Nice!

A little variety spices it up for sure.

& w a simple butt stock you have a sweet carbine. I get why those guns are so loved.

I'm still a little on the fence w the whole pistol thing so this may be my last one too. If I do it again tho I'll probably get a Huben....or maybe a Taquila 🤔

I just received the Viper-X in .30 and the pictures and reviews I’ve read really don’t do it justice as far as fit and finish as well as how it feels in hand.

Size-wise, it’s narrow and very pointable. Feels pretty fairly balanced.

The mags are small and very high quality. Only 5 rounds per mag, but you get two in the box and a cool double mag that holds 10.

I’ve only spent an hour shooting it, but it handles slugs (.300 @ 61.5gr) on the high side. Shoots hades as it should with no drama.

I have quite a few pistols and while this isn’t the highest FPE, it’s a joy to shoot and I think it’s a keeper.

Is it loud? Yeah, as loud as a GK1 unsuppressed. The Evanix moderator works just fine to quiet it down to a reasonable back yard airgun.

I’m going to pick up a stock adapter for it just for fun.

Questions?

Peace,
Mark

Must be hard for anyone wanting a quiet compact PCP pistol to attach a moderator as long as the pistol. Just sayin'...

I dwelled in cities too many decades, myself.

Yup.

I try to use modular mods so I can choose my audible poison. In this case though, hard to find a .30 or .35 mod that uses M18x1 threads.

If you have any ideas about where to find one, happy to hear.

I have no complaints either. It's fun to shoot & that's all that is important to me in an air pistol.

A higher shot count would be sweet, but no worse than a revolver. The double mag mitigates this a bit.

Having a removable magazine is a safety feature Im glad it has. Being a semi auto & always in battery, removing the magazine makes shooting your eye out more difficult.

Doing the math & the plan is to get a rimfire next time if I feel the need for more power. It's crazy that a Ruger Mk IV costs a fraction of what we're in for an air pistol and isn't significantly costlier to shoot

I’m not a powder burner shooter, but at one point, I was a huge fan of 22LR rigs because of all of the loading options (and the potential for sub sonic loads).

That said, I love the options we have nowadays. The Viper, for me, is a keeper.

As are many other smaller rigs: Mordax, GK1 Shorty and Super Shorty…

If the Defender were the least bit reliable, I’d own one of those too.

Can anyone tell me if there is a point of the slide beyond initially cocking the gun?

Like any semi-auto (I assume) the gun is always in battery. I haven't tried de-cocking.

I'd genuinely like to hear your likes/ dislikes regarding both guns because I get that general impression from the few owners of both out there that I've follwed regarding the topic.

The concencus seems to be that the Huben edges the Evanix out at the end of the day pretty much across the board. It's actually one of the few products that Ive read almost no griping about & this is a tough crowd, so Im not skeptical

The big thing seems to usually come down to power & shot count. Both things that I'm not terribly concerned about shooting targets @ 10 m or less. For some reason the air handgun crowd seems to be obsessed w the differences in power. Not that it doesn't matter to me, but I have zero intentions for using this toy for hunting or personal protection. Short of being a felon, I'm not even sure why somone would opt for an airgun or especially an air pistol as a PDW.

Most of the useful and limited information that I've been able to read has been drowned out by the "Huben blows Evanix out of the water" statements that seems to come from people who either have not used the Evanix..or sometimes even the Huben. So I discounted most of that noise out of the purchase decision

Not that I need my arm twisted but convince me why I need the Huben as my 2nd PCP pistol
I'm not sure that anyone actually needs a PCP pistol, but the GK1 just does nearly everything really well. It's quite accurate. Unless you're bench resting it or shooting it in a tripod it will outshoot you. It's powerful. You can crank it up to around 80 fpe. It's efficient. I get around 50 shots at 30 fpe. It's semi-auto and it's reliable. It has a nice trigger, very smooth. Unlike on the K1 rifle, the safety is in a good location. The Huben silencer is small, lightweight and very effective on it.

Honestly, the only major downside that it has is that it's expensive.
