N/A  Skout Evo vs Daystate Red Wolf

I have owned both…

Red Wolf - You are talking about technology that is years old, albeit very good technology. Might be best to wait and see what the new rifle is this week… They are great rifles, but the limit of 3 settings does kinda suck. I replaced mine with the Helliboard and it was a big improvement with many more settings to choose from. It would still be nice to have smaller adjustments for weather and altitude and such quickly be able to be made on the fly, but you can program those. The regular programming kinda sucks because it isn’t intuitive and you must buy a programmer. It is a rifle platform, so it gets really long too. I like that it comes with an adjustable cheek, but you do need to add something to allow for a bipod, because you get nothing factory. I found that as long as I didn’t fill over 230bar (even on later models), my ES/SD were MUCH better as it did affect speeds. I still like the rifle, but I wish it came in an affordable chassis and had more settings. I would probably still have one.

Evo - Great company and excellent customer service. I owned the Epoch and the Evo. The Evo looked like it would be the perfect upgrade for me with the slight format change. You can have the 35” barrel and still be shorter than a RW. Accuracy is proving to be stellar on this rifle, as good or better than we saw with RW’s. No addons are required to go out and shoot on a bench, but the longer ARCA is nice. I personally don’t like the newer higher powered reg in the Evo vs the Epoch. I never had issues with the Epoch but the design of the new reg is a bit of a pain. The changes to allow for higher pressures has drawbacks. The leaking issues are just aggravating to deal with, even after replacements of orings and full regs. Seems like most people just work around it. Barrels swaps couldn’t be any easier than how easy they have made it. It can also be had cheaper than a RW.

Because I have owned both and am looking for a new rifle… asking me which I would choose, I choose neither because I can honestly say I have sold both. Hard to say right now what I would choose over either though as they are both at the top best options list. I am having a hard time choosing now as well, and I’m waiting to see what the new Black Wolf is like before making any choices.

Bullet sizing nonsense, AEA and Huben

So, after firing a Huben GK1 Mk II and having it self destruct it came back from the repair shop. Great experience with Kraz, receipt below.

Part of the issue was the .25 ammo was undersized, which had it shooting soft and eventually led to a jam in the barrel. Taking a follow up after the jam was when the magazine release lever flew off.

So, it's been shipped back with 500 AVSslugs .2533 44 grain slugs with a cupped base -- also pictured. These are the smoothest and most precise pure lead bullets I've ever held. First shot on a full tank was 884 FPS!

So, the right bullets make all the difference. Now I want AVSslugs for my AEA SF .30

You can tell AEA guns are made by people that don't know guns. My SF Sniper has 7.62 stamped on it, but actually firing 7.62 /.308 cal slugs led to a nasty jam. They were too big. I don't have tools to slug the barrel, but I read in a comment somewhere that .303 is the way to go and those at least shoot and cycle correctly.

AVS has .303 in four base styles - flat, cup, dish, and cone. I can also get a range of custom weights ranging from 45 grain on out to 100. That's hundreds of variations! I'm not sure how to find the perfect bullet fur my long barrel SF.

I'll update as this progresses. I'm probably going to email the owner of AVS, in addition to asking y'all for advice.
if your shooting slugs the very best money can buy are BARS slugs. https://www.facebook.com/bars.523253#

Brocock/BRK  Brocock Sniper XR Leak

IIRC, as in all airguns with a shroud/ silencer, there's a vent hole just in front of the action, in the shroud to vent air from the tube. That's normal.
I believe it was this.

Did a little backyard testing and it shoots great. Super low ES's and SD's. I think I'm gonna leave the reg set higher. Like the power and the shot count is still more than acceptable. I have a bottle and compressor so air is not an issue.

If I end up getting a more powerful gun and I keep this one, I'll turn it back down towards the factory settings. But for now the power is nice for pigeon hunting and I couldn't ask for better accuracy.

.177 pcp card cutting accuracy pistol??

Good job Dan, I knew you would be cutting those cards!
One thing you might want to try is to shoot off of two bags like my friend is doing in the picture.
I like to use the taller bag in front and then a small squeeze bag in the back with the bottom of the pistol grip bedded solidly on the small bag.
It’s incredibly stable and really easy to keep the crosshairs from moving using the two bags.
She had never shot any kind of gun before and she was doing five shot groups inside of a dime at 20 yards.
The smile couldn’t be wiped off her face lol!
The pistol is a HW44 .177, but the 1701 will be the same.

Ataman  Ataman m2r bullpup fill probe..

Oring size ....I have a probe that's leaking. I think it might be the same size as a cricket but I'm not sure on that either .
Do you have a digital caliper that reads metric as well? Just pulling one off carefully and measuring the ID CS and OD would be the best way. I don't think Ataman list any parts diagrams online.

Stoeger  Experience with older Stoeger XM1 S4?

One good thing I can say about this rifle is that it holds air. It’s been sitting unopened in the stock room at Everhart’s for 4-5 years, and it still had about 2k psi in the tube. Fired a few shots, seems pretty fast and hard hitting with the heavy EJ domes. I just ordered a hand pump from Walmart for $33 altogether. So altogether I have maybe $200 in this rig, including a fill source and scope 👌

Events  Ultimate Field Target @ PRGC on 02/22/2024

I want to thank everyone for showing up and shooting. I hope all had a good time. I try to make the course fun and challenging to all skill types. I apologize for the couple of rotted ropes that broke I try very hard to stay on top of that kind of thing. I will be picking up ropes today and replacing lane #1 far target rope. I went 8 or 9 matches without a cold line:(, and my streak starts again.

New FX product

how many times do we think FX will put a new fur suit on an old pet and tell us a NEW AND EXCITING GUN is going to be released?
This just reinforces the fact that FX’s R&D dept has become the Hollywood of the air gun industry. The Dynamic platform is starting to look like the Fast and Furious franchise. And like F&F the guns just keep getting dumber and less entertaining.
This coming from an ardent FX shooter. Somebody needs a boot up their backside. This Schtick is getting old.
Didn't the Panthera just come out in 2022? I don't think that Dynamic platform has been around long enough to get bored with it yet. Not to mention that they brought out the DRS platform after that. In my opinion the FX design team has been very busy bringing out new and interesting products and then giving us minor variations on each one.

Tuning  Help with Impact M4 700mm Tune

Alright, reporting in. Spent the day again shooting. I feel like I was able to make actual progress today. I followed the steps described here, in the vids, and also called up Utah Airguns and they helped walk me through some stuff as I did it.

I got my reg at about 125. I saw the best groups at the 900-ish fps range. I was able to use the micro wheel and then the valve adjuster to get the groups down to about a nickel or slightly smaller at 50 yards. Honestly for ground squirrels that would have been fine. But then I moved the target back to 75 yards and the groups were the size of the palm of my hand or slightly smaller. So that was not fun. Was almost ready to throw the rifle into an active volcano right then and there.

I ended up shooting through all my JSB pellets. But I had a full tin of AEA’s so I figured what the hell, can’t hurt to try those and see. BOOM all of a sudden I’m getting nickel sized or smaller groups at 75 yards with the AEA’s! Every once in a while a group would open up to about an inch or slightly more (no wind today so I don’t know why) but for the most part I was seeing good performance from the AEA’s. I think my gun maybe just doesn‘t like JSB’s.

I also noticed that with JSB’s I had an ES of 17.6 (with 25 shots) but with the AEA‘s I had an ES of 9.2 and SD of 2.something. So I’m gonna order a bunch of AEA’s and try to tune for those next week after this upcoming rain passes.

900 fps seems to be good, but I’m reading that a few people have seen good performance at 960 with the 33.9 grains. I’ll take pics of all my current settings and maybe try to see what AEA’s do at 960 if I can get there. It seems that I will need to work the reg up to about 140 for that. I’ll report in again after I get a chance to do so.

I wanna thank everyone here that’s replying and offering advice to help me. If any of you happen to come to the Sacramento, California area I will buy you In-N-Out Burger or something else for lunch as a thank you! This is a great forum.
Awesome 👏 I’m glad you were able to make it click and made some progress with it! Sounds like you are on the right path! I would encourage you to try more ammo as well. Grab some small tins of a handful of different types and do the same process for each one and find what works in your gun. Each gun is slightly different.

Either way glad you kept at it and got some results! Now that you got to this point, you should have no trouble repeating the process 👍 have fun!

Daystate  Daystate Revere .177 regulated tuning

Hey Guys! I bought a used Daystate revere .177 regulated from AoA. It shoots great, and overall a nice rifle to use. That being said, I do have a question about the shotcount. The regulator on mine is set to 160 bar, and from 250 bar, I get probably ~45 shots until I hit about 150 bar. (untested, need to actually do a shotcount one of these days). The numbers from AoA when they sent me the rifle: 5 shots, spread of 7fps, SD 2, minimum fps of 850 and max of 857, with a 10.3gr pellet. So about 16.52 to 16.8fpe.

I was wondering if this is infact, factory specs, or if I need to adjust the regulator or whatnot. My goal is to have ~19.5fpe with maximum shotcount. I feel that the regulator is a bit high for this powerlevel, but this is my first regulated gun.

If anyone has any experience tuning a revere regulated, please feel free to reach out :)
Yeah, you need to check the regulators set-point. Depending on barrel length, .177 requires between 110/125 bar. I can’t imagine any .177 cal. needing 150 bar 😵‍💫, unless the barrels extremely short (not OEM).

Sounds like these are .25 settings/specs.

Only one way to find out …. do some tinkering.

With optimal regulator, valve, transfer/barrel porting, hammer spring settings you s/d able to get 60/70 shots per fill👍.

N/A  Haenel III

I mis-spoke a bit! As you can see in the VAG pics, there was also a non-repeating version of the Haenel model 5; and a smaller model 5 Junior in plain and repeating variants.

The model 5 was a "normal" half-stock version of the same basic action used in the Haenel model 4 underlever, a quarter-stock underlever tap-loader looking much like the classic BSA's. All are lovely, rare and highly desirable collectibles. There was a repeater version of the model 4 too.
