Taipan vet long .25, keeps gettin better!

If I had to keep one gun it would be the taipan. Tonight I sat on the deck and hit 10 for 10 black birds from 105 out to 120 yards. This is with a element scope, donny fl, and a speed dialer. Thats it. Ive got atleast 1000 pellets through it and never even cleaned it. I set the speed dialer for 895 fps and its never budged. Ive got a huma reg, two plenums and a heavy spring here but I dont even think Im going to bother. What a great gun!

NLA Brand New Arken SH4 Gen II 4-16x50 MOA FFP

I bought this about 2 months ago for my open class NRL 22LR. I have never mounted it, but instead mounted a Helix 4-16x44 on the rifle and was saving this for a different project gun of higher value. I ended up needing higher magnification, this is the only reason I am selling. It is brand new in the box, never mounted or taken out of the box. Comes with a new one piece 1.5" 34mm Arken mount and a 34mm Arken bubble level.
$349 shipped/insured for the package. Great deal IMHO compared to what I spent on it. The scope, mount and bubble level cost me a few hundred more then what I am selling it for here.

PayPal FF, price includes shipping and insurance to the lower 48. Not interested in any trades. Thank you!

Diana AirKing .22 Review

I finally got around to doing some bench shooting with my new AirKing Pro in .22 caliber. Here are the results from shooting at 35 yards:

JSB 15.9
Avg Velocity 758 fps ES 16.4 fps, Energy 20.3 ft-lb, Avg Group Size 0.69"

JSB 18.1
Avg Velocity 722 fps ES 21.5 fps, Energy 21.1 ft-lb, Avg Group Size 0.63"

Although initially I found the JSB 15.9 pellets to be more accurate, after tightening a loose muzzle weight and working through a tin of pellets I find I am doing better with the heavier 18.1 JSBs. Muzzle energy and thus efficiency is also better with the heavier pellets. Energy is a little better than the specified 19.2 ft-lb for the AirKing, although that may come down with further shooting.

The warning that Diana rifles tend to have a lot of barrel "droop" was definitely proven to be the case with my gun. Even with the RWS Lock Down mount installed I still had to shim the rear ring to get the elevation adjustment on my Nikon scope anywhere near centered. The large amount of first stage travel continues to be an annoyance. I will have to take care of that someday. Other than those two issues and the muzzle weight working loose, no other problems have cropped up.

As far as shooting characteristics go, it is still a springer and has the characteristic long shot time that can make it somewhat of challenge to shoot from anything other than a perfectly stable position. Although I am improving when shooting from sitting position, the sled function is not a cure-all for poor technique. Actually, from sitting position accuracy is not a lot better than I get from my TX200 once I am dialed in on that rifle. Bench shooting is another story, with a good rest very little time is needed to start getting decent groups out of the AirKing.

Which raises the question of where the AirKing fits in for practical shooting? It is awfully heavy and awkward to cock for hunting, unless you are able to shoot from some kind of rest. For position shooting a conventional springer can be almost as accurate once you get used to it. Bench shooting is where it seems to come into its own, but unfortunately, I don't do much bench shooting. Its benefit to me is in the larger caliber, my only springer in .22. The very high ballistic coefficient of the JSB 18.1 compared to the .177 JSB 8.4 (0.035 versus 0.019) will make the AirKing much more suitable for shooting at longer distances. And the relatively high power of the AirKing lets it generate reasonably high velocities for flat trajectories even when working with such heavy pellets.

Woohoo New Gun Day!

My new .20 cal 95 Luxus showed up today and right out of the box she is showing a ton of potential. I'm so glad I always ignore that voice inside of my head that says "YOU DONT NEED ANOTHER PELLET POOTER!!" That voice is weak willed and doesn't deserve to have an opinion haha.

Here she is with a Hawke Sidewinder 30 4-16x50 installed. That scope will likely end back up on my 97K but for sight in and testing purposes, it works quite well.

20220719_182152.jpg

The JSB 13.73gr seemed to be grouping much better than the FTTs (very loose fitting and not consistent on paper) so I tossed a few over the chrony to see where she sits. I must admit that I wasn't expecting this:
Screenshot_20220719-175057_FX Radar.jpg
Screenshot_20220719-175105_FX Radar.jpg

Finally, here is a quick 25 shot group taken at 30m. It isn't fantastic but its certainly good in my eyes. The gun only had 50 shots down the barrel and hasn't even had the barrel cleaned yet so under an inch is acceptable by my standards.

Some experimentation with my RAW

First of all, I have been wondering if the variation in head size from advertized makes any difference in accuracy or consistency. JSB has been all over the board with head sizes — very poor control. I sorted over 100 tins of Monster Redesign 22 cal first by weight and ended up discarding pellets under 24 grains (quite a few) or over 27 grains (also quite a few). I sorted into 8 hundredths groupings. Then I head sized each batch using a pelletgage. The pellets were either 5.54, 5.55 or 5.56 head size. The tins all said 5.52. Now for the testing. This morning I shot 2each 5 shot groups at 25 yards to see which had the smallest group size. The picture below shows the result (labelled).
D1AE3791-5AC3-46ED-8E8F-59D915BE454F.jpeg

Not much difference. Not enough to make a difference.

Next I figured "let's see about slugs at 50 yards" and I tested 3 weights I've previously tested indoors at 20 yards. First, the target at 20 yards indoors:
F7477977-A86C-49C6-BB4D-329D087EB7FD.jpeg

Now the same slugs at 50 yards:
A16E9697-1CAD-43A8-A07B-8A6BD629CE1C.jpeg

The bottom two targets are JSB Monster Redesigns to be sure zero was still valid. For sure the pellets are the most accurate and consistent (if I do my job) but the slugs (especially the 17.5 grain) do very well and may do well in wind.

SOLD Air Venturi avenger .25

Hello my name is Hunter and I have a .25 avenger. It has a AE Swede barrel stabilizer fitted to eliminate poi shift. Comes with hill mk5 hand pump, targets, original box, ammo, two magazines, single shot tray and scope. I have the reg set to 1800 and I get a lot of shots before refilling. With the hades pellets I have touched starling out to 100 yards. The gun is sighted in at 60 yards and at 50-60 I can take out a life saver! This gun has been very well taken care of and cleaned after every use. The gun and scope holds zero and has for 4 months. I have never been so impressed with an air gun like I have with this one.
I am asking $300 includes shipping and everything Please reach me at 903-574-1352 for any questions, thank you for your time.

Backyard Safari (Pictorial)

After returning home for a week long vacation with my family I discovered more rat activity in my backyard storage building. Those that follow my adventures know this is a continual problem that has become more frequent since we are now into Summer. About 9 months ago I received a Brocock Sniper XR, the Safari model from Airguns Of Arizona.

Snapshot_26.png

This rifle is the magnum version in .22 caliber and I have since then been using it on many of my outdoor hunting adventures. Those not familiar with this brand they are in my opinion some of the most ruggedly built Airguns on the market now. The Safari model has been worked hard and I have it configured to shoot the Daystate Howler 20.3gr Slugs at just about 40 fpe, plenty for the majority of small game hunting I do. Marley and I had previously used this rifle to hunt both Cottontails and Jackrabbits for a recent catch and cook video taking shots out over 80+ yards. I decided after seeing the rat activity in my storage building that I would use the Sniper XR, it would just need to be turned down in power.

Snapshot_27.png

I easily turned the power down on the rifle via the side adjustment knob, this is essentially just a transfer port restrictor. With just this adjustment I was able to bring the power down to 16 fpe using the 25gr redesigns. The rifle is extremely accurate and quiet with them and I went heavy to keep penetration to a minimum, my experience the gun is quieter and the slower pellet wont carry enough speed to penetrate as well as an 18gr JSB. My backyard is fairly good size but the position I have to shoot from to see the inside of the building is only 15 yards.

Snapshot_25.png

Now I have very little experience shooting at such close targets as the majority of the hunting I've done my whole life has been over 50 yards. This has embarrassingly been the case for me just being bad at close range shooting, something I have been practicing and improving upon. One of the tools I have in my backyard beyond paper targets is a small reactive target.

Snapshot_10.png

This is the RX Target Systems that I have been using for a good few years now, wonderful tool for practicing my hunting skills. My friend David has all different models of these and I have been impressed with how it's held up to some serious continued abuse.

Snapshot_28.png

After a bit of practice the beautiful wife put together some bait crackers that consist of Triscuts, Peanut butter and Chia Seeds.....hopefully these would contribute to the rats last meal. I'm lucky to have such an understanding wife that's motivated to keep me outside to hunt for a few hours. lol

Snapshot_13.png

Inside the storage building I have some wooden shelves that I cleared off the make visibility better and to have space to put the bait out. Generally most of the rats come in from the top portion of the rafters and will climb down onto the shelving. After the bait was in place I still had a few hours before night and for the commotion of neighborhood activities to quiet down. The neighborhood was now quiet as a mouse and it was time to make way outside where Marley and I would sit and wait for this evenings festivities.

Snapshot_14.png

I have a clear spot that I sit up against my house that gives a clear 15 yard sight into the front door of the storage building.

Snapshot_15.png

I do have two OneLeaf NV 100 clip on units, one is mounted to the scope and the other I use as a static camera to capture some of the action. I have little experience filming in low light conditions and over this past year have learned a great deal about what can be improved. It didn't take long for Marley and I to spot our first victim of the night.......He moved in from the left side of the building and onto one of the rafters where I was able to make a headshot!

Snapshot_16.png

Snapshot_23.png

Through the next few hours I was able to get a few more, some were quite acrobatic and would bounce around vigorously on the shelves before falling off to Marley's retrieval.

Snapshot_29.png

Marley was having a good time and excitedly waited next to me for the next opportunity to run out and grab one, she's a character.

Snapshot_18.png

We had some pretty good action with a few coming in near one right after another, the fact that the rifle was so quiet I think really contributed to our luck.

Snapshot_17.png

We got 7 of them over a few hours that for us is not bad at all for a nights work in the backyard.

Snapshot_22.png

Snapshot_30.png

Snapshot_24.png

After cleaning up our mess we called it a night, we ad a great time and I felt like we put a bit of a dent in our continual problem.....we will be out again in the next week though. This kit worked out really well for us and I really do like the fact that I can use this for such a wide variety of the hunting I do. Here is the video I made of our adventure that gives a bit more details of my setup and a better look at the action.

SOLD $REDUCED$ Weihrauch HW97 KT .22 Cal.

For sale: HW97 KT in .22 cal. It is in like new condition only had for a few months, purchased new. This is the best springer I have ever shot, and it is very accurate. Has never been taken apart or any modifications done to it, all stock. I would estimate about 200 pellets been put through it. Only thing I can find wrong is a small indent on the stock that came this way to me, not very noticeable need to be in the right light to see it. Comes with manual, box and a set of Sports Match rings 11mm dovetail for 1.0" scopes. (HT08C).

Poor financial position aka broke

This is funny to me. I am not going to name the person but when they come back on me with a smart ass remark, you will know who it is. There is an ad for a gun with some add ons that if bought separately would add a good bit to the value of the gun. The would be seller has lowered the package price a good bit from retail as is normal. Who among us buys high and sells higher? The seller indicates they are firm with their price. He advises that you should not cry to him about not having enough money because of whatever. He indicates that maybe you should make better financial decisions rather than buying an air gun in this price range. I submit that the seller should have made a better decision than to invest so much money into a rifle you are not going to keep so you are selling it for hundreds less than you invested. Maybe he is trying to educate others and using himself as an example. Thoughts?

New Hunting rifle

Ok, I am sure this question has been asked in a lot of different forms in the past, but here goes again. I think I know what I want, but want to make sure I am not missing something. It has been about a year since I bought my HW97 in .20 and do love it. Specifically I bought it for Squirrel Hunting. After carrying (lugging) it around for a season, I am thinking I should look for something a little bit lighter in weight. It is giving me about 14-15 ft-lbs, and has been adequate, I feel like a little more energy would give me more confidence of a one shot kill.

So here are some criteria I have in mind: Left handed, 22 cal, wood stock preferred, light weight. Accurate to 60 yards, side lever, 40+ shots per fill. short Length is important since I will be hunting in heavy undercover, and steep hills (Southern Indiana) and I intend to use a moderator.

Then for a scope I usually don't want it to be too powerful for hunting thinking something in the 6x to 8x range. Of course needs to have side parallax adjustable.

My Budget including scope is $2000. I have been looking at Daystate Huntsman Revere, HW110, Air Arms 510. What other decent rifles are out there that fit the criteria?

Hunting season is coming up. Thanks for the input.

Tuning  Taipan Veteran, something different

Hi from France, this is my first post but i've been watching here since 2016.
I bought this .22 VET in 2018 at Balistas (CZ), I quickly understood the quality and performance of this gun.

I also looked for how to adjust the cocking lever system to my preference, with a very low weight, and ridiculous cost.
Taipan takes way too long to come up with a new version, and I finally found the time to work on my garage.
Also, thanks to mtnGhost for his project here and I hope it will succeed soon.

Below this is my mod with custom front lever, perfectly fonctional and it retains the original cocking smoothness.
I just need to rework a new carbon plate to allow location of the lower finger, currently the carbon tube hits with the lower lever part at the end of the travel...
Enjoy.
