Crosman 1701P - Color Me Impressed

IMG_3688.jpeg
Got a new-to-me 1701P off a forum member here. Had fired a few shots and seemed quite loud, so I got with TKO and acquired a 6.5” moderator and now it’s exceptionally backyard friendly.

Decided to throw on a Holosun 407C green dot sight I had sitting around.

Threw it on a bag just supporting the air tube (no grip or hand support) and managed to pull off multiple single hole 5 shot groups at 8 yards with 7.9 CPHP’s and hitting sub 1” targets at 9 yards standing shooting off hand.

Things to do now:

-Chrono: not sure what it’s at right now, but it’s eating a ton of air. Nowhere close to 50 shots per fill for me. Maybe 25ish (I didn’t count exactly, but good enough for this evening). If this thing is maxed out on hammer spring, that might explain why it’s so loud without a moderator.

-New grips are a must - these factory ones suck.

-Assess the loading port. Kept having a lot of issues with pellets going skirt high when attempting to close the bolt and jamming. Maybe I just need better finesse.

The 1701 came with two TPs.
One that reduces power to 500fps.
The other one a bit more.
You may want to check the TP.
To get maximum amount of shots, turn HS fully CCW.
Turn HT fully CW.
As the name of the pistol implies, it was designed for silhouette shooting up to 18 yards.
The lower power with the adjustments I detailed will do that all day

There was no other loose parts in the box, so I'm not sure what TP is in there currently. I'll get the chrono out in the next day or so and see what kind of numbers I get.

I just picked a 1701P up from a member here myself. I've only had it to the range once but have to say, I'm pretty impressed. I touched nothing out of the box as it was delivered, except I upgraded the grips and added a 2 min optic. Testing on my Lyman trigger scale said it had a consistent 12 oz trigger that was fairly crisp. Not "lets go to the Olympics" crisp but likely the best trigger I've ever felt on a Crosman. I also liked the front sight arrangement better than what comes on the 2300S Co2 gun. What impressed me the most though were the Chrono numbers. Running the pistol over my Garmin Zero, I was getting an average of 466FPS with only a 1.6 FPS Standard Deviation. Lastly, as tuned/delivered, I got just over 65 shots from a 200 Bar fill to the point where I noticed some velocity drop to where POI changed. Better than expected really. All in all, I feel It's a pretty cool platform if your already set up to fill PCP.

Mine, though used infrequently is definitely a solid tack driver. I suspect as I get older, she will assert a greater hold on me. Have to agree with you in that its a solid, solid, PCP pistol. So pleasant to shoot and more accurate than I can hold.
I use mine almost daily. I was going to take measurements of all the factory settings and mod it for as many ftlbs as possible for 12-14 shots with 10.5 pellets but built myself a .22 crosman pcp pistol that fits the bill and is just over 12 inches. 1701p are Awesome little pistols.

Nice grips! And the source?
