Springtime - and the starlings and squirrels are back

If you need power levels that low you won’t be doing much more than injuring them and will need multiple shots. Honestly I would do something different. If you want/need to use an air rifle then get a strong .177, .22 or .25. One shot one kill as they say in another line of work. Practice, make sure of your distances and practice some more. Just my opinion but if you can’t control pests with a single shot safely and effectively then you shoudn’t be shooting at them. If you have the knowledge and skills then get to work. Then again, I’m an old tired ba$tard.

What springer did you shoot today?

HW95L .22 & about 50 shots at 25 yards, all seemed to be 1.5" to 2" groups from a table w/bags. Had to let the tree rats walk because of neighbors/wife.
Yours is the most recognized rifle on this form in my opinion. Crow

N/A  Diana Chaser/Artemis CP2 Comparisons

marflow777--- Well, I will have my own "first hand" inspection of the Artemis CP2 trigger in a few days. Backstory-- Earlier today, I was showing my kid brother the Diana Chaser pistol/rifle kit I recently purchased, and had him try it out with the pistol barrel and moderator installed. He liked it a LOT! He was having SO much fun with it shooting at empty beer cans I could hardly pry it back out of his hands! "WE" decided he really needed one of his own, so I was on the Krale website this evening ordering him his very own ArtemisCP2. Then I thought to myself, SELF, why not get another for yourself as well? My thought was to leave my existing Chaser set up as a pistol w/moderator, and the Artemis CP2 setup as a rifle w/moderator. How cool is THAT? Well, VERY COOL of course:cool::cool:!! Total cost for both CP2's including shipping to the states, is a little over $262, as you get a slight discount on shipping costs over purchasing just one unit . So, about $131 per each CP2. That's pretty darn good, that is less than a Chaser kit, AND the moderator is "loose packed" (can swap/install easily on either barrel, NO red loctite to deal with) AND you get TWO magazines included with each CP2. (NONE are included w/the Diana Chaser) Now, that's what I call a SWEET deal! Should have them both in hand early next week, I'll report back then. Of course, I will have to try them BOTH out to make sure they are shooting properly you see....:);):).

Tuning  De-Tuning my new Beeman AR2078B .177

Treefrog, do you happen to have any links for the orings and reduced transfer port seals that you use in your QBs? Thanks,
Kenny

Hey Kenny,

The o-rings are size #113. You can find them at just about any good hardware supply place.

I made the transfer port seal from the plastic of an unused toilet lid. (Us welders do tend to keep scrap piles.) I drilled out the nipple end of a used co2 cartridge with a 1/4" bit and used it as a punch (in a vise) to make a slug, then drilled the inside of that out to what I wanted. Pics attached. You need one about .243" wide and .120" thick. Mine was a bit tall and I had to file it down some.

4.5 mm ca JSB Diabolo Exact Beast minimum speed with Snowpeak P35

Hi guys,

Thanks so much for the advice. Wadcutter is definitely a good idea.

I want to use the 16 gr because my shot placement isn't good. Lighter pellets with low velocity will produce low FPE, when I (often) hit non-vital parts, they took off, only to be found days later because of the smell of rotting carcasses. They could be in the attics or somewhere hard to reach.

My thinking is that with a 16-gr pellet and low velocity, I can still achieve a high FPE. If I miss, the pellet will not ricochet much or travel a long distance, which is important—I'm ratting in an urban area. If it hits non-vital parts of the rat, a heavy pellet at low velocity will get stuck inside the rat, and hopefully, it will die instantly or just a couple of meters away.

20 metres is about the farthest shot; normally, it's about 10 metres.

What do you think about the idea?

AEA  AEA HP SS .25 Blowback Action in 960 FPS Slow Motion

so they update HP to SF.
You say need use correct pressure so SF adding regulator make the pressure not change.
You say use poppet valve. SF use new one.
You say need better magazines they have better CNC magazines.

Then you said AEA know it but do nothing?
That is a different model !
What happens with all the HP SS owners..?

Also, where can you find CNC magazines for the HP SF?

Umarex Primal 20 gauge air shotgun

at 4+bucks per shot have a good time
All of the math, adding the costs of wads, pure tungsten shot, and caps does it come out to quite that expensive. I am seeing just over two bucks per shot if shooting tungsten shot. It's rather inexpensive shooting lead shot from Roto Metals in bulk.

FWB  FWB 300 .....anyone else have one?

And since we have swerved into discussing mini sniping rigs

Started as a 300SL club rifle that was purchased for 125ish USD.
Total rebuild using a Macarri Arctic spring in addition to all new FWB internal bits, loves 10.3 JSBs, and is a chipmunk murder machine.
Nice! I like the old club guns.
Here's one of my favorite chipmunk snipers. The stock was painted flat black when I got it.

Crosman  Crosman 1322 getting 12 FPE @ 15 pumps.

I’ve spent way too much time and effort trying to get my great friends 13XX guns to be hot rods. They are great for what they were designed to be, adding stress to one is a walk of rapidly dimensionally returns. An after market tube, pump lever, valve retaining system would fix the issues . But why on a $50 gun???
They are cheap to experiment with, but life span is short when pushed to the limits.
That's why I went pcp and never looked back. Mods actually give you big gains usually. They're also more robust and don't just wear out.

The 13xx has the allure and potential to be a survival gun for getting food. I think alot of people believe them to be a good bugout option over a big bulky springer or a pcp that needs an air source. Let's be real though, if SHTF, I'm not grabbing my air guns lol.

Crossbow can get bigger game, small game, and 2 legged predators as well. Can also cobble up some bolts in the wild that would work for short range if need be.

All that wouldn't be an issue until the 1000s of rounds of powder ammo ran out or I get tired of carrying it all and toss it lol.

Air Arms  How well can a light knock down PCP shoot

50 yards , bit less wind , she is absolutely good to hunt anything i would at 50 yards .

Cant wait to try 75

Wide shots out of bull was me finding correct dot to hold on

Turns out , zero at 25 yds , hold is only 1 dot on my moa scope FFP , no need to remeber turret settings , wonder how much drop going to 75 ? These HP's must be a flying to only drop that little at 50 yards . Not ever having fired a bb gun to 50 yards before , i figured it would drop like 4 or 5 inchs .

This aint my childhood days BB gun is it!!

Other  .30 or .356 Cal?

The difference among killing power of a .25 vs a .30 and a .367 cals Airgun rifle are huge in terms of "Hunting Energy Units" (HEU's)

A .25 Cal at 60 fpe gives 580 HEU's

A .30 Cal at 90 fpe gives 1070 HEU's

A .357 Cal at 132 fpe gives 1900 HEU's

HEU's include damage in tissue. Fpe is just a meassure of energy.

But when hunting with air rifles shot placement is the name of the game and the difference among having a clean kill or just hurt an animal.
Good points. Have never heard of HEU's. I cull elk for the state and am a big believer in an accurate rifle more than a powerful one, shooting 35 elk in the past 6 years, mostly with a 110 gr 6.8 SPC Barnes TTSX, but a pellet rifle isn't shooting a monolithic copper bullet.

Really leaning towards the .356/9mm.

What Paper Target Did You Shoot Today

Hi Guys,
I had planned on going to the range all last week, but kust never got there. Today, i had the whole range to myself!
Took the Epoch to 100 yards and messed around with the FPS looking for a lower speed for stability
Took some shots and changed the high pressure setting for more velocity bit by bit
IMG_0164.jpeg

this can be really discouraging ... made me feel like i shouldn't have messed around with the settings
Then after many changes i think i have it.
IMG_0165.jpeg

Will see if i can do the same tomorrow
Mike

Springtime - and the starlings and squirrels are back

Set up a bait station, um, a bird feeder. Whack em when they are there.

Otherwise I would use very low power for close shot under the eves.

Wadcutters are the rule. Slow speed hammers that will pass through a hosp or yellow beak, but lose most of its pop.

For what you describe I wouldn’t go over 5fpe.

Squirrels will need more that that in most situations.

GX CS2 most hours of use.

Trucker3573 nailed it. I have 3 Cx2 compressors at different locations and had a Cs3 and a cs4. I got rid of the 3&4 because they were more than I needed. I only fill guns and for that they can't be beat. I actually gave one to a fellow who bought the cs3 and told him to abuse it. Nine months later he bought my cs3 and returned the cs2. There was some small amount of corrosion in the gauge block and that was it. Of all that I have none have failed and I've had one fully apart to see wear and it was near perfect.
