Another Atomic XR post & Moderator change

Hi All,

Getting new Atomic dialed in for my needs. Mods to date: Added external hammer spring adjuster, swapped out the short 0db moderator for a STO Falx (no POI shift whatsoever) and swapped out grip for a Magpul.

Only thing really need to do now is put a ball head on the BOG and an Arca plate on the Atomic Picatinny rail.

It is partial to Hades pellets and pretty accurate if I do my part.

You could try an air stripper if loudness isn't an issue. It will no doubt improve consistency of shots.

Thanks @rsfrid - both accuracy and quietness are key as I am located in an older residential neighborhood. It is legal to shoot airguns in my County but I don't necessarily wish the neighbors to know I am doing so.

It shoots fairly well with the Falx (yesterday off cheesy table / 40' weather)

Hi @L.Leon - primary purpose is to rid my yard of an EXCESSIVE overpopulation of squirrels. Crazy neighbor lady has dumped seeds/peanuts/table scraps on her front porch for the past 5 years (neighbors have complained, yada, yada). Consequently we are overrun by tree rats and they are causing a lot of destruction (power company came out 3x last year to replace transformer ground wires).

The Atomic has really pulled its weight over the past month...

Those squirrels better relocate because the Atomic XR is deadly, as you’re experiencing. Mine has been stellar. Chipmunks at 50 yards are in serious jeopardy. I’ve shot mine out to 102 yards… just plinking though. My Atomic has become my de facto primary airgun. That’s how sweet it is to me.

Thanks @L.Leon, I have enjoyed your pesting posts. I have some pretty strict, self-imposed, rules of engagement due to my neighborhood and my shot opportunities lie between 10-20 yards.

This is my first air rifle and I'm quite pleased with it (although it takes two washers and almost up to max setting on the external hammer spring adjuster to bring it to 700fps).

I watched AEAC tuning and review of the Atomic. He said 1 washer and HS at minus 30 to get 704. I wonder what the differences are or changes they made.

Right, I started with one washer but could not get to 700 fps (Mine needed 2 washers). IIRC, I thought the hammer itself had a screw could be adjusted in or out to hit valve differently so perhaps my hammer adjustment differed from AEAC’s Atomic?

I no longer have it so no way to check further.

@Erdb, is/was sending 16 grain Hades. Mine is doing 725 fps with 14 grain CPHPs, stock, right out the box.

That’s good info to know Luis. Did you get the external HS adjuster with yours?

No. I might consider it at some future point, but for my uses the TP adjustment gives me what I need. It would be a mistake to try and squeeze maximum power and range from the Atomic XR. I accept that for me, it’s a 60 yards and under pesting rig. Plinking? As far as I care to lob them.
