Air Arms Umarex Magnum M29 barrel adapter valve purpose?

What's the purpose of Umarex M29 BB-model's barrel adapter's valve+seal at the beginning of the pipe? Pellet versions have bare barrel adapter without any valve+seal thing (pic). There's also an air hole on top of a gun near the barrel joint.

They could, but the frame also needs to be worked on. Must have metalworking equipment too.

I think it might be something to do with airsoft versions and aligning the hop-up.
