HW/Weihrauch  Some HW30 upgrades.

This is the 2nd one I bought to give to my nephew for Christmas. It was shooting 63 fps slower than the 1st one I got, using JSB 7.33's.
So I took it apart for an inspection.
IMG_7737.jpeg

It already has wear marks on the receiver tube from the cocking linkage.
So I deburred the linkage and tube with a needle file and polished them with a cratex bit in my dremel.

IMG_7800.jpeg

I reblued the receiver (not shown here). Deburred all the receiver cut outs and holes. The factory spring guides are sloppy loose and the spring was kinky, so I ordered 2 new JM HW30/R7 springs, they are shorter by about .600" and use a thicker wire, .113" - 27 coil vs the .106" - 29 coil factory spring. Then I made new guides for a snug fit.

After consulting with Ed Canoles about his break barrel oring piston sealing process, I decided to follow his play book and try to oring seal this HW30. After making a gage with a couple of interchangeable heads, with different diameters.
I then checked the receiver tube to find a tight restriction where the hanger is welded on. With this, I made a hone, similar to Ed's out of PVC pipe. After honing 95% of the restriction out, I made a test piston head to attach to my gage handle and checked to see if it would seal, and it did. pushing or pulling it held tight. The factory seal didn't hold as well when tested.
With this, I went ahead and made the real oring piston seal, polished the piston and checked for latch rod run out. Factory guide beside my guides.

Lubed everything with Krytox 223, don't have time to go thru the trigger, cleaned it and adjusted. Here's the JM spring on the left vs the HW on the right.
IMG_7796.jpeg

Tonight I tested five different pellets at 10' over the Garmin Xero in my garage, I'll retest at a longer distance tomorrow. Anyway, I gained 51 fps with the falcon 7.33 and 36 fps with the JSB 7.33 which are a looser fit. Not much gain with the 8.44 pellets 11 fps, but a gain none the less.
The H&N baracuda 8 was the tightest fitting of the five I tested. I don't have time for anymore testing, but I will when I go thru my own HW30 later on.

Will have to see how it settles in after they shoot it a bit. Right now only about a hundred pellets thru it. I'm calling my effort a success with the 7.33's.✌🏻

Stoeger  XM1 ranger

Been shooting my xm1 ranger for about a week now still breaking it in and seeing what it likes to eat but have a question. if anyone has ether the ranger or scout what do yall use to tighten the tension nut at the end of the barrel/shroud. when I first got mine it was completely apart in the box so I just snugged it up by hand but it wont stay tight and there's only 2 little notches to get something there to tighten it. any help would be appreciated. love the ranger its great been very consistent in 22 getting right at 65 shots before it falls off the reg

Benjamin  Huma regulator in Marauder 25 caliber

Hello, my next investment for my Marauder is going to be a Huma regulator. I'm thinking of going with the one with the larger plenum. My questions are these :

Does anyone have a Marauder with either the standard plenum or larger plenum? If so, what psi/bar do you have it set at and what velocity are you getting with 25.39 and 33.95 jsb pellets? And also shot counts.

Would you also add an SSG along with the regulator?

Lastly, I think.....I read where someone was recommending a lighter hammer spring with the regulator. I would assume then that you would also want a lighter spring in the ssg also then, correct?

I'm hoping to hear from those who have added one or both of these components.

Thank you!

Winter Blahs = More Forum Time

How many have noticed that your forum participation seems to get a jolt during the winter months? I visit here daily, multiple times a day, but notice that unless I tend to be a little more quiet during the summer months. I'm not stuck indoors as much and tend to be outside as much as possible when not at work.

But during the winter, I post a bit more... and look a little closer at the classifieds, unfortunately. I'm set up for 10m airgunning in my gun room, but sadly it doesnt get as much use as I figure it could/should during winter.

Anyone else notice the same of yourself?

HW/Weihrauch  Chronograph Uses

I recently purchased a .177 HW97k. All my shooting will be target only at 25 yards or less. On this forum I see members talking about using chronographs. What is gained, if any, from an accuracy standpoint using them. It appears to me that a velocity change would relate to a weak or broken spring problem, which the chronograph would identify. Am I missing something?

HW/Weihrauch  Jaw-dropping HW 35's...

Let me start by saying these are NOT mine (I wish)...! They are both owned by a friend and were photographed when they sauntered past my table at the 2023 Columbus, Ohio airgun show.

FIrst up, an "RDB 1" - stamped, chrome-plated, HW 35EB - Beeman's unique version combining the European "Export" walnut stock and standard 19-inch barrel. It's one of a small number created of course for the good Dr. Robert D. Beeman himself:

IMG_1225.jpeg

And then the piece de resistance...a gold-plated, engraved masterpiece with museum-grade custom walnut thumbhole stock. Surely one of the most desirable examples of this classic in existence:

Fx m4 vs fx king discussion!

Looking for input of users on both sides of these wonderful platform. Especially hunters. I myself am a hunter and love long range shots on chipmunks in Arkansas and hunting in the hills of Tennessee! How does your platform/setup handle in the field? How does it handle on a long day of walking? Pros and cons?
Just trying to help others and myself with this battle of the kings/ flagships of competition world/ hunting scene. Thank you for all your responses and insight have a blessed day.

American Air Arms  Image of new AAA Evol???

One of the banners on HAM shows what looks like a possible version of the new Evol:

New AAA Evol.png

This is DEAD SEXY!!! I really hope that this version is released. I just called AoA and they insist that Tom is only releasing the version of the Evol with the MOA barrels that look like ratchet extensions... what a bummer. I'm sure it will perform great, but I just don't like the looks of it. If I'm spending that much on a new rig, it also needs to look good!

Tell the Truth.

How many times have you taken the same gun, shot the same ammo with all the same settings, and shot an outstanding group, only to fail to do the same thing the next time you took out the same gun?
Everything is the same; you ask yourself, what the heck happened? You stare at the gun, thinking, why have you failed me? What has changed? What has caused this?
You go on this or that forum and ask questions. Why?
You get many answers, but none seem to help you; what now?
If everything is, in fact, the same, wouldn't the answer be YOU?
What brought this to my attention was the post about showing me your best group.
My best group is not with my most accurate rifle, yet it is my best group, this is a ten-shot group, so the rifle is in fact accurate.
Maybe this rifle is very accurate but more challenging to shoot accurately;I had a good day taming it; it was me.
I better stop. My ADD is taken over now, What I am trying to get across: Some day,s the shooter is better or not as good, it has nothing to do with equipment, it has to do with how your Mind has overcome the distractions in it to focus on shooting "tight groups".

Traditional Rifle  NLA TX200 MKIII .22/Weirauch HW50 .22(John in PA tuned)

If a trade comes about would like to do after holidays are over for less risk of guns getting damaged/lost. I'm looking to trade both guns for a Air Arms S510 XS Extra .22 Carbine or TDR. Prefer to trade with members with positive established feedback.
Please trades need to be in excellent condition and good working order, prefer the sidelever S510s.
Anything that looks like marks on barrels is from led lighting.
Might also trade for syn stock Crown .25 w/380 or 500mm barrel. Also maybe a Mini Cricket Carbine .22.

1. My TX is in excellent condition with a very small scuff on top of barrel that came with gun when new, comes with a 12ftlb Vortek kit that I installed thinking it was a full power kit. I shot it enough to zero in play around a little and then kill a couple limits of squirrels with it.. gun shot very, very good with it. Gun now has the HO PG4 Vortek kit in it shooting 14.5-15.5 ftlbs depending on the pellet. Also very accurate, it shoots the cph pellets well enough to squirrel hunt if wanted at 15.5ftlbs. Also comes with original spring internals. Plus 1 pc scope mount.

2. HW50 .22 shooting right under 12ftlbs, this gun was tuned by John in PA plus he chopped barrel and threaded 1/2-20, barrel is 14-14.5 in. Bluing is slightly marred where barrel was machined but not bad. Gun has a Vortek kit in it and Ive put maybe 300 rounds thru it so not all the way broken in but is very accurate none the less. Comes with a Hawke etched reticle 2x7 AO scope and Rocker 1 mod.

At this moment not interested in selling but if no trades might consider later. 2 awesome springers both very accurate, with great triggers etc.

Why El Cheapo compressors are no bargain

Lots of users don't realize the amount of energy in high pressure air and how it stresses a compressor. When I was first starting out in PCPs I learned my lesson by not following proper procedure when filling a rifle. I pulled out the fill probe after filling to 200 bar without first opening the bleed valve on the tank. The tiny amount of pressurized air in the microbore hose sounded like a gun shot. It was a lesson never forgotten and gave me an instant appreciation of the energy in high pressure air.

Box compressors selling at similar prices as name brand hand pumps are not durable or reliable. These oilless box compressors can only be built economically in China where labor is cheap, liability is not a cost of doing business, and repairs are impractical due to shipping expense. The metallurgy of these box compressors is substandard for the amount of stress they endure. Leaks are common and failures are inevitable. It's like expecting a VW beetle to tow a boat trailer. It might for a time or two but it will break down quickly as it's not built for the task.

There should be a separate forum for these repetitive posts. It seems that 75% of questions asked on this forum are from people asking 1) What's the best budget compressor? 2) My budget compressor is broken. How do I fix it?

These questions are asked ad nauseum on this forum. My reply is as follows.

Please use the search function as this has been asked a million times already. If you read this forum you will see many posts with the same question.

Moral of the story. You get what you pay for. An oilless box compressor is "plug and pray" and a waste of money. Owners spend more time repairing them than filling with them.

FX  fx bottle valve threads wearing.

i have a question about the threads in the bottle valve.
I've taken this bottle off 3 times and the 4th was a day ago when i swapped to the 700mm barrel.
i don't put any kind of lube on the threads although I've been tempted to put maybe high-pressure moly grease
or maybe some copper never seize? i usually just wipe the threads clean with a microfiber cloth and use a q tip to clean the bottle valve threads.
I'm thinking i will have to replace both the nipple on the gun and that valve in the bottle as going back on the 4th time it felt like it started to bind a little. also. like to take the tank off with 150 bar or less just makes sense to me that it takes stress off the threads if I'm thinking correctly.
should there be some lube on the threads? anyone else run into this?
all i can picture is unscrewing the tank and the threads stripping out. seems like the bottle valve threads are wearing more so than the nipple on the gun
is there a lube to prevent this from happening again or maybe one of those stainless bottle valves utah sells air Marksman?
