Scope help please.

I just got this Crosman 760-C. I dug out an old Marlin Micro-vue 4x scope that I have. I've never had the scope mounted to anything. Figured I might as well use it now,,,lol. Would this be considered an ok scope for the 760?

I have run into a bit of a snag though. I can not get the front bell off the scope to put the front scope ring on. And the scope really needs to move back. I fear if I use any kind of tools on it it will damage it. Could I maybe heat up the threads with something? I assume a micro torch would affect the bluing? What about a soldering iron? Or should I not use ANY kind of heat?

What would you guys suggest. Or I guess I could just use the rear ring,,,lol. I've seen people do that but I think it looks goofy.

Thanks for any input.

The soldering iron is an excellent idea. It won't affect the blueing. I'd dab the screws with penetrating oil, too.

That scope should be just fine for that gun. There are a lot of other cheaper scopes that work quite well, too.

Luck,

The screws are fine. Just to be clear. I'm talking about the front tappered part. I think it's called the bell?

So still good to heat it up??

Yes, that's called the bell. No, don't heat it up and don't try to take it off because you'll ruin the scope that way. It's not supposed to come off. That scope's a collector's piece.

I'd find a cheap scope and rings and use them instead. $30 at Walmart should set you up.

If got scopes.like that.
Where the turrets are held on is a screw. Take it out verrrryyyy slllooowwlllyyy and carreefullyy while holding the turret set. It's sort of spring loaded in then so release tension slowly. Then once the screw(s) Are out you can remove the whole turret adjustment tower which will allow you to move the scope ring(s) in front of that or wherever you desire. Putting it back together is tricky as well. I line up one side(usually top) then insert screw a thread or 2 line up side turret, slightly hold pressure and tighten screws very slowly and not very tight really. Should be good to go after that. Hope that helps_/is understandable 🎩🤙

Agree,
Checked Walmart website, they've a few for $10-15 (with rings) that'll fit perfectly, save that vintage scope. WM

Problem is id assume looking at that scope it seems like its the old small 3/4" tube.
2 years ago you could easy get them, but today ???

Like you i thought walmart had them for the bb/pellet gun scopes that comely came on them ..

Then looking the 3/4 tube scopes out there today the rings look factory installed / not easy removal.. look how these 2 are

Or

You pull the eye piece or somthing you lost the nitrogen fill in the scope , so??

Yeah, doubt those rings are removable. Walmart website lists a few in the $10-15 range, with what appears to be fixed rings, didn't try to purchase, assume something along those lines is available. WM

This was the right answer.

Actually I went on the Marlin owners forum and found my old posts from when I got this scope. I was trying to get the front ring OFF then,,,lol.

I just pulled the turret off and put it back on.

I do have a follow up question. I've never shot or loaded this gun with bb's. On the top of the dove tail where the scope ring clamps down, there is a gap between the 2 half's of the receiver. I'm sure it's suppose to be there. I assume it's a channel the bb is following when loading? Is that correct. The problem is when I tighten the scope ring down onto the rail it closes that gap underneath the scope ring. Is that going to be a problem for the bb to get through?

I'm going to Wally World now to get some bb's.

I think the scope looks good on there. If it doesn't work out at least i know how to take it off and on now,,,lol.

That gap on top of the reciever is supposed to be there. It's your indicator that BBs are present and ready to be loaded by the bolt. You'll want to loosen the scope screws just enough to let the BBs pass through. The original 760s had metal receivers, so that wasn't a problem.

You load the BBs through the gate on the left side of the receiver. The rectangular, flush button there will open up if you push on it with your finger and you can pour the BBs in.

You can find the manual for it on the Crosman web-site.
