The Boss is Back!

Thanks for the forum and all who post good info. and tips!

My Fx Boss 30 cal. had a leak and I could repair it! Now please don’t laugh about me, I’m not an expert servicing PCPs so this is a big achievement for me...

The leak was not obvious. It was a slow leak, about 5 BAR per day. Finally I found it was leaking through the vent hole of the regulator. Opened it, replaced the external orings of the regulator, which looked damaged (luckily had an oring kit!), assembled and filled with air. After 1 day it seemed keeping air. Then went to the chrony, numbers were good. Filled again and waited a week. It kept all air. Tested, it works as it should. Very happy.

Perhaps in these times the newer airgunners don’t know or don’t remember that it was a big HIT when the Boss first came out some 10 years ago. A 80 fpe gun, giving more than 40 regulated shots per fill, good trigger, flawless multi-shot, with a very decent noise suppression right from the factory. This was something not seen before. I bought mine new in 2013 and loved it, at 25 yards it stacks pellets all day.

So the Boss is back and ready for rock & roll!

I received the holy grail of boards for the Drozd Blackbird, also a holy grail among full auto BB guns. Shooting it evokes similar excitement I had as a kid when my mom would let me shoot the BB gun at the fair.

(Sergey’s board compared to stock)

The board is custom made by a gentleman named Sergey. It takes the blackbird from 1200 rpm to 5000 rpm. 16 volt to 25 volt capacitor with an added capacitor for the magazine to keep up with the solenoid. Also, it is more adjustable. A stock board has 3 options: single shot burst, triple, and six shot. Sergey’s board can be set from single to 10 shot and full auto. RPM ranges from 400 rpm to 5000. 12 power levels. A lot of value for a $100 upgrade that requires a little soldering.

I sure am glad we’re still able to receive goods from eastern bloc countries. Ingenuity and quality craftsmanship is embedded in their genetics. I.e. Taipan, Edgun, Ataman, Kalishnakov, Baikal, etc.

Water/Oil filter question

I've recently ordered a Uragan 2, GX compressors (CS3 and 4) scopes, mounts, bipods, you name it to play again with PCP. I've never used a water/oil filter with these in the past, but wanted to use one now. I've read many posts on here and it seems that the type with the cartridge is preferred. Will something like this suffice?

Thanks

PB long range vs Shooting long range with PCP

My son in law owns a gun school and is working his way into the precision rifle area.
He has spent a fair amount of time behind several of my guns and really enjoys shooting them and stretching the legs on them.
He asked me the other day what distance I thought shooting a PCP would equate to shooting pb’s @ 800-1000 yards.
Honestly never gave it a thought. I am sure there is some mathematical or ballistic calculation that would arrive at an accurate answer but I thought to pose the question here as there are some serious ballistic people here and a fair amount of people who like shooting their PCP’s at distance and it may create an interesting discussion.
So, anyone have an idea or a factual answer?

Tuning  Weird FX Maverick ?

I will try to explain this best I can as I don’t think this is usual. I have a 25 Maverick compact. I currently run the second reg about 100 bar. The first reg was around 135-140 but I bumped it a little but not sure exactly. Anyway, I tuned the gun at 100 bar on PW 7 to get the max speed for 25.39 with the internal adjuster. I then turned the internal screw down just a touch when I found this point. Now that puts me around 900-912 fps very consistently. I also have a digital gauge on my gun. I notice if I shoot power wheel 7 that reg recovers right near that 100 bar every time. Now the weird part. Drop to PW 5 and as I shoot and watch the digital gauge the plenum starts to fill to a lower pressure than pw 7 and where it was set to begin with. It will start filling to 97 bar. Extreme spread suffers on 5 but most shots stay 860’s -870 some in the 880’s. However it will inevitably shoot a dud somewhere in the string like clock work. It will be like 840 or 830. When this happens the plenum pressure doesn’t even recover to 97. It might be like 95 bar. Then the gun will fire one or two additional low power shots, seemingly until enough air is taken out of the plenum that it recharges properly. It’s weird. Basically as you strike the valve with less power the plenum fills to a lower pressure. I don’t think this is usual. I’m curious who makes a better reg than these stupid amp regs for a Maverick as it seems a reg issue. Oh, and I am waiting a long time between shots to ensure replenish time. I guess does anyone else with a digital gauge on their Maverick notice this trend at lower power wheel settings?

Red magazine for a Leshiy 2 in caliber 177 (4.5 mm)

Hello, I registered here some time ago and so far I have really enjoyed reading the great posts.
Because I'm not yet allowed to post in the classifieds thread, I'll write this here and hope that I haven't done anything
wrong in this forum.
I have a Leshiy 2 in .177 caliber. I am extremely happy with her. I come from good old Germany ;-).

Mod edited content: does anyone know where I might find a spare .177 magazine?

Please don't be angry if I'm in the wrong thread with my post, unfortunately I don't know my way around here very well.
Thank you and I wish you a nice week.

Don't TRUST your Safety (NEW GUN)

This is a brand new .25 Power Pup, fresh out of the box.

ALWAYS check the Safety on a NEW GUN! I was just lucky I didn't find this out the hard way.

P.S. Nothing against this manufacturer. It could have been a 1 in 1 million chance and I happened to get it. If it was actually a problem, people would say, "That happened to me"...but I doubt that will be the case.

This video is UNLISTED (not a public video)

Help me decide

So I have been into air rifles for a solid 11 years now. I have owned a couple Marauders (still have the .17), have a maximus .17, Crosman 1322 with 14.5 inch barrel in carbine config, Sheirdan 2260MB, my old 1991 760 pumpmaster and recently a very accurate Gamo Swarm Maxim .22 my son got for his birthday. My only other break barrel was a Hatsan 95 in .22 that I sold to a friend......it shot great. I do a lot of centerfire rifle shooting and varmint hunting but I would like to start getting some nicer air rifles. The desert is an hour away to shoot centerfire and I can shoot airguns as much as I want in my backyard at 20, 25 and 35 yards.

I am leaning towards the Beeman R7 or a Weihrauch HW50. I just want something quiet for target shooting, I have what I need for rats and crows. The Beeman seems super nice but kinda strikes me as overpriced for low power .17 at 410 bucks shipped. The HW50 can be had for 360 shipped from Krale and seems like you get a little more for your money. I have looked hard at the HW95 as well but i think the R7 or HW50 will fit my needs better. I would get the R7 in .17 but I think I would get the HW50 in .22. I also thought of getting the HW30 in .22 since that is the only one in stock and just shoot lighter .22 cal pellets in it. Anyone shoot a HW30 in .22? Thoughts between the R7 and HW50? This would be for 20 and 25 yards only. Thanks.

Tuning  FX is showing up unprecedented customer support. Thanks Frederick and Johan

Dear Members

FX has sent the required replacement regulator for brand new M3 of my country's user at my provided UK based address as per commitment of Johan.

In the meantime Frederick has got me into contact with Andreas of his tech department and he sent a few internal parts of 1st regulator to see if it helps.

I understand if I had mentioned something like my misperception regarding ineffective after sale support by FX, it has no grounds anymore.

I understand that managing such a top of the line big Company requires attention on many other matters as well. That might cause delay sometimes.

I emphasise here that FX is no doubt helping us in my country where there is no dealer available.

I understand that one of my earlier posts went wrong somehow for which I have already tendered my apology openly.

Regards,

Umair Bhaur

M60 snowpeak .22 upgrade

PCP Rifle  NLA $1500 FX Crown Saber Tactical .25

I have a great condition FX Crown Saber Tactical in .25 It will come with:
Hard case
.25 700mm barrel kit with heavy slug liner and 2 mags
.25 700mm Superior liner
700cc bottle
Slug kit installed with pin probe and .25 cal sleeve. This is a great setup, but I prefer my WAR Flex instead. Will sell for $1500 plus shipping. PM me with any offers or questions. You can also text or call me at 509-99three-910five. This is a fantastic bench gun and a great slug shooter. It deserves to be in the hands of someone that has the patients to tune it properly. As is, I’m shooting the NSA 34.9 at 880 at less than 1.5” at 100. Some groups are right at 1”.

My new to me Crown .30

I spent a couple days with it this weekend and got it pretty close to zero. I'm shooting 72 yards for now until I get some clearing done.

I've had a few different experiences so far. One was that hanging my FX chrony on the berrel affected the POI down about 3/4". So I used a clamp style mic stand to put the chrony where it needed to be, with good results.
Another POI change happened when the scope got bumped. I pushed around on the scope and was able to shift POI, so I tightened everything up on the mounts, and re-zeroed.
Today a storm passed by and I got a stiff crosswind that shifted my POI 1-1/4". As it died down the POI, walked back into the bull. I don't know how much wind that was, but it was interesting.
I shot some paper and did some plinking.
Checkout those.30 cal hits on those CO2 cartridges.

old dudes

I gotta lotta miles on this body, and dearly love powerful springers. But I don't wanna carry a 11lb rifle all damn day. I just got a Hatsan Edge in 25cal and am having the time of my life. Sure, it's a little rough and cheap as hell, but it'll group with the best of them and holdover is no problem. I been doing that since I got my first Red Ryder in 1965. No, I don't need a $600 gun that weighs near twice that of my new beater. My wanderings are shorter nowadays and the little Hatsan makes them easier.

Pellet money

My gun club had a steel plate match this weekend. This afternoon I scrounged roughly 8,500 pcs of 9mm brass. Tomorrow I hit the scrap yard and they give me a hundred dollars for it. Then I call PA and buy 4,000-5,000 pellets with the money, 48 hours later I pick them up so UPS gets cheated out of the opportunity to destroy them.

Speed increase from 500mm to 600mm ?

Just curious what the approx speed increase would be going from a 500mm compact in my Maverick to a 600mm. Looking at shooting 33.95 pellets. Current tune with 500 mm is just over 900 with 25.39. Most videos I’ve seen the 33.95 are about 100 fps slower. My current setup should shoot them around 800 fps. Just curious how much the 600 mm would boost that with the same tune ?
