Crosman Icon Barrels are JUNK

It's no secret by now that the Icon barrels are complete trash. I have 2, one of them I cut down for a pistol and the other I was slogging through a rifle build with.

I don't know what the china factory thinks is acceptable but the crowns are abhorrent. I attempted a recrown on the rifle build which revealed that the bore isn't remotely centered in the barrel. It did tighten the groups significantly but still was nowhere near acceptable to me so I ordered the Barra 1100z replacement.

Night and day better barrel visually which is as far as I've gotten so if you want to follow along please do. I know a lot of the members here won't consider any gun that doesn't cost a couple grand so it won't be for everyone.

Here they are next to each other. The Barra is just about 1.25" longer, has a far better crown, the bore appears to be centered, and it has a better finish.

Unlike the Chrosman (my ultra edgy term for Chinese Crosman) it at least rolls true. $35 with shipping. It doesn't have the shoulder but the set screw divots seem to be perfectly where they need to be to line up the breech port. It's obviously slimmer and thus lighter which is certainly welcome. It will need some sort of shim to get the barrel band to clamp it tightly. Probably will use plastic. Chrosman thought they needed a mil spec bull barrel on this beast.

I have a bike show this weekend so I doubt I get to it before Monday but I will get it ported at 5/32 to match the valve port and slung into the breech to produce some groups to see how much it improves the accuracy.

Thats all I got fer now. Poke fun at me and my cheap rig if you want. I won't cry too hard. Hopefully Velocity doesn't send me a CEASE AND DESIST LETTER! LOL! Thanks for reading.

Idk where they get their barrels but I've had 5 bad factory 1322/2240 barrels as well.
They used to make all of those at the US factory. I think they still do but not really sure as they've been farming more and more manufacturing out to pad their bottom line. For example the new 1077 Tac is all made in China and it's a real piece of junk too. Shame what the latest corporate buyout did to the overall quality.

I have nothing against China manufacturers and the 1100z barrel is made there too but they need to be QC'd and rejected until they're made right.

Well, if they are in stock, at least for those guns (13xx, 22xx) you can get Lothar Walther barrels for about $50 out the door. Not sure about other models. Still kinda crummy you have to replace the barrel put of the box. Like just charge more if that's what it takes to get a decent barrel. Not a good look selling junk.
They charge plenty already for the Icon. If it hadn't been for their $129 fire sale to get some moving i'dve dodged the bullet. Even the Barra which seems to be superior in every way is only $225. Velocity is money hungry. It will definitely hurt them in the long run.

Only $225 for a barrel? Nay, doesn't seem right. One other thing to consider is .22 rimfire barrel liners or any of the centerfire barrel liners.
Knifeman swore by them,oh yea you gotta know what you want, and now that slugs are in should be no problem to match liner with the slug you choose.
Then again you have to balance all things, which would first find the different size liners that balance the slug, then tune for the slug then cross your fingers, oh how is this, make the slugs fit the liner you choose and adjust the power level you are shooting for.
It is not a pipe dream:ROFLMAO:

What? I never said 225 for a barrel. Sorry your post is confusing to me.

I was so disgusted with my last purchase of a Crosman barrel for my 1377 rebuild, I kept it to remind myself never to do that again. I've bought several Crosman barrels over the years and they were so-so at best. But this last one looked like I made it on my drill press. Shoots as good as it looks.

Sorry I was confused, you were talking about barrels, now I see it was about the airguns themselves, not just the barrels,so I guess you buy replacement barrels for those airguns and try to find a good one?
I should have realized what you meant, not to worry about understanding me,I confuse myselfo_O
Barra 1100z is made by a different company and the barrels are totally different. That's literally what this entire thread is about...

I've only bought 1 Barra barrel, and so far it looks like a winner. The crown, the rifling and the finish all look great and it rolls true. Of course it was dirty but most new replacement barrels are. The have to have oil to protect them. It came packed well in a very rigid, capped tube to protect it. Crosman ships theirs loose in a box and sometimes they even escape the box before they show up. We shall see what the final verdict is come accuracy testing time.

Oh no! Been a long time since I did a build with a factory 22xx or 13xx build but I have one coming up so thanks for the heads up. Crosman may be out back looking for an old barrel for me lol

Yeah, whatever factory is making the Icon has no idea how to crown a barrel. I thought mine looked bad

But some people received far worse, like this one posted up by KO

Shameful that Crosman has so little regard for basic quality control, but in fairness they’re not alone. Diana has the same apathy for the guns they source from Snowpeak.

A gun that won't shoot straight, ain't nothin' but a paperweight.

If it won’t shoot straight it had better be pretty darn collectible. I’ve got a couple of antique powder burners hanging on the wall that have some familial significance and if someone offered me a gyrojet it wouldn’t have to shoot straight to be the coolest gun in my collection, but in general, yes, if a gun won’t shoot straight it’s junk.

I have a pet rabbit that I'll never eat and wouldn't trade for a billion dollars so I get that.
