday. I only got all my seemingly self induced problems resolved right before I ran out of time to shoot. I'm off work again tomorrow so hoping to see if it'll shoot good without tinkering for a longer session.

Frank those are pretty impressive ten shot groups. Some folks don't understand how hard it is to keep a tight ten shot group as compared to a five shot group.

I shot these five consecutive ten shot groups some years back with my Thomas in .177 at 50 yds and had a couple of crazy flyers. I didn't see any flyers in your groups? Looks damn good to me!

Yep, fyler's gonna happen, that's pellets.

Not much experience but even when I weigh and sort by head diameter I get flyers here and there, just not as many??? Then if there's wind all bet's are off.

I'll be watching to see if or how much better groups get as the tune and time goes by, fun to observe from the sidelines!

Anybody know what the BC of these 20 cal pellets is?

Anybody know what the BC of these 20 cal pellets is?

Hey Steve. I asked about .20 BC months ago and Motorhead had this to say:

Try .033. My Az rapid mk ll love them @ 900 fps. One hold @ 50 yds. Sub 1 moa @ 100 with no wind.

"Maybe higher than that ?

I compete with .20 cal JSB 13.73's at @ 795 fps and use a BC from .040 to .044 to get the chairgun numbers to match actual ballistics.

The Default BC for them is .033 & having more weight with 15.9's and the same frontal area should be IMO MUCH better than that."

Groups on this post were all with the 15.89 going around 900fps.

Oh, when you say compete, are you meaning your USFT is 20 cal? I always assumed it was 17 cal.
