.177 Cal 100 yd BR

Been there & tried that at @ 38 FPE ... 100 with a .177 heavy pellet or slug is going to be SO VERY subjective to the wind each shooter must deal with :cautious:
Can't see a way to make it really fair to all who attempt it ?

Tho said ... Bring it and those willing will play :giggle:
Yes Scott, that was an eye opener for me, especially when you did so well in the EFT GP event with .177 Beast at the same competition... Slugs would be an improvement; Pellets would be difficult as noted above.

Even tho at the time shooting as I recall H&N Sniper magnums ( 16g IIRC ) at @ 1030 -1040 fps worked great in the EFT event, on paper at 100 one needed to be very schooled in reading the winds flags, which I sadly was not

.177's with heavy projectiles and an ability to shoot em just subsonic is a real smile maker :D

Sounds fun. I bought a crown a few days ago, wanted to try my 380mm barrel with 13.4 grain jsb pellets. Figured it wouldn't shoot good. Well, the things accurate. At 50 it will cut a rugged hole. I changed no setting from 22 to 177, gun will shoot both well. At 50 yards in 22 cal I hit 22 out of 25 quarter in dots on paper. The misses where minor. The 380 barrel isn't long enough for 100 yards, but it still shoots good at 50. My 22 barrel is a brick. About 10 pounds of accuracy there in a barrel. A 177 shoot would be fun. Pellets only,or heavy slugs?

Agree! Make it 25 fpe, pellets or slugs, shooter's choice.
Now ya just went and took all the fun out of it throttling back the power that far

One only need look at >20 fpe Heavy varmint bench rest at 50y .... Tough game !!! an extra 5 FPE and going to 100, good luck on garnering much interest in that one ... IMO

Or you could shoot the JSB KO 13.43 grain baby slugs at 930 fps, with a BC of 0.075 G1 and do pretty OK... Only saying that because I have an older .177 Dreamline 500mm that shoots the KOs at 930 fps and can keep most shots inside the 8 ring (2 inches) at 100 yards outdoors... I schwack ground squirrels regularly out to 130 yards with it.

The concept we originally discussed was with a 10 grn pellet. I don’t understand the lack of interest or fun? Is it because no one will score a 250? Like everything else it’s about the wind. Yes I know it will be hard, but that’s fun! Indoors you can shoot a very good score with a 10.3 pellet at 100. I guess if the outdoor conditions were pretty bad it might be a fun sucker? IDK

One more point on this in my humble opinion, we all need to quit pretending you can shoot slugs or pellets outdoors and see who wins at 75 yds plus? Maybe less? As at 50 my top 3 guns would all shoot slugs if I had a choice! I will not win Daytona with a Prius! The slug advantage / gap is just growing larger all the time! And for the most part we have what we are gonna get with pellets that have a waist.
Just had another shooter (the 6th) send me pics of groups he shot @ 50 with a barrel / tune that is under .5 moa at 50 indoors! With .177slug,Yes, less than .250. The point is? Slugs won’t work or just open up the gates to all?

100, 150, and 200 yd slug bench rest is coming boys and girls like a hurricane, 4or 5 big ones already this year and RMAC already discussing it for next! I hope some of you understand my point with all that👍🏻

A 10.3 or 13.4 pellet at 100 outdoors is interesting to me, I had not even thought of trying it.

Next time I’m shooting 100, I’m going to bring one of my .177s and see if I can keep shots hitting a 5.5 inch paper plate at 100.

I guess I’m not quite following? Slugs or pellets should not be shot over 50Yds outdoors? Just slugs over 50yds outdoors? 50yds inside at .50 MOA with pellets but .250 MOA with slugs according to targets sent to you? Only slugs should be shot over 50yd outdoors? If slugs are much better at longer ranges then obviously the scoring rings and X’s need to be much smaller!

I’m not discounting anything you’re stating just trying to get a complete understanding of what you’re saying. Slugs have a large advantage over pellets in B.C. And consistency in manufacturing, but also are more expensive and more time consuming to tune not to mention may require a barrel specific to slugs (FX or Skout not quite as expensive?) other manufacturers?

This is what I do know, I work 50+ hrs a week with different shift rotations I can’t shoot every day, night to tune let alone at the longer ranges required especially for slugs. I will watch or read from the sidelines, and try to get at least One long range pellet event a year. I can shoot out to 60yds in my backyard and find it difficult to believe slugs have a huge advantage at 50yd or below? If so then I’m limited to competing against myself at this stage of my life. ( There’s only one Manufacturer competitor that can honestly and repetitively shoot .250 MOA with slugs at 50yd and above and if you don’t know who I’m talking about you better figure it out real soon! ).

25 fpe is too low, IMO. At least allow 35 fpe
I agree, i get about 30 fpe shooting 13gr, and if you are not going to be limited to just 1-2-3 lightest slugs ( 10 - 12.5 - 13gr ) then you really will want more, 40 fpe would be getting my vote, not least since ( not verified by me yet ) 16gr is actually the best performer in my new rifle.

I am optimistic and i am going to make a record large slug order of just 16 gr ones.
