It was gusty and cold today but shooting from inside my heated shop was quite comfortable. Wind was blowing from about 3 o’clock.
.177 just can’t handle the wind like the .25 can but even with no wind the Marauder isn’t as accurate as the Impact. But of course the Impact should shoot better, it was 5 times the price of the Marauder (or so).
All groups were shot at 25 yards. My .177 is my Benjamin Marauder and the first target, 2nd target is my FX Impact M3.
Smallest group was .71” with a H&N Barracuda Match (I wrote SP for Silver Point, that was a brain fart) but the other group is 1.6” They shot very well yesterday, better than the JSB.
JSB Exact Heavy was the most consistent with groups of .925” and .824”
H&N Silver Point were both 10 shot groups 1.85” and 1.59” These I was just shooting to see how far down I could take my pressure and wasn’t considering them for hunting. Neither group would have been much better if just 5 shots.
The Beeman HP 7.1gr group at the top of the page is for real… I should put these straight in my casting pot. Waste of everything shooting them.
From the top:
JSB Hades .507” .393” .431”
FX 25gr Hammer Wheel at 8 .658” .244” .403” .357” and one group with Hammer Wheel at 16 .193”
(one shot wide of the left most group was the last pellet in my mag and I was starting a new group)
FX 34gr Hammer Wheel at 8 .307” .356” 1.01” (I don’t know if I pulled the high wide left shot or a gust of wind hit it) .215” HW at 16
I had the hammer wheel on 8 because the 24gr were shooting best at 30 yards on this setting.
The 34’s were shooting best on HW 16 at 30 yards and I forgot to set it there when I shot the first 3 groups.
No wind when I was shooting at 30 yards a couple of weeks ago.
Today, with gusty wind, both pellets shot better with the hammer wheel at 16. I don’t know how much that’s affecting velocity other than it’s slower on 8. I have a Chrony and it’s a pita to setup when shooting from my shop so I’m not using it there. I really need to get an FX and hang it on my barrel, I could use it all the time then.
Sure wish I could use my 25 caliber Impact for hunting squirrels!
I guess I just need to practice more with the .177…
