XFT PHX Grand Prix is happening! 

Extremely excited to announce the first of the National Grand Prix Extreme Field Target circuit will be held in Phoenix, where it all began.

Phoenix XFT started as an experiment....take Robert Buchanan's creation, the Extreme Field Target portion of the yearly EBR and make it into a monthly event. Would there be enough interest? Would enough competitors show up to make the effort worth it? The results have been a resounding YES!!! XFT in Phoenix has garnered unprecedented interest in the airgun industy. Soon after initiation here in Arizona, the industry saw additional Extreme Field Target events start up in Texas and then Oregon. Word on the street is that a club in Oklahoma will soon be hosting their first match. People LOVE Xtreme Field Target! And now you have a chance to earn points on the GP circuit to go towards being recognized as the National Extreme Field Target 2022 champion at the awards ceremony that culminates the EBR weekend in October. (Perhaps someone involved at the Match Director level can jump in with the details about the circuits point system as I have not been involved in those discussions.)

Two day match, March 26 and 27 at the Phoenix Rod and Gun Club (same location you read about in the monthly PHX XFT matches, like this past weekend's match, here: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/xtreme-field-target-feb-2022-match-report/?referrer=1). 

48 shots on Sat, 48 shots on Sun. 

Match Director and staff are getting a sign up sheet made, as well as other logistical details worked out. That will all be shared in the very near future.

I wanted to kick off this discussion with the big news from Tom Costan of American Air Arms......He has donated an EVOL Paradigm in .30 to the shooter who clears the course with pellets on either Sat or Sun. "Clear the course" means a 48/48. If more than one shooter does it in the same day, or if we have a shooter shoot a 48/48 on Sat and a different shooter do the same on Sunday........SHOOT OFF to determine the winner of the Paradigm. 

This is the newest variation of the tried and true EVOL action in a beautiful Steve Corcoran custom thumbhole stock. The absolute pinnacle of airgun performance and beauty. The very first specimen of this latest EVOL configuration was auctioned at last years EBR and went for an astonishing sum, a true example of "you get what you pay for." But in this case, you're not paying for it, just outshooting the competition!

The GP series specifics are still being worked out, but it goes something like this.

There will be points given out for each GP event, so far for 2022 there are FOUR planned. AZ, OR, TX, and UT.

The MD for each event will decide how to distribute those points, at this time SIX per event. It could be 1st -3, 2nd -2, 3rd - 1, or with any variation of 6 total.

There will be points or fractions of points given to each shooter that participates in each event. At this time ONE point for the shooter's first event and 1/2 point for each subsequent event.

There will be a MAXIMUM number of points per shooter than can be earned during the 2022 season to carry into EBR EFT. This includes points won plus participation points, at this time SIX total.

That number of points will be added to the EBR EFT score in October to crown the first National EFT Champion. This is in addition to the usual prizes given at EBR for the two EFT classes. You must shoot in at least ONE GP event to compete for the National Championship. 

The participation points and maximum possible points that can be earned are still being hammered out in discussions but should be released this weekend..

Ha! Well, if it can't be me, at least a Team Centercut shooter!!! We'll have six there at the March GP event, including me, you, Tony, Barb, Steve and Gabe. We have won the last three events, one more can't hurt!

Prize money announcement!!!

Airguns of Arizona has graciously donated the following prize money:

  • Pellet Class 
    • 1st-$500
    • 2nd-$250
    • 3rd-$125
    • 4th-$75
    • 5th-$25
  • Slug Class
    • 1st-$250
    • 2nd-$125
    • 3rd-$75

Remember, AZ XFT prize rules specify that you must beat someone to be eligible for the prize (example: only 3 competitors shooting slugs, only the first and second get the prize money).

First, register at practiscore 1st, this is key. You won't be prompted to pay at Practiscore for the Grand Prix like we typically do for the monthly matches. 

If this is your first event, you may need to create a free Practiscore account.

NOTE: Once you REGISTER for the Grand Prix in Practiscore, you will be sent an email. There is a link in that email confirmation that direct you to azxft.com site to pay via paypal or cc.

You have 48 hrs to pay the match fee or your slot goes back into inventory.

Limited entry slots so make sure you go through all the steps if you've got your heart set on shooting.

If online registration does not fill up, cash will be accepted by walk-ups the morning of the match (please don't count on slots being available though). 

The match fees cover a hat, participating in shooting the match, and a lunch on Sunday. Please make a selection for the meat you'd prefer on your sandwich at the same time you pay the fee through the AZXFT website (link will be included in the confirmation email from Practiscore). 

This is a new website and first time ever XFT Grand Prix event. We're learning as we go here so be understanding as we go through some growing pains.

Since this will be the AZ XFT GP event, points will be awarded towards the EFT National Championship finals at the EBR EFT. The MD will publish points to be awarded, with no more than SIX total for the event. The MD is NOT tasked with determining a shooters’ eligibility to compete in the EFT GP series. Also, everyone that shoots will be given ONE point for their first GP event. I assume since EBR EFT is a pellet only event, that the Slug Class will not earn any points toward the GP series. 

Each subsequent event that a shooter participates in will get them 1/2 point. If one participated in all four this year it would get them 2 1/2 points, plus what they earned by top finishes. However, no matter how many points are earned, the maximum that can be carried forward to the EFT at EBR is SIX points.

So far, the events are the first one in AZ, then OR the end of April, TX first week of June, and UT in mid August.

Shooter's stats and points earned will be posted on the AoA web site, and also posted here on AGN.

Id bet it was 10 or 12 mph most of the places I was at in PHX, and THAT is a gentle, soothing shift of air compared to what I'm used to. Up at elevation I'm used to wind stripping hats off of heads and ripping car doors out of hands. We learn to park into the wind so the door does t get flung off it's hinges when we open them. I'm fact, wife's car got it's worst ding about 2 weeks ago from person next to her in the parking lot not hanging on to their door.
