My wife put a half water melon at my 20 yd mark. It’s been there almost a week. Does it ever attract Horse flies, House flies and wasps. Before lunch I nailed 35 flies and 7 wasps. A new record for me.

Some only got wounded, missing antenna, close shave, missing a few legs, what a blast, revenge.

Must have been good water melon, helped him digest it.
‘The machine that did all the damage….HW50 black .177. Put a Vortek spring in this puppy. JSB 8.44 grain. Deadly combo.

I actually got the idea from a member on this forum to shoot bugs. Love it. There is so much satisfaction. Flies land on the rocks around the melon, big mistake.
The melon is always working. When ever I see it getting busy, walking or drive by, blackie is near by. Doesn’t take long to clear them out. Crow
Any of you have any inventive ideas to attract these pests?

I do bugs quite a bit.
Yellow jackets with fish carcasses.
Wasp in the pool with Red Ryders
Flying Capenter bees with the Red Ryders.
Wasp where ever they land with a clear background with what ever I have in my hand.
Next I'll try water melon.
👍

Try a can of cat food! Hornets love that stuff. Of course it's be a shame if a neighbor's Muffy got in your way. LOL

I was climbing up into my tree stand one 0-dark-30 early am and I put my hand down on a bunch of sleeping hornets. We all got to tussling and I dropped my small flashlight before I could call a draw to the fight. Needless to say it was a very painful morning sit as I was stung several times. I also lost my coffee Thermos which fell out of my pack and I didn't want to climb back down and retrieve it or the flashlight. All I saw that morning was a few tree rats BUT it was still a memorable hunt. This is the stand.

Crow the back of that melon must have some serious ventilation going on. Watch out for ricochets.
Gary
Thanks. I took your advice and threw some plywood up. Crow

The Mellon is turning into a pan cake.
Yeah you might die from a bb gun ricochet.
Our worse break a window. Crow
Sounds fun. Watermelon on our next camping trip for sure, maybe even in our back yard. No cat food! Let's not entice a pet to get stung.
The more rotten the fruit the better. Any fruit will work. I just went and took this picture. Easily 20 on it when there. Non stop shooting. Crow This is easily my favorite target.

I smeared juices on the boards behind. Crow

Thanks for sharing. I had something similar back in the 80’s. Crow

Nice hornets nest at 25 yards from patio, I’m thinking about putting a Crow special attract in place. Thanks for the idea Crow!
👍. Put some plywood behind and smear with melon or syrup. Bring lots of ammo. Good luck
All together I shot 130+ flies and 15 wasps. Wicked
Went out end of day to rip some lip. Crow
hmm i have a piece of watermelon , been in the fridge since b4 Fla trip .
Last three days were insane, covered in bugs. Must be an expiry, because today nothing. So don’t let it sit too long, Crow

I am having the deck re-done , and i shoot under the screen porch ,under the deck ,then out to 48 yards . But since their are workers doing the deck i can't shoot normal , so ill slide the water mellon down the slope and shoot what ever lands ! Thank your wife for the idea. Stan in KY
