Hatsan Jet 2. Complete POS.

I just got a chance to shoot this yesterday and a little bit today and I’ve got to say I am blown away by what a complete and utter turd it is.

Where to start? Well the muzzle threads don’t align with the bore for one. It doesn’t matter what moderator I put on it, I get baffle strikes with them all and approximately 4” groups at 10 yards. And it’s not just a matter of using a slightly oversized mod. I’m already using a .30 mod on a .22 gun. It doesn’t end there though. Even if it weren’t clipping pellets the front and rear optics rails are approximately 1/16” out of alignment with each other. So when you mount a scope on it it will always shoot way too low even with the elevation maxed out. The front rails not a real picatinny rail either and the part that is supposed to accept picatinny mounts is very short. It may appear to run the full length, but most of that is actually an 11mm dovetail with picatinny style slots cut in it.

It’s a long, long way from being backyard friendly as well. Without a moderator I’d compare it to a .22lr shooting subsonic ammo. The pistol grip is way too small for my hand as well. My pinky overhangs the bottom of the grip and the deepset finger grooves in no way fit my fingers. Now I am 6’1” and stocky so take that for what it’s worth, but I would guess that if you’re at all bigger than average you probably won’t find the grip fits you either.

From what I can tell, it doesn’t have a shot curve to it, (well maybe if you gassed it up to 300 bar). When you fill it up to its max pressure it just loses a little velocity with every shot. I decided initially that given its small size and air volume I’d consider its shot curve to be good over a 50 fps spread. As it turns out that was 17 shots. And I could actually live with that. There may not be a decent shot curve, but the velocities were reasonably consistent for the first 14 shots or two magazines worth and my gx compressor fills it back up in about the same time it takes to reload the magazines.

All in all just an extremely disappointing gun and one I would strongly advise everyone to avoid. I got mine at the midway clearance price of $190 after tax, but honestly I wouldn’t advise you to buy it unless it was under $100 and you were buying it as a project that you knew you would have to fix straight out of the box.

I have a Jet 1 in .22 and a Jet 2 in .25. Other than low shot count and underwhelming velocity, both at pretty accurate at 20 yards. I like how easy they can go from a pistol to a carbine. I have not had any issues with pellet clipping whth a moderator either. Sounds like you might have gotten a lemon. I woud contact Hatsan through their web CS Form and see what they can do for you.

I think I've determined the cause of the baffle clipping now. The muzzle adaptor that was included has a very loose fit in the threads and relies on the mating surface at the tip of the barrel cover and the hex head of the adaptor for alignment. This means that if either isn't perfectly perpendicular to the bore the alignment will be off. There was a significant amount of play in all directions with the adaptor up until the point it contacted the hex head.

This should be correctable either by truing the surface of the hex head and barrel cover, replacing it with a continuously threaded nipple or using a grossly oversized silencer like a .50.

Strange. I got the 1 on clearance + a buck rail moderator for it. No problems with mine at all, and I would highly recommend it to anybody. 170 bucks for a suppressed convertible carbine is a steal IMO and this thing hits harder than I thought it would.
Buy a Notos for $50 more. It will run circles around the Jet.

I am so glad I did not buy a Jet :)

Well, I bought a Gamo Arrow instead and you should see my review soon.

Just post on this thread (https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/hatsan-jet-the-air-gun-i-will-never-own.1303644/) that I started when I decided not to buy a Jet.

They sell the notos for 130? Does it convert to a pistol as well?
When on sale, the Notos can be found in the $220-$240 range, or about $250-$260 when not on sale.
Jet 2 cost at least $200 even on sale, or about $250-$260 when not on sale.
So, actually the Notos is about the same price as a Jet 2.

The Notos can be used as a pistol but it will be pretty long.

I've a jet 2 in .25. Bought it a year ago. It works great. Maybe there is a bad batch? My moderator adapter seats squarely, no troubles. Maybe a batch of adapters are out of spec.
Turns out it wasn't the adaptor, but rather a roughly finished barrel cover. There were casting ridges and swarth left at the muzzle and when I tightened the adapter down they were causing it to sit out of alignment with the bore. Once I realized the problem I tightened it down using a pair of crescent wrenches and seriously overtorqued it. That seems to have smashed down or broken off the ridges and rough areas and it's no longer clipping baffles.

I always thought that's what files or a Dremel were for.
To remove stuff like that.
