N/A Scope weight on a springer

Does the weight of a scope affect the felt recoil/shot cycle of a springer? Or are we talking negligible differences between a light and heavy scope?

Just wondering bc I have an extra 40oz arken, no springer though. Thanks

I notice a pretty significant difference between no scope and a 20oz scope so take that for what its worth. I'd assume scope height and balance would probably be a factor there too

It stands to reason that a heavier rig will have less felt recoil all things being equal. In theory should group better.
I once had an HW95k which was a pig to shoot groups consistently with. I just couldn't master it. One night I clamped a red light to the top of the scope to go ratting and lo and behold it grouped beautifully. The extra 6 to 8oz made all the difference. I still sold the rifle.

It is extra weight, so it will affect the shot cycle. Maybe that’s something you want if you shoot field target, or something you don’t care much about if you shoot from supported positions and don’t pack it around much.

I personally find that the biggest issue I have with a heavy springer is shooting it offhand. I don’t pack them around in the field for hours at a time, so a 10 or 12 lb rifle doesn’t bother me from that perspective, but trying to hold an 11 lb rifle that’s over 48” long steady offhand isn’t easy.

It probably does to some degree. I myself look at if it makes the rifle top heavy which will give it a tendency to tilt in your hands and that throws your shot off. You have to be extra aware of that.

Ya, I see that with my heaviest scope . Then if you got to use higher rings/ mounts it feel more top heavy..

Going to eventually get a tx200 which is front heavy, throw on an arken, short stroke it and use a 12ft lb spring. Backyard plinker. Should be fun

Just a heads up in case you don't already know. You'll be sitting right around 9ftlbs with a 12ftlb spring. It will shoot great but may be a little under powered for your liking. If you want closer to 12ftlbs the full power spring may be more to your liking

Thanks for the heads up. That will be fine since I only have a few yards to work with. Once I go out to the field more I could change to the full power spring.
