52 yd Shot with stock Notos on quail

52 yard shot on quail

Damn it, first quail with my Notos and didn't get it on vid. Was just out sighting it in at 50 yards to see how it groups at that distance with the 13.43gn, wasn't really out hunting, and along came some quail. Just got a rangefinder too so didn't have to guess on the distance.
I used the stick to show where it passed through. He just dropped, no fluttering at all.

Love my little Notos

Nice job with the Notos, I've never had a chance to eat quail so are they anything like a morning dove ? Also how did you cook it, breast only or whole ? Thanks
I just cook it in the oven, put butter and spices on it, cover it in foil. Actually have an air fryer, just put it on the regular setting if you put it on air fryer or it cooks too fast and will be tough

Hey Zeke forgot to ask have you figured out your max shooting distance for your Notos ? and what scope are you using also sorry for all the questions.
I bought the Notos just for backyard plinking so 50 yards is the farthest I've shot it...I only have about 20 yds to shot in the yard so I just have a real cheap CVLife scope...not spending a few hundred bucks to shoot in my backyard lol

That's awesome! I've got a number of dove with mine as well.

I think quail is better than dove from a flavor perspective and the fact that they're a game animal and not a migratory bird so we can shoot them with air rifles. I've had so much dove at this point I'm over it but quail has a more delicate flavor and is closer to pheasant than dove in my opinion. Granted my opinion is based on California species of quail. For me, small birds are just breasted out. Hope my opinions are worth your time.

Nice job with the Notos, I've never had a chance to eat quail so are they anything like a mourning dove ? Also how did you cook it, breast only or whole ? Thanks
I have eaten three species and they all tasted the same to me. They are a lot milder than dove and I actually prefer quail to pheasant.
I shoot 80-100 valley quail every year. I have four pointers and they need to be hunted. My adult kids love them so they get lots of them from me.
When I clean them I use a method called spatchcocking. Basically gets the breast and legs in one piece.
I like them drenched with flour and seasoning then fried in butter or bacon grease. Don’t over cook them or they get dry fast.
