GX-CS3-I question

Hi folks,

I recently bought a new GX-CS3i compressor on Amazon. I did some deadhead pressure testing and noticed that the pressure dropped immediately after hitting the set psi level, even though I hadn’t yet opened the bleed valve. I checked for air leaks but couldn’t find any. Not wanting to mess with a new compressor, I returned it for a replacement, which arrived today. It does the same thing! I sprayed connections, used two different deadhead plugs (I greased both), and I checked the tube connections. They were tight. I can’t find any leaks. I’ve attached a video showing the problem. Is this normal? I read somewhere that if this happens, something is wrong. But on two new units?

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Mike

Neither good nor normal, compressor will always be working against itself. Two separate GX-CS3s, with same leak, points to common cause. Could just be a batch of bad gauges, these center knob adjustable ones are notorious leakers. Soapy water spray bottle with adjustable spray head on narrow stream works best for me. Don't forget spraying around pressure release valve, too. WM

I hooked up to a gun, made up a better leak detection solution, and I think I may have found the leak. It seems to be at the bleed valve connection. See photo… the bubbles appear to be coming out of the bleed valve port even though I have the screw well tightened. But there are also bubbles at the nut. I tried tightening that, but it won’t budge. Can you advise me on what to do? Is the nut something I can remove and wrap with teflon tape? I can't get it any tighter than it already is. Thanks!

Don't know GX-CS3 but I'd remove complete assembly by removing nut, no pressure on system, of course, then investigate what seals pressure release assembly to compressor AND pressure-release screw to seal air pressure. A plastic "donut" washer, "O" ring or rubber ball is missing, or defective. Doubt more tightening or teflon tape is answer. WM
