Tree rats everywhere!

Got to my spot about 630 this morning. Immediately saw multiple targets in the trees. Bagged one within a couple minutes of settling in. The second one was a 60ish yard shot and it dropped onto a nook of the tree it was in and I couldn't recover it. 3rd was a face thru shoulder shot about 25 yards.

I recovered my 1st and 3rd. and settled back in. About 30 minutes later I landed two playing grab ass around a trunk of a maple. Hit one with a spine shot from the back and it fell Immediately, and the other went around the trunk and stopped with its left side towards me. I smoked that one in the face too. Both of those went into the the thicket at the base of the tree and I couldn't retrieve those either. I knew better with how thick it was, but I could resist. They both died and I'm sure a fox or coyote will find them soon enough.

Here are the two I could get to.

Trees are full of them barking, I'm going to stay for a bit longer and see if I get a few more, but they're definitely on to me now.

I did also get a good head shot on a fat sparrow too. Just to pass the time lol.

Go enjoy these last few weeks of good weather guys!

I hit them hard in the spring this year, and a little after the second mating period. I’ve had a new rifle for 2 weeks and haven’t seen a squirrel haha
I thinned out the herd this spring myself, but this morning was just crazy. I could've bagged out had I been more patient with my shots and stand a couple more hours. I got 3 last night at my buddy's place, so 5 should do for a good meal with some sides.

lucky to see one or two a day not worth shooting 8 OZ or less . south central KY
That sucks man, they're my favorite hunt now, they keep you on your toes. I'd prefer rabbit to eat, but I don't see many around here during the day and I'm too lazy to stay up and go at night.

Good shooting. I got two today using the R9, I'd post a photo but they were a bloody mess. So far this year I've killed 21 along my back fence, I'm hunting an area that is only about 500 feet long and 15 to 25 feet wide with a small ditch running down it (usually dry). I think it helps that I back up to some conservation land that is shotgun only.

I don't currently have any stringers, but I do like their simplicity. Too long and loud for my taste, but if I ever come across a BSA Lightning, I might snatch it up. 12-16 fpe, 38" long, and comes with a silencer.

Good hunt, and good shooting. I shot a squirrel back in the spring about 40yds out that fell into the nook of a tree as well. Too high to recover. Took a break and came back out to see a hawk grabbing it and flying off. Gotta love how things work out sometimes.
I specifically make sure my guns will do full pass thru at my hunting distances, in case I have a run off and a raptor gets ahold of one. So far my 25 carbine in the pic will pass thru at 50 yards on a squirrel with 36 fpe at the muzzle, and my 25 rifle went right through a squirrels chest and out its hips around 70 yards, but that one's putting out 55 fpe now.
