How to tell which batch on a new Umarex Notos?

Is there some way to tell which Notos production "batch" you are buying? I am seeing references to the later production models having some improvements with the trigger and accuracy, perhaps other things as well. Is there a serial number range that is definitely a later batch? If so, please post some serial numbers. I have a line on a new one at a great price, but no clue how when it was made and would like one from the newer batch if possible if I will end up with an improved gun.

I'm just speculating when I say possible improves, I have nothing concrete. Just going off things I've read to my own experience. Some say the notos isn't that loud, it's the quietest 20 fpe gun I've ever heard. Not joking. I've had Niel Clague, DonnyFL, Mrod shroud setups with 10 baffles, and my 10 baffled hatsan flashpup. The pup was the closest, but this is still quieter. Both report and mainly the action.

It's a bit louder shooting the 14 grains vs the 21s I'm using, but I want a quiet hammer. I'm thinking about trying polymags to even further the energy dumps at 20-30 yards, but the report will surely go up with the velocity boost of 5 grains lighter ammo.

As for the trigger, I don't feel any grit or course spots, just a heavy break but predictable. I read a few posts when they first came out that they were gritty triggers. Wobble is non existent when the sear is locked up, just a bit of wobble when it's not cocked.

I would think since they were sold out for a few months, that anything you get now would be second batch.

They might be exactly the same, and I'm not being critical like everyone else was with these things. I dunno, but get one, they're a blast and worth more than you'll be paying. I've considered a second to push it to higher power amongst other mods. This one is on side door guard duty, sitting in the garage.

The Notos on Pyramyd Air is a 13 fpe gun

Almost every video I've seen puts them at 18-20, depending on pellet weight.

Mine is doing 765-770 with 14.3s, and around 700-710 with jsb 18s. Haven't shot the 21s over the chrony yet, but I'm sure they're doing 19-20 fpe. I'll check tomorrow.

I have one from the first batch. The trigger was a bit gritty when I first got it, but filing down the point of the trigger adjustment screw cured that. here are the chrony numbers the the pellets I have tested thus far in mine:

I did 3D print an extended baffle for mine and it made it even quieter!

What were the measured DB levels with and without the new insert.?

Looks great FLgunner!

It’s most unlikely Umarex changed anything but then again you never know. Mine would be a first batch and it’s pretty good. If I come off shooting my Mrod the Notos trigger isnt superb nor super quiet ( .17 mrod is quiet )

The Notos is a great carbine that fights a few weight classes above it’s own. Trigger breaks predictably, it’s quiet And very accurate. Amazing little pistol carbine. I’m enamored

I have no idea and don't have a way of measuring the sound level other than my uncalibrated ears! But, it sure sounds quieter to me! ;)

As others have pointed out, you stopped reading/ researching too soon on the PA site regarding the Notos. On the Notos ad page, there is a video review by Tyler Pattner(?) that gives data on velocity, accuracy, trigger pull weight, and sound level.

My gun shoots between 18-20+ fpe, depending on which pellet weight class you choose. It is not quieter than my Prod with a 0dB 110mm suppressor, trigger is not even close to the Prod, but it shoots a 16 gr. pellet 60 fps faster than the Prod shoots a 13.2gr. pellet, 20fpe vs 14fpe. It shoots the 13.2gr. 100fps faster.

Adjusting the trigger screw didn’t seem to do much, if anything. Adjusting the hammer spring didn’t do anything. I ran the HS adjuster up two full turns, 1/2 turn at a time, and back 1/2 turn below factory setting and the velocity chronographed virtually the same within experimental error, 5 to <10fps. I’m back to factory with exactly three magazine shot count.

The Notos I received recently is a keeper. I have shot some groups at 15 and 35 yards that equal the accuracy of my FX M3 and Uragan 2 with several different pellets that tend to shoot well for me - JSB Jumbo Heavy, Meisterkugeln and H&N Premier Field Target. It also likes the CPHPs which for me is an absolute requirement on a lower priced gun. If it won't do well with the CPHP, I don't want to own it. My serial number is in this range: 23232199550179XXC.

More info on my Notos thread. https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/geezerhoods-notos-thread.1291960/

30 shots with CPHPs at 15 yards from a single fill.

7 Shot tests at 15 yards with 4 different pellets.
