Smooth Twist X Barrels

I have read this is possible yes.

Prototypes are out there. I've seen Matt Dubber was given the opportunity to try one on his Impact. Now, that gives no clue as to a timeline. So, it could be a long wait since the Crown is most likely priority #1. 

I already called AOA and put my name down on a list for a smooth twist X barrel. I don't know if they'll actually make one though, but I hope.

I asked AOA about it, and they figure it's just a matter of time. We already know they can put it on the Impact, and there's no downside really. Most people either want a conventional type rifle, or bull pup, so I don't see where the Crown and Impact will really compete with each other

I haven't seen the crown in person but maybe someone who has could to tell us is there actually any difference in the barrels? 
Ive tried hard by looking at the videos to see any difference and there can't be much in it. 
May have a new way to hold the barrel in place. 
Maybe they will be interchangeable or easily adapted?

I ordered (waiting list) the new Crown for my next gun. I held off on the Impact on the thoughts of a future barrel change system. It would be nice if the barrel liners were $99 dollars as indicated for the crown. It seems that the Impact barrels are hard to get. Is this just demand still?????? Or is it that they are moving production to the Smooth X for future swaps? No idea about pellet probe pricing for caliber changes.

I would really like to know which models if any additional, that these will retroactively fit. I really want to purchase the crown when it comes out, but if the new barrels will fit other models, that would certainly influence my decision.

This does not look like the barrel on the impact. There are no holes drilled through the barrel on the Impact that look like that. That almost looks like the transfer port, and that isn't present on the Impact so it will have to be something slightly different. That is unless someone would be capable of replacing the brass piece, which might be easier than it sounds.

I presumed that was the transfer port. I doubt the diameter of the barrel is different so 14mm. 
The notch that aligns the port doesn't seem to be there or the shallow hole on the side for the fixing bolt. 
There could be other differences of course but to me they look similar.

The brass thimble does apparently screw out although I've never done that. But like your thinking it might be easier than getting the notch machined in. Maybe they will swap impact barrel into crown as I can't think why the alignment notch or shallow retaining bolt hole would be a problem being there on the crown. Depends how they align and fix the barrel on the crown I suppose. Guest guessing. Time will telll.
