SOLD Virtually New Weihauch 80 .20 cal meticulously tuned rifle

As previously posted with other rifles, this rifle is one that I purchased new from AOA in December of 2021, to have a winter project to help me maintain my sanity, one of probably a dozen such purchases.

This rifle is a virtually new, Weihrauch HW80, in .20 cal. There is not a mark on it that I am aware of. The only non-original item is the little stud that centers and holds the rear sight spring in place, as it must have fallen out when I mounted the scope and was no where to be found when I went to put the original, never used iron sights back on today. I fabricated what was needed from a roll pin that I filed off to fit perfectly.

This rifle has had a Vortek PG4 Steel HO put kit installed, complete with Vortek's vacuum piston seal, and the internals have been meticulously polished by hand. The trigger was completely disassembled and the components hand polished. It "breaks" like glass. As you can see, I was able to reduce the 10 shot group size on my 18 yard indoor range to only .24."

The .20 calibers are among my very favorites as I feel that they shoot extremely accurately. There is absolutely no "buzz" in this rifle now. It is very, very smooth to shoot. I am only selling it to make room for more projects this winter.

Attached are all of the test targets and performance statistics. All together, I don't think there has been a tin of pellets through this rifle. It should last for generations.

All inclusive with the Vortek kit, Vortek vac seal, and the rifle from AOA, I have $665 in it, not including all of the custom tuning work and pellet testing. I am offering it shipped within the continental US for $600 via PayPal F&F or add 3% for regular PayPal. With the tuning already complete and no shipping to or from a tuner, this should be a very good deal.

If you are worried about pellets, I probably have 10,000 H&N 11.42s on hand and in the new tins of 250. I would be glad to include pellets at the Pyramid Air price (plus the additional shipping due to increased weight) should you want to be sure you have pellets for your rifle.

STUD New Product Release - About a month ago we released the new 40 round magazines in .25 caliber for the FX Impact. We now have the .22 caliber version of this magazine available and in stock in our store. Silky smooth feeding on the STUD roller bearing and chain system assures accurate indexing with every shot. Visual "shots remaining" indication assures you will never run out of rounds at a critical time.

We have also designed this magazine to fit both right- and left-handed shooters. With over 1" clearance between the inside of the elbow and the bottom of the mag (right-handed) and 1" distance from chest to the face of the mag (both right- and left-hand shooters). The mag will never make contact with the user.

New member looking for guidance

Hi all! Been lurking and reading for about a month and have more questions than ever. I'm wanting a PCP in .25 cal for use at my cabin to target shoot and thin out pests up to raccoon sized critters. Sure I have lots of tools to get it done (.17 HMR's, .22's and a 204) but just want to try a nice air rifle. Budget for the rifle alone is up to about $600 plus a scope and hand pump. The main reason for the meager allowance is that I plan on keeping it at the cabin and all though we've never had a problem, want to keep valuables to a minimum.

So far, the .25 cal is my choice and am looking at the Maurader and the Kratos. The thing I like about is Kratos is the larger tank size thus more shots between refills. Also, I have heard good things about the Benjamins and their warrany. I am open to other brands. I like the fact the Kratos has a piccatiny rail so I could slap my Thermal on if I wanted.

Any input before I jump?

Buyer beware

I have sold literally hundreds of items on ebay and Gunbroker, seller name jeffs55. I always insure the item against loss or damage. If the customer does not get a perfect item then I reimburse them FIRST and file a claim. I do not always win on a claim filing but no customer has ever lost a cent, I do. That is the way I do business but at least two people on this site do not see it that way. I know because I was contemplating buying items and asked them their policy. Their policy was to file a claim and collect or not but NOT to reimburse the customer. That is fine and it is/was up to me to find that out before buying. I did not buy. The last told me that I should by "new" from a dealer. What has that got to do with anything? What he should have said was that I should buy from a reputable source. Both the people above have great feedback but that is just luck that no one has lost from them.

Thanx
Jeff

4-H Junior FT attempt a flop

Reached out to the state level 4-H club to invite them to a FT match and explore FT as an activity. I found out that reactive targets, including knockdown are not allowed in 4-H, thus my hope of 4-H junior FT is a no-go. Super bummed out, was hoping we could incorporate FT somehow with the local 4-H shooting sports and get a youth division going. My son wants to shoot FT and would be fun for him to compete against other kids eventually. I remember shooting bb guns and springers as a kid in 4-H so it was fairly logical thinking. The 4-H director was super nice about it and would have considered FT if not for the rule, so can’t blame him. I guess there must have been something that happened to instigate the rule, just hope no-one was hurt.

So….Any clubs out there with a youth program or junior division? If so, any suggestions for starting one? Probably a pipe dream having a junior division, but its for my kid so its worth the effort, even if it doesnt fly.

😳 The CURSE of Success: Are you a victim?

🔷 The CURSE of Success: Are you a victim? 🔷

⨁ Are you hunting down pest animals to kill them?

⨁ Are you any good at it?

Then, you might become one of the victims of success.... 😳

I will briefly describe my depressing descend into the successful pester's abyss:

I started out as a lousy shot.
And I blame that to 100% on the gun. (That little trick I learned right here at the forum).
And because my gun was a bottom of the bargain-barrel gun.

📈 I bought a better gun.
And my success rate climbed. A lot more pests got dead on account of my shooting.

📈 I discovered the "Fully Field Rested" hold for my pesting pistol: (a) The off-hand pressed the gun into a sock filled with plastic chips, rested side-ways against a tree, or rested against the top rail of a fence.
(b) The trigger hand does nothing to support the pistol; it only pulls the trigger.
This gave my stooting extreme stability, and it showed in the improved success rate in pest kills.

📈 A wind meter told me how much wind I had to deal with, and a string told me from where it came from.
And math proved deadly once again — the ballistic calculator gave me better trajectory corrections, resulting in a yet higher death rate for my shots....

📈 I bought a scopecam and figured out that my gun's favorite pellet started to spiral at around 50y — ranges at which I used to "score" mostly misses.
Now my success rate climbed again as I cleaned out pests at locations previously unassailable to me.
Great success!

Great, right?
Yeah, right....

▪ Ask my how many pests I've seen at my permission lately.
▪ Ask me how many kills I scored in the past month.

No, better not ask me.
It's too depressing. 😖

📉 After all this successful pesting — I now have very few pests to kill anymore.
I have become a victim of my own success at killing.
The curse of success....

֎ What's your story?

֎ Has success gotten to you?

֎ What's your curse?

🔺 What's YOUR CURE?!?

Matthias

🔶 PS:
I can give you the contact info of my psychiatrist. She is helping me to overcome this victim syndrome, and I am learning to cope.

One of the first therapeutic treatment regimens she put me through was a day-long expedition where I was to identify at least 3 more pest species within a 2-hour driving distance of my home.
I can see that she really knows what she's doing. — I am feeling already much better! 😊

Anyone tried this scope?

Has anyone tried any of the Sniper scopes? I’m wondering about the clarity, turret adjustments , etc

Any thoughts on the causes and fixes for these shot patterns?

These are 25m benchrest shots. Very calm conditions. 15mm between POA bulls. They were shot left to right (row 14 first), using .177 JSB 13.4gr MRDs (washed, not lubed), using my Daystate Pulsar (with Heliboard and Falx moderator) in a Sinclair front rest (with freely-rotating Rodzilla top) and Protektor rear bag. Barrel regularly cleaned with dry patches but not during this sequence. Muzzle FPS across the 30 shots ranged from 766-775 with SD of 2.4; no correlation of vertical spread with FPS. Reservoir pressure fell steadily from about 195 to 156 bar across the 30 shot sequence.

Please note the y-axis wavy pattern of shots across the rows. I see this in a lot of my shooting with this gun, even when using different rests. Sometimes there is a waviness in the x-axis spreads but not in this sequence. Overall the spreads of POI to average POI are not that bad, particularly for row 14. But if I can find the cause of the waviness and address it, my scores might improve.

Do any of you see similar patterns in your shots?
Any ideas on what causes this?, e.g.,
- Is this simply randomness and I'm trying to discern a pattern out of random results?
- Is something happening to my hold and thus torque on the gun as I pan across the target? (Except this happens with lots of variations on holds)
- Is lead building up in the barrel and then periodically getting released?
- Is this the result of some sort of spiraling where the pellet reaches the target at different points of it spiral? (But the variations are mostly up-down without accompanying x-axis shifts I'd expect in a spiral)
- If barrel harmonics, why are the changes gradual from shot to shot?

World Championships update

Nation,

From my sources in Italy, the first day of the World Championships has begun, and was not able to be completed. It will resume tomorrow morning, where they left off today.
The issues that arose leading to the halt of the first days shooting, were many.
Broken strings, faulty targets, illegal size kill zones on positional lanes, no shade on a 90 degree open field, no cold water at all.
One competitor was taken away by ambulance for heat exhaustion.
A total disaster, from what I was told, utter embarrassment.
Best of luck to Team USA and all competitors trying to perform in these conditions.
I'll post scores and results as I receive them.

FX Impact M3 vs. Daystate Alpha Wolf?

Not really new to PCPs but it's been a while since I first purchased a Career 707 quite a few years ago.

I've been going through "analysis paralysis" and can't decide between these two fine air rifles. Apart from deciding that I want either of them in .22, they both seem to overlap in terms of versatility and tunability. My primary use will be target shooting at ranges up to 100 meters and small game pest control, again up to the same distance. I kind of prefer the ease of electronic power adjustability of the Alpha Wolf but the Impact also has the same adjustability albeit manually so I could probably live with either one.

Do you think that one is more suitable based on my intended use? Are there any real big differences between the two in terms of performance or accuracy?
