N/A  help a brother decide!

whats up up my fellow airheads!?

we're back at it again! you're favorite annoying newbie needs help to decide between 2 airguns! i understand these guns are both not even in the same realm when it comes to their usage. but i need some help on deciding between the macavity ma2 or the airforce talon p. i get that one is single shot and the other is magazine fed. i prefer a magazine. i would also like to add im using a hand pump as an air source. my purpose with this gun will most likely be plinking and small to mid game hunting. Quietness definitely matters to me. i heard the talon p is loud as heck. compactness is a plus. if the talon p was quiet and was magazine fed i would pick it all day. if anyone who has either of these guns want to chime in be my guest. thanks guys!!

  • Question
moderator / suppressor ? How many decibels do they decrease the report on a break barrel air rifle ?

What is a reasonable decrease in the report from a break barrel rifle using a moderator / suppressor ? I have a UMAREX .177 black hawk , sounds like a 22 rim-fire . I live in a residential area and I am worried that I am going to freak out the neighbors . Also will I have to use taller scope mounts with a suppressor ?

FX  FX Impact Mk2: Pop after removing air cylinder

A few months ago I purchased a used Impact Mk2 (.25 cal) with the old Power Plenum and Huma air regulator. The gun shot well and had no major problems until recently. When I tried to increase the regulator pressure from 160 to 180 bar to shoot heavier slugs, the needle on the fx regulator pressure gauge wouldn't move at all. After loosening the regulator screw half a turn, I stopped increasing the pressure and let the gun sit for a while. The needle was still at 160 and nothing had changed. After bleeding the airgun, I set the regulator pressure back to its original position, refitted the air cylinder (filling pressure about 200 bar) and left it untouched overnight. The next day I unscrewed the air cylinder to see what was going on, but there was a continuos resistance to it half the way on the thread. Just before unscrewing the cylinder, I suddenly heard a loud crack like a popping balloon or blown seal from the gun.
After screwing the bottle back on, I checked the pressure gauge on the back regulator valve and it showed a fill pressure of about 100 bar, even the bottle pressure gauge was still about 200 and the regulator was set to 160.

I disassembled the gun and checked all the common seals, but could not find anything unusual. After reassembly, I turned the regulator set screw all the way in and attached the air cylinder. While slowly releasing air into the empty plenum via the regulator set screw, I heard hissing and air coming out of the muzzle, which stopped after the set screw was backed out enough. Even with pressure building up, the regulator gauge remained at 0. I replaced the gauge with a Wika gauge and was able to increase the pressure to previous settings (air still escaping when too slowly released into the plenum). I also found that the bottle valve was leaking slightly when left unscrewed and ordered a new valve as well.

What could possibly be the source of the loud bang, should I be worried or was it just the pressure gauge blowing up?
How can unscrewing a airbottle cause something to blow up in a airgun? (Using only silicon based airgun lubricants)
Is the airleak from the barrel normal on low pressure when refilling an empty plenum? (I checked all O-rings on the valve house/ valve stem no apparent damages)

ShinSung  Shinsung Fire Leak

I'm fairly new to PCPs, and don't know much about their workings.
I have a Shinsung Fire 201 that has a leak that I cannot figure out how to stop. I have checked the o-rings, I have blasted with air to try to seat the o-rings, I have tried filling with it upside down, and I've tried dry firing while filling

it upside down. It's a big leak. Any help is appreciated. Photos attached showing location of leak. (The spot in the circle is just a nick in the metal from removing that pain in the butt end piece.)

JTS  Aircuda Max low PSI

New to the forum. Thanks! A lot to learn, hope this is not an issue that has been beaten to death. My new JTS Aircuda Max will only pump up to 1200 psi. Good for about 4-5 accurate shots. Supposed to max out at 3200 psi, 30-40 shots. No issue with the compressor-with deadhead it hits 3200. Called JTS, no return call. Do I need to return it to Pyramid Air?

FX  Panther magazine issues

New to pcps with magazines and this FX HPC bewilders me as I have never used one in my life.
bought used and found 2 magazines in the case.
one metal and other polymer. Both same size but one is thinner. It seems the clear part top part of one magazine is thicker than the others. I assume it’s for larger longer pellets and slugs, maybe???

My First experience with pcp mags… so the larger one fits perfectly over barrel and in the breech. it does not fall out. HOWEVER, the other one because it’s thinner just goes over the barrel andis smaller in the breech. I do notice when the probe is in or against the mag its held ok???

Then because I wanted to have lower scope I bought an FX mini mag part# 22029. The description in the website says it fits:
DRS/Panthera/Dynamic/King but when I try it on my Panthera its thin. Again it seems that the top part of mag is thinner version. It does not fill the breech area.

Am I loading it incorrectly??? There is nothing in the instructions that talk about different size mags. Can I still use these smaller ones???
Is there adapter I can put In the breech or mag??Is there another clear top part that is taller???

I really want to use the mini mag for scope height
but it looks like the only mag I have that is proper is the polymer large stock mag that fits perfectly in the breech. Can someone explain or know anything about my mag issue.im sorry for asking such a question. I cant even find a video on YouTube about it also.

Beeman  .177 Beeman Chief

Bought one as a project gun. Was not expecting it to sound like a .22 magnum carbine. My god immediate fear my neighbors would call the police. Do any of you in AGN land own a chief, and have you any experience with the available Lane regulator? Is it worth the $85 to regulate? I'm waiting on the buckrail Moderator system to arrive Saturday before I bother clocking the shot curve. Anyone know which pellets it might enjoy?. I've got 10.3jts and baracuda match as well as CPHP 8's .

N/A  Switching to PCP

So, I've decided to switch from break barrel to PCP. long story short, I bought a break barrel (double ordered on accident actually) and i've had nothing but problems with it...
break barrels seem to be too inconsistent and too finicky for me... I'm impatient. I don't want to spend an hour trying to zero in a scope because I have to use a specific rest (sand bags) and use an artillery grip and have to hold the gun the exact same way every time you shoot it so that it shoots consistent... and then the barrel might have play in it so when you break the barrel it might not come back to the *exact* same spot so your shot placement will be off etc etc....

nah... thats too much unnecessary crap for me... I've spent 2 weeks trying to sight in this stupid gamo swarm break barrel and I'm getting sick of it. im wanting to just throw it in the garbage if im being honest. (and not only that it kills my arms after cocking it about 20-30 times.) I'd prefer something a bit easier to shoot with a bit more consistency and accuracy. (plus I'd like to use a rail mounted bi-pod or possibly a clamped tri-pod since i plan on hunting with it).

Initially the only reason i went with break barrel is cause im left handed and i couldnt find many left handed or ambidextrous PCPs. That being said, i recently saw that the Benjamin Armada (Linked here) has a reversible bolt for us south paws and is regulated. I've always heard good things about benjamin n(typically the maurader, but the armada has a under barrel rail and I dont see one on the maurader). BUT I've read some pretty negative reviews about the cartridge and how cheaply made they are... I'd LIKE to keep the price under $800 USD if anyone could recommend a GOOD ambedextrous PCP. Rememeber I'm wanting undermounted bipod and left handed/ambedextrous. semi auto or bolt action is fine. Would also like it to be regulated.

TIA.

Scope + Red Dot

Hi -
I'm Shooting an Umarex Notos .22 - I already own a MidTen scope/red dot/laser combo optic - and I'm alright with it, just while in the process of upgrades of the barrel & plenum in search of the usual goals we all 'shoot' for, I'm thinking ahead to when I'll be hopefully stretching the distance into something that may require more precision & capabilities, just still within a reasonable price range - I'm not shooting .50 cal. sniper rifle at high value targets, by any means. I'm really impressed with the reviews & specs of the UTG BugBuster scope & looks like that'd be a great fit for my purposes - but I'd hate to lose the fast-targeting red dot as I've found it to be super quick and easy for closer range shots.
My question is, aside from the very inexpensive combos like the MidTen or even Pinty with both in one (or laser also), I never see higher end scopes made as combos, which to me, implies it isn't a common thing. Probably for accuracy/weight reasons, just my guess. Given that, does anyone have the same preference of utilizing red dot for 10-20 yd shots in the field for the quick aim & fire it allows, and a reticle scope for more precise longer-range shots? If so, how would you combine the two, either via scope rings with a short pic rail, adapters, etc? Or are my thoughts based on a lack of experience with other optics? I'm doing most of my mods for the very purpose of precision to a distance while opting for lighter, shorter length barrel so it's also capable of the spur of the moment shot in the woods. Any help is greatly appreciated & hope everyone is well. Thank you -

Diana  Diana mod. 250 (two fifty) .177 cal. air rifle

I've just ordered a Diana mood. two fifty air rifle in .177 cal., I understand that it is one of the Diana models that were designed in Germany but built in China, so I'm expecting to receive an heirloom quality air rifle, I am however expecting some measure of quality from Diana's quality control standards.
So, my question is directed to any member here who might have any experience owning or shooting one who might share their thoughts about the rifle and it's performance ?

Anyone need these?

First off let me say that I DID try to post this on Classifieds but the "Create" button didn't seem to want to let me post in the way I've done MANY times before. WTF?!?
Anyone need 1" Dovetail rings, 1" Picatinny, Quick Release rings & 2 top plates for 1" rings? There yours if you pay shipping (which should be minimal). PM me. Trying to clear out EVERYTHING I don't need/use & just want to pass it along to someone who does. Whoever responds gets it all.

Range Finder 5 to 75 yards

Does anyone make a cheap and simple range finger that only measures 5 to 75 yards? I just want something simple because I will never shoot out to 100 yards with my air rifles. Most range finders that I find on the market today are clearly for powder burners and designed to stretch out to 600+ yards. I simply do not need that.

Crosman  Crosman Optimus

Okay, I know what the specs online say and what the Crosman claims on the box BUT, I am not interested in any of that. I want to know what the numbers are in the real world.
Although their advertised FPS in .177 is impressive (with alloy pellets) what are you guys actually seeing when you shoot one through your chronographs? And more importantly, how much power is that coming out to in FT/IBS. AND, what is giving more power? .177 or .22, even if .22 is moving at slower velocities?

  • Question
Umarex  Notos Accuracy

Hi guys - I have a fairly OTB Notos I got a couple months back - I've only made a couple easy mods - Opened up the regulator 1/4 turn, polished the trigger mechanism (super smooth pull now) lowered its tension, and then drove in the hammer spring all the way in. Aside from cleaning with the patch worm and adding a picatinny barrel grip & bipod, not much else is modified. I'm dead nuts around 15-20 yds (My favorite perch is out the kitchen window, at about 20-30 degree angle down to a target setup at 15yds & a 4-panel of targets on plywood out right at 40 yds.) -
Anyhow - I've been tweaking cause i have issues with the 40+ yds grouping. Being dead center at 20, I go out to the 40yd, and first shot nearly always strays - but then I'll have the subsequent shots anywhere but bullseye. It's kind of random, too - around 4" apart from each other, some a bit high, some a bit low, and left or right. I can sometimes see the pellet pop out of the barrel and arc down to the target. I'd hoped by opening up the regulator and hammer spring i'd get more of a shot on a rope, but not the case. It did pretty well suck my air supply down too - I still get about 35 shots in from 3,500psi before it starts hitting red though. I'm shooting Diabolo 18gr pellets, which I read in this thread are the pick for accuracy - and don't think it's the pellet I'm chasing.
Is the gain I'd get from a mod drop block & plenum with an upsized canister enough to be considering as the culprit here? I've seen many posts with 50yds being no problem for guys - so hoping maybe it's just the pressure I need to push a little harder? I did clean the barrel a couple times so far, last time just a couple of days ago. If anyone has some thoughts on it, mods maybe even not requiring purchases I'd appreciate that a lot. Thanks a bunch!
