FX  PCP Airgun Tuning - Why would the FPS go down when increasing the Hammer Spring at a constant reg pressure.

Hi All I have a very early FX Crown (in the first 500 made) It has the 8mm reg piston - I only mention that to date it.

Now I have been out of shooting it for a while and it used to be an good gun and Shot JSB King Heavy MKII’s best at about 800fps and 120bar reg, this was how it came from the factory with a 600mm barrel.

I wanted to experiment with slugs. I watched all the usual Youtube suspects re tuning and got to work practicing on pellets first. In the end I got to about 155 bar reg pressure and had effectively maxed out the HST, on the MAX setting. it was shooting the MKII’s at about 930 fps but it sounded terrible, it wasn’t consistent, or accurate with the extra distance I could now achieve and I realised somewhere down the road I’d turned into a blind alley and this was just not right…

So Ive left the HST on almost Max when it was on MAX on the dial. I then reduced the Reg pressure to 100 bar, to start again. I had a tin of the lighter JSB Kings and started using them to experiment with. With my reg at 100 bar Im getting about 910-920fps with the HST at the “MIN” setting on the wheel.

Now here is what I really cant get my head around, and is making me question what I think I know…

When I keep the reg the same and increase the HST the FPS falls, and it does so linearly in line with the increase in HST so at the “MAX” position on the wheel I get 720ish FPS. Also the sound of the gun changes and becomes quieter and more “dull” less of a pop or crack and more of a hollow “thud”. what is more this is very consistent, if I turn the HST back down I get 920, back up I get 720. its not just all over the place

I thought that HST would increase FPS if every thing remains the same, or at very least it would not increase FPS, but to significantly reduce the FPS??? this makes no sense and I cant fathom how the mechanics of this would play out. I get that increased reg Pressure provides more resistance to HST so you get a shorter open duration on the valve and results in a decrease in FPS, but Im not touching the reg…so what gives

Can someone help me understand why this is? I thought I understood this, well until today!

Regards
SOTL

What is the BC of FX 50.2 grain pellet

I've looked all over online and I can't find the BC of the FX 30 cal 50.2 grain pellet. I need that to enter in the balistics app of my Arken Zulus. I have the velocity at the bench and at fifty feet. But I don't k ow how to calculate it.
Out of 250mm Edgun
703 fps at the muzzeloaders
678 at fifty feet
Any help is appreciated! I'm not a math wiz.

HW/Weihrauch  Hw95 .20 piston seal replacement

Picked up a used 20 cal 95 yesterday in very good condition and came with a few thousand pellets most ftt and a tin of barracudas.
I headed straight to the range and mounted an old nikko stirling I had on another gun and sited in. Barracudas, ftts and jsb all grouped well.
Chronograph showed 7fps variation over 10 shots (699-692) 6 shots were 698.
I noticed it was a little gritty to cock accompanied with a honking noise. Firing cycle very twangy but no loss of sit picture.
Fully stripped the gun degreased an relubed and cocking feels like a completely different gun.
The seal looks worse for wear but is giving really consistent results.

Do I change the seal? If so should I go the red concave seal or green eco seal from custom air seals?

Cheers

FX  New m4 max bar

What is the max bar on the m4 here is what the manual States 5.2 Pressurize
Max overall pressure in system
Singel regulator setup = 250 BAR (more info found in section 8).
Dual regulator setup = 300 BAR (more info found in section 8).
Maxairreservoirpressure:Seemarkingsonairreservoir.
Remove dust-cap (34) Close ventilation screw on the charging source.

So do you need to get a first reg to use a 300 bar bottle?

FX  (Solved) Panthera 500mm liner 177

Hi guys,

I was wondering if I could get some advice or help.

non sub 12

I changed my Panthera compact liner for a 500mm liner. I bought it as a set with apparently a carbon sleeve included.

cleaned the barrel and all installed properly.
The problem is that the 13g Zan slugs are all over the place.
Started with a 90 reg pressure and the power wheel at 13. Micro adjuster at 3. FPS is 922 and a spread of 6 (21 slugs)

I tried many adjustments and the reg pressure all the way up to 140bar. And a fps over a 1000.
nothing seems to make tight groups.

I have no idea what could cause this problem.

i used zan slugs 13g and also tried with jsb heavy’s
these are dead accurate with the compact barrel.

what am I missing here..

thanks

Huben  Regulated vs non regulated air hold ability?

Hi fellas,
quick question,
I was gonna pick up Huben gk1 in .22 but then i found out that these gk1’s are notorious in slow air leaks,
and also Huben is coming out with regulated version of these awesome pcp pistols pretty soon,
i was wondering if slow air leaks have something to do with non regulated systems in these pcp pistols???
thanks.

Tuning  [Resolved] Reasonably priced decibel reader?

Hi all!

I hope you're doing well.

I'm just looking for recommendations for a reasonably priced, consistent dB reader for my Marauder. I figure it doesn't need to be as overkill as an actual firearm decibel test setup, just something inexpensive but trusted off of Amazon would be great.

Anyone here with a solid recommendation based off of experience already?

Thank you!

FX  Wildcat MK3 stoped shooting after heavier hammer experiments

Hello guys. I'm owning wildcat MK3 and everything was perfect until I decided to play a bit with my gun. This is what I did.
I increased reg pressure from 90bar to 110. Installed pin probe and heavier 13gr hammer. After all of this changes the power of my gun increased from around 40 joules to around 57. And here is where strange things start to happen. My power adjustment wheel was not making any difference in velocity speed. Further more, at some point when I played a bit with adjustment screw I got higher velocity on setting 1 than on 7. It should be the other way around. Then I decreased a bit regulator pressure back to 100bar and I switched back to oryginal hammer. Now it doesn't shoot at all. It looks like some air is getting to the barrel. I can hear some air released from barrel when takie probe back from the barrel with cocking lever. To release remaining in barrel slug I installed back the heavier hammer and it shoots back again. I changed to lighter and it's not shooting as the hammer would not have enough power to open the valve. Do you have any idea on what can be wrong?
