Another bites the dust

I lube my springs every 1000 shots.
The chambers gets twos drops of chamber oil every 500.
Ya,know I try to take mine down to clean and freshen .. I get a lot of dirt/ dust under the wood and can work into the action .. that's not a bad policy to do.

Saddly I can suffer from lazy bones syndrome time to time ..

ARE YOU .... using these springs on the STOCK GUIDE ? ( As in a Very loose / sloppy fit )
OR ... on a nice snug fitted spring guide ?

Secondary vibrations or oscillation of the spring post shot creates a LOT of metal fatigue & a BIG REASON to use a snug fitted spring guide ;)

On your next spring, you may want to try lubing it.
Compression springs in an air rifle are like the valve springs in your car.
Those springs operate 1000s of times per minute yet do not break.
Oil.
Lube the spring!
Number of cycles is only one variable in spring longevity. Springer mainsprings are over-stressed to a ridiculous level by engineering standards, which unavoidably means a drastically shortened life compared to other coilspring uses, with or without lubrication.

This spring was a fight to slide on .. the others were darn tight , this last one was a pain but went ..

What's the term used " nail tight". Well no problun there

Matter of fact getting the broken spring off the guide is about a equal fight ..lol

Oh well it's st looks like my use and shot count abuse as the reason .

It's not like a high ticket item that's hurting the bilfold ( then spending a penny makes me cringe).

You figure if I'm able to shoot everyday and I shoot 10m, 20,30,50, 20 shots each + whatever can or steel that's easy a 80-100 shot day . Like I said a 500 count tin is about 10 days worth ..

So I'm just going with spring fatigue .
You can only bend back and forth a wire so much before it snaps in 2.

Put side of the spring life I guess I could not ask for a better , I could if selfish I guess . Consistent fps, groups well, smooth action , only noise it makes is the click breaking the barrel , the click of the piston on the trigger and the snap of closing the barrel ... Butter smooth.. till I get that one cock and hear that snap on the tube ..lol

Here's the seal face out of it .. looks as good as when new. . not a mark or scratch on it easy 8000-12000 shots on it if not more.

P.s..

I should add that guide tightness is also a preset "shragged" spring I set for 12 hrs +/- before install.

Now its a twittle thumbs till the new one arrives...

Ya, they get shot as much on days , I still need a pump and probe to reflate the hatsans rams up ..lol this last cold morning they lost pressure overnight .. that was in the cart then this happen too boot..lol

Gamo needs a seal but it's a overseas item it seems ( cas) ...

Please forgive the diversion, where do you get gammo seals...they don't seem too eager to sell parts
thanks

What Gamo seals do you need? Gamo USA sells breech seals in their accessories section. ARH and Vortek sell 25mm piston seals for "standard" models. Custom Air Seals of Australia sells piston seals for the big "33mm" guns, seals are actually 29mm. 33mm is actually the compression tube outer diameter. There are two variants of those, one press on fit (newer) and the other for older/original big Gamo's (I believe).

If you or have a buddy with an FFL, supposedly Gamo will sell parts then. Maybe do a group order or buy extra as I'm sure folks will be interested in obtaining piston seals...

If that 33mm tube seal it's Australia from custom air seal. ( 2 types , blue, or yellow depending on the model )

I read a post where a guy brought up something funny to think on

Why if you need a federal firearms license to buy a simple piston seal from gamo , but you can buy all there guns anywhere without one ?

I looked at that and thought ya, putting it that way sure makes gamo even more silly on parts ..lol

Thanks Zack I'll check it out.....seals for CFX (a gamo remake of the BSA superstar). The last time I had checked gamo refused to sell parts.
There pretty much sticks in the mud on self fixing there stuff.

(Bsa Superstar ) ( odd looking seal)

(Cfx)

arh usa shows fits cfx
Now that uk shop shows it's a 26.5mm / 1.00in seal
so if me id probly add this one as a just in case you can always fit down

Maybe some info here on that are seal use

Just to add the hornet springs I got this time are the " latest" and there different then the hornet spring I been getting ..

I was kinda sceptical like I am most times something good changes but I got to say this latest hornet spring is working out good . I kinda thinking I may like it better . So far can't complain ..

Old had compressed coils the " latest' don't . Also funny the Id is a bit larger .

Overall the " latest" spring seemed to go together a lot smoother and shoots great ..

Go figure ?

Latest top..
