First post/ Airgun advice.

If you can get the 48 for only $10 more then that's the one I'd go for. I'd personally get it in .22 as it's a fairly powerful rifle and the bigger pellets are easier to load. Sidecockers and underlevers are a bit harder to load than break barrels.
For sure. I think it will/would be interesting to have a sidecocker, I hear that you can really smash your fingers with them though.
Don t have experience with the Diana 34 but I do have it with a model 48, 52, and 54. The 48 is a good all around air rifle. If I was forced to pick just one it would be the RWS 48. The gun will shot 1 hole groups but I cannot.

Welcome to AGN and the hobby
Thanks for the welcome! Im most likely going to get an RWS 48, I have heard nothing but great things about them from reading reviews and forum posts. I have read that I will probably want a zero recoil mount for it though.

Welcome to AGN. Don't own a Gamo but I do own several Model 95's. Yes, the Vortex rams can have leak issues, but the spring powered versions can still be found and you have one less concern. A little TLC, and that's for ANY brand you buy, can make it better shooting rifle and I still have the Model 95 .25 I bought in April of 2015 that got me started back in the hobby. It's a spring powered rifle now, but the ram failing was MY fault for tinkering with it and got converted to a springer.
Also been hearing good things about the Cometa rifles, especially the Fenix 400 series and we now have a seller for them in the US called Keystone AIrguns:
Plenty of good rifles and brands out there, so definitely not an easy choice and said by a guy who owns entirely too many...lol

I’m pretty sure the 48 has an anti-beartrap mechanism on it that should prevent that. They’ve been around a very long time and I haven’t heard of them being responsible for any amputated fingers.

What I find with my TX200 is that I support the rifle by holding the underlever with my left hand while loading with my right so even if the anti-bear trap and trigger both were to fail I’d still be holding the cocking lever. I don’t know how easily that would work with a side lever but it’s very natural with the under lever.

Doing a little reading about the Diana 34, I saw the Diana 48 is only about $10 more then the 34, but is better in every way from what ive read.
yes I totally agree with that after owning one of each, even if they were different caliber.. now I'm not sure where they are made currently since it's been at least 25 years since I had them.. but mine were made in Germany.. I did see that there was a closeout sale on the 48 somewhere, hopefully not because I really liked it and didn't need a fancy stock, which is I think the only difference between the 48&52.. assuming that the quality is still good like it used to be you can't go wrong.. although you might also look at the weight of each, seems like I remember the 48 being heavier on a long hike.

I had the 48 and I don't know exactly how you would smash your finger.. I never did and I also learned that I could cock and load it and then if I didn't take a shot that day, don't remember how but I just uncocked it..
not sure what you mean by zero recoil mount.. as far as scope mounts it got a heavy double recoil and I had one piece mount with two rings, so it was a bottom piece that clamps to the rail.. a set screw that went down from the top into a corresponding hole in the rail to prevent all movement and then you could adjust it to get it close to zero and then just use scope adjustments to fine tune it.

Random lame thought and I had to go back 3 pages to find it, but I remembered reading somewhere on the forum they were being discontinued, so if you want new, grab one while you can or keep an eye on the Classifieds for a used one:
Don't let that stop you from buying one though. Considering how long the 48 has been in production, should you need a part for it, there should be plenty out there. Probably also won't be your only springer since once hooked, you will want more....lol.

@bluehusky424 Welcome to AGN the best . after reading most of these posts i think you getting good advise . I don't know where you live but there are Air gunners around maybe you can visit one and shoot some guns ?

My advise is to put buying on hold for a few weeks or more . I know the "itch " is great to buy . Although the 48 would be a great choice .

Welcome aboard!

I'd suggest getting a cometa over the option you stated.

I'm not a break barrel guy, but the cometas are getting great reviews. I did have a ruger air hawk for a couple years and then gave it to my buddy for his squirrel problems. I still use it when I go over there and usually bag a tree rat or a couple starlings with it. Cheap gun, good trigger and decent power. Only 177 though.

I had just heard about some people smashing their fingers in them, that is all. As well as seeing that some people recommend a zero recoil scope mount to avoid destroying scopes, but I guess if you got one specifically meant for air guns then that wouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for the welcome! If I am unable to get a model 48 I will probably end up going with a cometa. I would really really like a model 48 while I can still get one though.

I took a look at the Cometa. I think I will end up going with that one rather then a Diana as much as I would like one. The Fenix 400 USC looks very appealing, and has lots of praise from what ive seen. I will have to snag one when they are back in stock on keystone airguns, hopefully I will not have to wait long. Is there anyway I can get an email when they're in stock again?

I’d probably just pay the $50 extra for the Premier Star, but then I’m a sucker for walnut stocks and adjustable cheek pieces are nice too.

I don’t think you’ll regret either the Cometa or the Diana 48.

I vote cometa usc... I plan to get one in 22 myself. I chickened out earlier on getting one, but they are proving to be a great value. I need to get into springers anyhow. An HW97K is hopefully in the cards as well.
I am watching for them to be back in stock and if I catch it ill snag one. Since I only see one place to get them here in the US, I think odds are against me haha
