Please replace my previous 40yd Masters Class submission with this one.

Wind conditions were mild ranging from near calm to possibly 3 or 4 mph ranging between 9 - 1 o'clock. Biggest issue was waiting for all three wind-flags to point in the same general direction before each shot.

Wrong place to post this?
Can someone please steer me in the right direction?
I have gone through 3 air pistols as I'm constantly adjusting the sights. They seem to move after shooting a few times. I could just scream! Isn't there a pistol that doesn't need so many adjustments? Help? 😭
rsfrid
I think you'll get answers if you post in the correct forum. Hardly anyone checks this one. Try "General".
beerthief
how can you "go through" a pistol just by adjusting the sights ?

later edit : i get it doh!
HogKiller
It's not the sights, it's the gun. You don't state what range you're shooting at. Break barrels, IMHO, only work when both sights are on the moving part, that moving part required PRECISE alignment each and every time, you aren't getting it. Every moving part, especially the hinge needs to be snug enough to hold alignment but not to much that you can't move it, lubrication helps...A LOT, I'd use a light synthetic or Tri-flow, just a drop on that pivot point. I'm going to assume you rested the gun when sighting in to assure maximum stability. Check the rear sight for play, if it moves well there is part of your issue.

I’ve owned quite a few different brands and types and don’t mind helping if you have questions about airguns.

Well, it's been 2 months into my health effort. Glad to say blood work got cleaned up. Sugar and triglycerides are back down to normal. Lost 50 pounds so far. Thank god for Dr. Berry and the carnivore diet. We'll see how far this journey goes. Hoping to take off another 50!
L.Leon
Good for you, definitely drop the weight… My goal is to die skinny…🤓
Peashooter
Carnivore diet sound alluring, i need to / should really drop like 40 kilos. / 88 pounds.
Blood pressure now as good as it can get, was astronomical.
Cholesterol is being fought with pills as i type, but since i started on those no new blood tests, that will happen in April.

Lying down now, no splitting headaches and no nosebleed.
Mr.H
Outstanding! Congrats on the progress.......
Happy birthday to me. Bought myself a new carry knife — a Protech Godson with Olive wood trim and 154CM steel. I put my own polished edge on it with my Wicked Edge sharpener.

Very nice looking...it flows
154 cm is a great steel above avg edge retention
Button lock?? or a liner lock?
Happy Birthday Ross

Happy Birthday…
Finished up a small bowl this weekend and documented it through the process.
Started out with a section of spalted maple that was near too soft to turn.
Inlay1.jpg

Knocked off the corners a bit on the band saw before chucking it up on the lathe and started working to smooth out the bottom a bit.Inlay3.jpg

Inlay4.jpg

After getting the bottom flat, could start to work on the sides.

Inlay5.jpg

Made a tenon...

Inlay6.jpg
and after some clean up to resolve some tear out, turned it around and chucked in the 4 jaw to begin work on hollowing it out

Inlay7.jpg

Inlay9.jpg
Lathered on some sanding sealer quite thick and let it cure for a bit... ended up with a fair amount of free mulch

Inlay8.jpg

Used a parting tool to cut out a channel for an inlay...
Inlay11.jpg

Filled with crushed abalone shells and CA glue.

Did another one as well, but wont bore with the step by step... just the before and after. I still need to do another layer of shell in this one, so it's not completely done.

Need to work on some knives as I'm behind, but wanted to get this wood used before it got too far gone. I have two smaller bowls left from this maple and I'm done with it. This same tree ended up giving me some really nice wood. Here is a couple bowls that came from the same tree I did later last year.

@Mr.H Thank you, sir. Still new at this, only been at it a few years. I did not core those. I got them from A Cut Above Bowl Company. Great folks. I've looked at coring systems and as you noted... $$$ But I did find a reasonable alternative that may work in some situations. I've not tried it yet, but saw this video last week. Richar Raffan Slicer Tool. Check it out

Again, not as good as a 'real' coring tool, but may be worthwhile.
Mr.H
Yeah, I saw that about a week or two ago. Pretty impressive, but on the other hand, he’s been doing it a long long time and he knows what he’s doing. Me on the other hand, i’ve been doing it just over a year, and I am still a rookie, so in my handsthat looks like a dangerous tool.😂
I have this really nice pieceof burl, I could do one large bowl, but there would be a lot of waste so I was trying to figure out how I could get this thing coredIMG_0233.jpeg
Rob_in_NC
@Mr.H Great looking piece of burl! If I may offer some advice to be taken with a grain of salt coming from another newbie... ensure your tools are sharp. I'm sure by now, you've experienced end grain tear out and what a pain that can be. Burl will have a variation of end grain in odd places due to the burling.
Here is a good example of some REALLY bad tear out I had on a piece of Eastern Cottonwood I turned today..
EC Tearout before.jpg

and this is after touching up my bowl gouge. Of note, though, and this did have a hand in the massive tear out... I used a pull cut to rough the sides and a push cut riding the bevel to do finish cuts.

EC Tearout After.jpg

and if you havent learned a shear scraping cut with the wings on a bowl gouge, it's like a magic eraser for most tear out. Can even oil the wood then cut to try to combat tear out.

This is the finished bowl. Eastern Cottonwood was very easy to turn, very light, stinks like rotten dill pickles.... and very prone to tear out.

And it's not even that interesting looking aside from that weird belly button looking thing, but the wood was free.

High end Knives collection. I added another Protech to my high end knife collection. I collect limited run Zero Tolerance, Rick Hinderer XM-18 series and Protech (primarily non-automatics). Today I added a Malibu Bronze Custom with Magnacut Wharncliffe blade and mother of pearl push button lock. These have been out of production for quite a while and I found one tucked away in a local shop. It's the gold colored one on the top in the picture below.

The middle one is a DLT Trading exclusive edition "fish scale" textured handle, reverse Tanto blade in M390 steel and plain button lock.

The bottom one is my only auto Protech — the Tactical Response-2 with textured handles and Magnacut steel blade.

Love the wharncliffe ! A good flipper is just as fast as an auto. Good proportions.
Peashooter
Magnacut seem to be trending these days.
But not seen it used in anything i can afford, but a lot of things i like.
Rob_in_NC
Beautiful knives. I've recently started collecting flippers but for now am staying with the lower end Civivi, Kiser, Damned Designs, and the like. Havent ventured into anything high end
Upgrading my woodworking skills. I’m starting to do live edge slabs, and woodbowl turning. thanks to Rob, for the advice on getting started with the turning.

Rockler close by helps... I have Klingspor about 45 min away, but havent looked at live edge slabs. I suppose I've been looking at the 'lazy' way of doing it forgetting that things have been made flat with a hand plane for a lot of years....
beerthief
look up slab flattening with a router
Also look for local saw mills , a lot of people doing lumber and slab 's at home . I have found a few on Craigs list .
Ezana4CE
@Mr.H Do these slabs come cured (not sure if that’s the correct term)?
I guess this is the best place to put this. Initially I thought I wanted to make and sell moderators as a "side hustle" but I have figured out that I don't really want to do that. I mentioned it in the forums a couple of times though and so now I need to write this.

I don't take "orders" for the moderators I build because I'm not really in the business of selling moderators. I am experimenting and taking orders gets in the way of that process. What I do is list moderators in the classifieds which turned out well, which have been tested and which have brought a smile to the faces of the guys who shoot them. I build them and then I list them in the classifieds after I am done experimenting with them.

Sometimes when I need supplies I build a lot of three or four tried and true tested models which I KNOW work well and put them up in the classifieds. The "Ember" is one such design. Those are no longer in testing. If you see me list any of those in the classifieds they are new.

I hope that helps folks who are asking in the public forums how to get one of my moderators. Please watch the classifieds if you are looking for something. If you want something special (larger caliber, higher energy, odd thread patterns) then send me a note telling me why you think I should build one of those and I'll talk with you about it.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your patience.
Happiness is a warm shop 🧐....

5 months from now, it will be a cool shop 🙄

Indeed.
But running something like there here, would cost you
1 Arm
1 Leg
1 First born child
And you can never speak against " then man " again

And that's just for 1 day of warm shop.

So i freeze.
Powder coating...Shake in coffee container with powder coat. Shake off excess powder coat. Place in oven at 400 f for at least 12 min..Dump in water out of oven to separate... Next step sizing
Peashooter
Normally you charge the powder with electricity from a electrode in the tip of the gun, but another way to do it is friction charge it, basically agitating the powder so it collide with itself and so build up a static charge, just like in a cloud with thunder.
I preferred to use the friction gun, well at least when i had to repairing stuff they messed up on the main line as there was no time to send it around again there.

You can have electric build up on the subject which can make it hard to get the powder to apply even again, but there are also ways to Degauss a fire door or what ever it is you are repainting.

I have seen some ( Chinese ) pretty much just dip stuff in a big vat of powder agitated by air from below,,,,,, you also need this for some 2 component powders so its mixed properly before you spray it, but in automated spray boots that recycle powder air on the powder are also used even if its just 1 component.
This is generally a air pipe that sit below the suction pipe for the powder.

IF things hanging on the conveyor are not grounded properly, and go thru a spray booth with like 8 - 10 guns in it, well the high voltage in the guns tip can actually create a powder explosion.
