FX Fx Compact .30

Is the compact version worth getting for slugs? I currently run a .22 700mm with 700cc bottle, 720 plenum, powerblock, and I'm running javelin 30gr v2 at 960fps. But this gun is long as **** for me, and I'm started to get annoyed with the weight.

My idea is to get a 500mm .30 cal barrel and run a dual 300cc bottle. It may still be weighty but it'll be more compact and manageable for me.

I've read post of some of y'all having issue running slugs with the .30 or at least the .30 hybrids and needing specific speeds. So given that 500mm may cap me at about 940fps with the 50gr, am I better off getting the 600mm barrel or will the 500mm be more than enough?

Judging by the picture you posted for some reason, I take it you hunt iguanas. Do you think jumping to a 50gr .30 caliber bullet is a good idea or even remotely necessary in the environment you guys hunt those things in? If you’re tired of a long as **** gun, stick to your plan with a .22 barrel. Innocent bystanders and property will be safer and you’ll have less to worry about. I’ve shot .30 slugs and compared to my M3 .22 slugger, it’s a big difference and flat out dangerous. You might as well be shooting a .22 rimfire real gun.

I have different guns for different environments. This particular .22 is used in long distance environments where the nearest house is either several hundred yards in either direction, or nowhere near me.

My experience with 500mm barrels and slugs is that it can be done. Results were always a compromise. Not the best accuracy and the velocity limits kept fpe in the low range that will have you wondering if the gain over pellets is worth the effort. In my case it was not and went back to shooting pellets in my compact.
Also, why would you go with two 300cc tanks? Between the weight of the bottles and the weight of the adapter you aren’t going to be shaving enough weight to worry about. Maybe try a 580cc bottle? You are only off by 20cc and you wont even notice the difference in shot count.

I just wasn’t sure if you ever shot a wicked slug gun. Your current gun is just a little under that. I have two slug guns that I will only shoot in an environment that I would shoot a .22 long rifle. It’s my .25 shooting a 34gr slug 1,045fps and my RTI shooting a .30 slug at 925fps. The difference between them and my .22 shooting 940fps is substantial enough to earn way more caution. I understand the whole progression with guys, guns and killing stuff. We want to kill stuff even deader when we get bored with our current killing machine so we go bigger and badder. Sure, there will be ooo’s and aaaws when you start blasting lizards with a .30. But there could be sirens and investigations if one of those heaters gets away from you. Lecture over. Just think about it and don’t ruin a good thing if that’s what you’re currently enjoying.

I had a maverick sniper .30 pushing hybrids at 105 fpe and ended up not liking the length so swapped to compact .30. I was able to get into the 90’s fpe wise but would only get about 1 mag worth of shot on the 300cc bottle. You can run the 580cc bottle with the 500mm barrel and a tanto just fine. She was still laser accurate at 100+ yards with hybrids

My biggest thing is expansion, I plan on using Varmint knockers which I have tested for most calibers will expand even at a rather low FPS. If I can get them to shoot at a decent speed I'm alright with that. The reason for during 2 300cc bottles? I already have a 300cc bottle, and I prefer the look of 2 300cc bottles over a 580 with a 500mm barrel.

I understand your concern but I think you're still misunderstanding me. My gun at the current set up, is going faster than what I would want to sling .30 cal slugs at. Granted I understand that even with that being the case, the .30's will produce more energy. I intend to use slugs that have considerably less BC than what I am getting now at .109 and at a considerably lower speed.

If I wanted a power slug gun I wouldn't even be asking about the 500mm barrel. I've used .35 cal leshiy classics, .30 uragan, talon tunes airforce ss condor .30, aea hp max .35, bobcat .30 all to shoot iguanas in secluded areas. I would never use them in or around the public area with people or property around, I appreciate the concern though.

Yeah, I think that's what the impact is capable of doing with the 500mm, I just wasn't 100% sure, for some reason I haven't been able to find the power figues for the compact. Everything I go look on UA or FX airguns they onky give the standard and sniper barrel figures.

Yeah the impact should be capable of 90’s with a 500mm. My maverick had the Huma tuning spring, Huma heavy hammer weight and v2 dual hole transfer port
