FX Impact M4 leaking air

My main tank gauge is leaking air. I can see bubbles at the threads when I put alcohol on it after a fill. Air-Gun Depot suggested tightening it up.

I took off the plastic cover that surrounds the gauge to expose the flats for a wrench to tighten it. I tried to tighten it but the air pressure is too great and/or the flats on the gauge are too small to get any purchase on it to tighten.

I think I need to remove the bottle and relieve all the pressure to get it tightened. Would that work?

How do I remove the bottle? Do I then just dry fire it to relieve the internal pressure?

Thanks

If it's leaking just let it sit until the bottle gets to 1500 or 1000PSI and the bottle will be easier to get off. Then you could dry fire a couple times or continue to let it leak. Then I would take the gauge off and check the o-ring and put a tiny bit of silicone grease /oil on the o-ring not the threads! Re install without overly tight.

Did that seal it up ?
Hey Trucker,

It is leaking a lot less now. It has lost 23 bar in the last 9 hours - filled to 263, now at 240 bar. It was losing about 90 bar in that time period before.

I may need to tighten it a bit more.

Now I'm wondering what is the typical air loss after a fill for an M4? Or possibly I have another unfound leak?

You really need to let it set awhile and see if it holds at that 240 bar. The loss of pressure due to cool off really depends on many things. I have seen 10-20 bar drop easy after filling. If you know the gauge is still leaking a little your loss is probably just due to that. You can try to tighten a bit more or you can call the vendor you bought it from or Utah air and get some more seals that go under the gauges.

Thanks for the reply.

As it turned out, i didn't need to remove the bottle. I just had to bear down on the crescent wrench I was using and the gauge turned even under system pressure.
They put some kind of thread locker on them. Both on my Maverick were like that.

They have a x-ring under them, the front/bottle gauge can have a plastic disk which can be replaced with the x-ring.
