RTI Krait L or RTI P3 Performance

Good time of the day, everyone.

A quick introduction: I primarily shoot firearms and have only occasionally shot air guns. I live in the Netherlands, and unlike in the USA, we have a limit of five firearms per personal license. I used to have a CZ 457 for fun shooting, but I had to sell it to make room on my license.

Now, to the main question—I’ve narrowed my search for an air gun down to the Krait L and the RTI P3 Performance. While I’m not a big fan of the bullpup design, I can appreciate its compactness in this case. I’ve spent a fair amount of time on forums reading reviews and getting a general impression of both guns. For me, it's about target shooting at distances of up to 100 meters.

Is there any noticeable difference in performance and accuracy when using slugs and pellets? Or does it mostly come down to personal preference?

I have to add that the P3 looks like something straight out of a Fallout game—a damn paddle, a gas tank, and a steel pipe put together. But in the end, of course, it’s all about the actual quality of the gun.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Welcome to the forum.

You are in luck in that I have both guns! I like both but if I had to pick one and especially in your case with a limited number per license, I would go with the P3 as you can swap out the barrels easily - if that is allowed within the terms of the license. The P# in .22 and .25 with thei RPB barrel is one of the few that I have owned that will acutally shoot both pellet s and slugs well. I currently have my P3 with the .25 barrel and I am shooting 30.2g AEA slugs out of it at and it is maintaing groups the size of a 0.01 EU (thumb size and smaller...).

As you sdaid, both are bullpups and are very easy to carry around and to hunt with - sepecially in thick wooded or brush areas. The P3 .22 barrel is 600mm and the Krait L is 550mm. The P3 is actually easier to adjust. The Krait s adjustable but in my experience it is more :sensative" to get in the sweet spot. Both are more accurate guns than I can shoot. You really can't go wrong with either.

Hi Pfddi, thanks a lot for your quick response. What I meant is that I have a limit for firearms only, which is why I sold the CZ 457. I can own as many airguns as I can afford. Swapping barrels is not something I would be doing, to be honest. I'm thinking of just going with .25.

Ok - then in that case the biggest difference would be the barrels. As I mentioned, the RTI .25 barrel shoots both slugs and pellets and the Krait L comes with either a choked or non-choked barrel, so really one or the other. If you want a gun that shoots slugs, either will work but make sure you get the un-choked barrel in the Krait.

What kind of pellets doe the Krait L like, and at what speed? TIA.

I know nothing of the Krait and while I do own a Prophet Performance, it is the original version and has been rock solid and much more capable the I am.
When I got it I also got two complete O Ring kits, that are still in their sealed bags after almost 3 years. Very dependable PCP.

I also do find the ease of swapping barrels to be a great feature. I have both .22LR and .25 RPB barrels and will eventually get a .30 too.
Being able to pull the barrel in less than a minute is also great for maintenance.

Either of your two choices would probably be good for you. I just wanted to chime in on what I consider the well thought out design of the Prophet.

Good luck and let us know what you end up with and how you like it.

And @Ranchibi is also corrert! I happen to have one of those also, but the tactical version with the bottle. Built like a tank and shoots like a sniper! It's just not in a metal frame like the other two, but Airmaks also has wood stocks and Utah Air has them on sale! And yes, I have one!

@jmohme - I have from .177 through .30 4 guns in one! OP, you will not be disappointed. The .25 really packs a whollap on the pests but a 50g JSB is complete smack down with the .30!

OP, you can't go wrong with any of these.

Similar to others, I have a Krait Light (compact), but my RTI Compact is a version 1. Both in .22 .
The Krait Light is MUCH shorter than my RTI Compact.
But all in all, both easy to shoot, both accurate, both are holding air very nicely. Both comfortable to shoot. Both will easily shoot well to 100 meters. The Krait seems a little more air friendly. That is, it's got a higher shot count at similar feet per second, settings, even with a smaller air cylinder. Watching the air pressure drop while shooting, the Krait needle moves VERY...slowly.

I actually just got done putting a few magazines through my Krait after changing the sight. I put a Prism on it, as I have a habit of changing sights on my guns until I'm happy.

I'd say pick the one that you like the look of better...OR...flip a coin.
BOTH will serve you well.

Mike

So far, both the .22 and .25 RPB barrels are very accurate and both of mine shoot pellets and slugs well. I can't find any difference in the "accuracy" of the 2 barrels that I could really say "this one is better than the other" As with all barrels, you need to find the slugs/pellets that it likes. My .25 shoots the AEA 30.2g the best. The .22 really likes the KO 25.39g slugs.

How fast are you shooting the AEA 30gr? I’ve had no luck with them out of 1:17, 1:20 or 1:23 barrels. But I haven’t pushed them real fast yet. I just tried them in my guns on their current slug tunes at 75 yards just to see if there was hope.

Averaging 941 fps with a 1.9 fps SD & 59.4 FT Lbs The slugs have great stopping power on the pests!

I was curious how they would perform on animals. But gotta have tight groups first. I’ll revisit them sometime and bump up the velocity some more. Thanks.
Same for me… the don’t perform, then they shoot two exceptional groups and go back to meh… all sorts of different speeds tried out of m4 with 1:16. P3 “best”, in relative terms…

My one Impact has a LW on it and it shoots pinky nail groups at 75 yards with a 30gr slug. Figured I’d try the AEA after seeing some pictures of them. Scatter gun at 75 yards.

AEA 30.2s are terrible grouping with my Krait L .25 and my PHC .25. With the P3 .25 RPB, I got a turtle at 154 yards the other day. It was on a log but a small one - 4". I shoot them in the head in the water moving all day at 100 to 125 with these slugs. The only slugs I have that group better are the Alteros 60g queens out of my 700mm Epic One. It is a dime group at 100 yards... the shooter is the weak link!

It’s crazy how different the same gun can be. My p3 loves .249 30gr HN and shoots them amazingly. With the AEA no (consistent) success anywhere between 900 - 970 fps (well, maybe I went I. Too big of intervals…)
