old lyman scope

Anyone have a working knowledge of these old scopes ? Interested in the close focus ?

What folks had on their position rimfires when I was young. I think they might have been called something like Super Spot but that was way back. I had a Fecker on my 52 custom stocked position rifle in my early 20's. Unertel was a big name. External adjustments. They would slide in the mount with recoil. Some had a spring around the tube to absorb the recoil and keep the scope positioned. Pretty crude compared to top end scopes today.

What you have pictured is a Lyman Junior Targetspot. These were available in either 8 or 10 power and will focus down to 50 feet. With the mounts spaced at approximately 7.25" each click is .25 MOA.

I've owned a number of Lyman, Unertl, and Fecker scopes over the years. All were exceptional (and pricey) scopes for their time. Now, my old eyes are much happier with modern scopes.

Highlux makes some repro type scopes that are similar but the ones I've used I was not impressed with and I don't know how close they focus.

I borrowed a friend's expensive vintage 1904 sniper system for Vintage Sniper comps and it was "all" a bit primitive in nature compared to modern stuff. Honestly I would have preferred using my cheapest modern scope instead by a massive margin if I were able to have that choice.

Yeah these have nostalgia but it's just not my thing.
