Solved! Large FX Impact POI Shift Issues (Impact from Hell)

I've edited this to fix the several spelling and grammar mistakes. I feel really dumb after reading them all. 😂 Sorry to anyone that had to read the original post...

Hello! I'm new to the forum, but this seems like the best place to get advice. I am not new to airguns, but I am new to the FX Impact. I work on all of my guns—centerfire and air—and have never had this many issues. I'm almost ready to throw it in the trash.

I am including all of my problems, even though they might not be related.

Some Backstory:
I bought a Demo FX Impact M3 .22 600MM from Utah Airguns a few months ago and have had nothing but problems with it. It seems that every time I buy an airgun from them, there is some major problem with it. I guess I haven't learned my lesson. To start off with, my "functioning gun" came with a junk regulator (4 disks flattened and caused severe reg creep). Then I installed a new Huma regulator. It was also missing a few random parts that have been replaced. I installed a Slug Power Kit and had several issues with power consistency. I have since removed everything, but the hammer weight. I have installed a STX heavy barrel liner and a carbon fiber barrel sleeve. I have lightly glued the ends to keep the sleeve from moving. At some point the valve rod bent (not sure if it was like that when I received it or after, but it has since been straightened out within a few thou). The first stage of the trigger sometimes gets hung up and won't reset. It will then proceed to fire when on safe. I have tried adjusting it, but the issue always comes back. There have been a few other problems, but I'm sure you guys don't want to read an entire book.

I currently have about 450 slugs through this liner. I am currently shooting NSA 31.2gr @ 990fps. My tune is 1st reg @250 bar, 2nd reg @ ~173 bar, front valve adjuster @.404, macro @14, and micro @ 4.375.

Now to my current problem. Every time I take the gun out of its case (after sitting for a day), my zero/point of impact is severely off from the day before. It seems to trend down and to the right about 2" at 40yds (my zero). I have had some extremes as far as 4 inches to the right. I check my velocity every time I take it out, and it stays within 5fps of 990fps. I can refill my bottle and shoot as many rounds as I want, and it will not return to my original zero. When I put the gun away for the day, I lay it down on its side on a foam pad. There is nothing that should be tweaking the barrel. The temperature and humidity have stayed roughly the same throughout all of this. I have tried retuning my gun a few times, and it doesn't seem to improve my situation either.

So far I have done the following to try to help remedy the poi shift.

1.) Carbon Fiber Sleeve (I have never tried shooting this with the factory o-rings)

2.) Ensured that everything is torqued to spec (scope base, scope rings, backbone, pic rail, barrel clamp, set screw that attaches and holds down the barrel by the transfer port.)

3.) Put on a trusted scope that has never had any issues before.

4.) Retuned the gun and ensured that nothing was getting bumped.

5.) Checked weights and lengths of slugs to ensure I wasn't getting weird seating depth issues. Also includes making sure slugs are clearing the transfer port.

6.) Swapped to 25cal Donnyfl moderator in case it was clipping

7.) Used gauge pins to ensure slugs aren't clipping shroud.

8.) Holding the gun in many different ways (I have heard they can be hold sensitive)

9.) Removed all o-rings touching the outer sleeve of the barrel

Some potential issues that may be causing it

1.) The carbon fiber sleeve has about .010 of play inside of the outer sleeve. (Should it be a light press fit?)

2.) The scope rail does not allow for centered scope rings on the tube. The front ring has about .100 of clearance from the turret. It is currently sitting in the only place for proper eye relief.

3.) Possible bad o-ring that I can't find. (I have taken the gun apart several times and can't seem to find any that are bad.)

4.) The entire barrel system (related to the carbon fiber sleeve fitment)

I'm sorry for the rambling, but I am at my wits end with this rifle. Has anyone ever had this many issues with POI shift? How were you able to fix them? It would be nice to know why you decided to change the part(s) and how much it affected the outcome. I'm willing to try just about anything at this point. I don't mind spending money to fix it, but I am also getting really sick of dumping money into it. I haven't contacted Utah Airguns about this issue, but I will not be doing that. That's a story for another time. I have debated on putting an Airmarksman backbone on it, even though it doesn't seem to be hold sensitive. I have also considered sleeving the old liner and glueing the carbon fiber sleeve to the outer liner, installing a tensioner, or machining a solid barrel. This is a hunting rifle, so I don't want to add a bunch of weight to an already heavy gun as I walk several miles every time I go out. First shot accuracy is very important to me, and I can't trust this rifle, which is a shame as I hadn't heard of anything negative about these guns until I really started researching the issues I've had.

I've attached a picture of my scope mounting so you can see what I am talking about.

Thanks for the help!

N/A  PCP shotgun options?

I’m looking at pcp shotguns. I live in South Dakota so it would get regular use, especially with pheasant season right around the corner. Tons of birds are making their way into our pasture and tree line. I know I will be able to get a few with my rifle since they are often in my yard and on the edges. At the edge of my property there is a gravel road, directly on the other side is corn fields very high traffic area.
Shotgun would definitely increase my chances and would make it a lot more fast paced and fun.
So far I’ve found 3.
Seneca wingshot 2
Serpent arms 550
Umarex primal
Does any one have experience with these models and have any opinions?

HW/Weihrauch  HW90 Locking up

Recently acquired early series HW90! During the cocking cycle when RETURNING barrel into closed position it jams on the return. Check the stock screws, no interference, seems to be the chamber and the bottom of the breach block rubbing and locking up

Anyone else have this occur and know solution please

N/A  Average Distance of your shooting sessions?

Threads like this always get me to wondering as to why some buy “airguns” to try to consistently and practically shoot at 100 yards. Unless you’re putting in lots of time and effort and equipment prep. Or are a competitive shooter with great equipment? Your on a wild goose chase…

Not saying that some guns and shooters aren’t capable of sending consistently good groups at that distance. It just not the norm for the majority. I can shoot out to 100 yards in my backyard and spent a lot of time trying to to achieve good groups for the N.U.A.H. Club challenge at GTA. It took weeks of sending to finally get the right conditions for me to achieve Master status… But to what end for me personally? After that endeavor I deemed that for myself? I was done trying to chase MOA at 100 yards with my PCPs… I’ve killed pigeons out to 100+ yards. But found through experience that I prefer to shoot and pest out to 60-70 yards…

99% of my shooting is from 25-64 yards, at those distances the hits on objects the size of a chipper’s head are consistent. Out to 100 yards and beyond? Even mildly windy conditions introduce lots of variation in the flight of pellets… And yes, I’ve read about the slug hoopla. But the majority got into airguns for their short range practicality sending pellets. Simply finding it amusing (in a good way) the fact that some enter this hobby searching for 50-100+ FPE PCPs to shoot at 100+ yards…

Pumkin Carving Time Is Here.

Yes yes I know it's a little early but it's always something I wanted to try and figured why not be ahead of the game. Scope used is the DNT Optics ThermNight TNC225R which was mounted on my Huben K1 .22 set at 20FPE. This was alot of fun and really enjoyed it. Make sure you check out the DNT line and feel free to use brawler10 on your purchases.

  • Question
Stoeger  Stoeger XM1 Bullpup How Tune Down?

Recently acquired the Bulllshark in .177. Actually shoots quite well for it's price. It currently shoots around 1100 FPS w/ crossman premier HP too hot for my needs. I'd love to be able to get this thing down to under 800 FPS. Is that possible and how? I can't seem to find any tuning instructions on this specific rifle. I'm assuming this can be adjusted via hammer spring tension and or regulator adjustments, but have no idea where to start. Any help appreciated.

Kalibrgun  The Cricket Carbine, or There & Back Again

My favorite misfit from the land of bullpups (eastern/central EU) is the Cricket Carbine. Have spilled enough virtual ink here & elsewhere on the net explaining why, so will keep it simple here: more than any other rifle - air or powder - it just fits me. Saw a while back that @Georgia Airguns had some left in .25, at a reduced price. Life got in the way for several months, but finally settled down a bit... figured now was the time, as they probably won't be available much longer. Mr. Frear did the voodoo that he do on one & sent it my way.

Very little wind late yesterday afternoon, so pellet testing was on. The test target Charlie sent with the gun showed FX/JSB 25.4 & JSB 33.9 MKII shooting very well at 40 yards, with JSB Hades also showing perfectly acceptable hunting accuracy. Tested 5 kinds of pellets (FX & JSB 25.4 = same thing different wrappers). Apparently this barrel will shoot well with anything pellet shaped & .25 caliber. The biggest group, at a lasered 100 yards, was barely over an inch & a half. Will let the picture tell the rest; as the late, great Paul Harrell would say- you be the judge.

1000004016.jpg

Been doing this long enough to know that one five shot group is only the foreward, not the book. That said, it’s clear this one is a shooter! Two manufacturers, two lead alloys, three weights, and four shapes... dang.

Side notes:
  • This is my first rifle of ~half dozen that has shot any of the AEA/JTS offerings worth a hoot. Almost didn’t order any due to previous poor results, but glad I did. Don’t’ get me wrong, the others in .177, .22, & .30 had great weight/head size consistency, it just didn’t translate on targets. Rifle barrels being rifle barrels, no talking them into it with statistics.
  • 25.4 pellets were moving at ~950 fps, & the 33.9 at ~845. Didn't chrony the AEA 29.5.
  • All shooting done with JB3D single shot loader, clever design that works well.
For the immediate future, going with JSB KH MKII. Taking it to a UFT match this weekend, not sure I can get dope & still have enough of the AEA 33.9 to complete a 60-shot match (only bought one 150 count tin). Or that I could get more before then. After this weekend, will do a more thorough shootout among the three heavy pellets before stocking up on the winner.

Obligatory eye candy photo of the rifle below, with SFWA SS 12x scope & Warne medium rings.

Matching slugs to barrels- A perspective

Now the pursuit of accurate slugs that certain shooters want for their respective rifles is a real effort. Which strategy works best? Fastest? Do we use random size diameters, weights? Brands? Main consensus is grab several different weights, diameters and brands. This can get pricey and very labor intensive. I personally got sold on matching barrel diameter and matching close as possible. This eliminates 80% of available slugs and greatly reduces experimental costs and yield faster results. Others may disagree, but that’s my humble stance. Now this seems to apply to standard barrels, polygon barrels do better with smaller diameter ammo than their diameter would indicate.

Crosman  What is the Crosman 760?

My dad passed away a couple of years ago and mom took over the household, including his guns. She died recently and I was given his air guns. He was a Crosman multi-pump fan so 3 of the 4 were Crosman, and one is a Daisy. I was able to rebuild the 766 and 2100 (essentially the same).

The next is to look into the 760. But, there are a number of versions of it so I don't know what it is to find an exploded diagram or parts. Here are some pictures.

Beeman  Now I have two 🙀

I have ordered a number of the Beeman pcp and wanted one of several. Today my Commander in .22 came in and when I went to store the box I saw another box just like this one🤨. And starting to look for the other one and I was. Setting about 6 feet from it and sever more. Don’t know how I missed when I thought I had carefully check what ones I had. Anyway isn’t two always better than one. Charles

PCP Rifle  NLA Talon SS .20, Red/Mad Dog Stock, Altaros Regulator LOWER PRICE

Impulse purchase. Purchased during the July 4th sale. Ordered the Mad Dog stock and Altaros regulator shortly after receiving the airgun. Regulator works really well, it's set at about 135 bar and shoots the 13.73 JSB's at 740 fps. I shot it yesterday and got 70 shots with an extreme spread of 11 fps. If you want more power the regulator would need to be turned up along with the power wheel. Before I added the regulator max fps was in the 840's. The auto safety has been removed. There were a few places on the air tank that were chipped (see pictures), I've touched them up since I took the picture and they're not noticeable unless you're looking for them. I took my Impact 480cc tank and it used temporarily. Fits perfectly with the Mad Dog stock. THE .48L TANK IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE IT WILL COME WITH THE ORIGINAL TANK. I just wanted show how it looked. Got a little bit of a hangover with the original tank but works fine and does not affect my hold at all.
Scope and rings not included
I've got well over $800 in this setup, selling for $600 $550 shipped CONUS, Pay Pal F&F or buyer pays fee.

best materials to clean you barrel

still being green to this sport id rather ask than make mistakes
so my questions are
how often do you clean the barrel
do they use a brush like 22s or a soft swab I'm thinking a brush would ruin an air gun barrel but i could be wrong that's why i ask

which cleaning solution? something with silicone base?

use patches like a 22 push through until they come out clean i would suspect

when not in use do you lube the barrel slightly or no

don't mean to be a pain in the arse
id rather measure 2wice and cut once
thanks

PCP Rifle  SOLD Edgun Leshiy classic .25/.22

To clarify:

- Scope is an Sig 1-6 in Sig mount. It’s the cheaper $300ish scope.
- Bipod is made by Spartan Precision. Came on rifle so don’t know much else about it.
- Comes with .25 and .22 barrels.
- Huma and factory regulator.
- Spinning pellet dispenser.
- Digital gauge
- Crappy hard case.
- Extra O rings.
Price is 1900 OBO. Shipping and insurance is included.

Really hate to post this one but something needs to go and lately I find myself shooting this the least.

First the bad: it apparently has sprung a leak. It was sitting at around 190 BAR 3 weeks ago and now it’s at 109. It comes with extra o rings though!

Currently setup with .25 barrel but also comes with a .22 barrel. The .22 barrel has a few spots of surface rust on exterior. Im sure they would come off but I never tried.

Has a Huma regulator installed as per the previous owner and also comes with original. It also has the digital gauge installed.

Also has this fancy little pellet dispenser that is apparently hard to get 🤷‍♂️

Bipod/scope also included. Will ship in a small hard case (nothing fancy) insured.

Payment either Zelle or PP f/f. I don’t do goods and services anymore.

If interested, send me a message with your number and I’ll text back.

Would consider trade for another compact/folding style PCP plus cash to me. Straight trade would do me no good at this point. Might also consider trade towards a HW44 pistol, preferably .22.

Thanks

$1900 obo for it all.
