Airgun Technologies AGT Vixen or BRK Ranger/Atomic XR?

Hello all,

I live in a rural-ish area and would like to hunt the woods not far from my house this coming September (small game, mostly squirrel and rabbit). There are neighbors in the vicinity, so an air rifle is a better option for me than a .22lr. I think I have narrowed my choice down to either the AGT Vixen or the BRK Ranger/Atomic. My priorities are a) the gun has to be well-built, b) the gun has to be relatively easy to work on (changing seals, mostly), and c) accurate out to 50 yards.

By this point, I've watched dozens of hours of reviews on YT, read about the two guns on all the forums, etc. YT reviews for both are overwhelmingly positive, but I've seen some negatives about the Ranger on various forums, mostly relating to BRK's QC.

So, which would y'all pick? I really appreciate the feedback.
I have the vixen in .177 and really like it the two negatives have been the buttstock you will have to find an alternative and it's not as quiet as it looks. It's not loud just has a sharp snappy report I am used to Taipan veteran and I like quiet quiet hushing the Vixen to my liking required an adapter and a moderator pic below.

Other than my two nitpicks this thing has been a fantastic preformer smooth lite weight and pellet friendly shoots all the usual suspects well two Standouts would be hades and JTS 10.4.

My recommendation is buy both.

Two examples of why I love my BRKs… Simply murder on small pest out to 50 yards with the Atomic, 60+ yards with the Pathfinder…

Can’t argue with results! I’m with you in regards to using a bottle as a buttstock, too. It’s not a deal breaker for me, but it’s not ideal, either. And dang, I really thing the Ranger is a good looking gun (looks aren’t that important, but they don’t hurt).

Haha, if only I could.

I get thirty shots out of my Atomic, which is but a Ranger without the folding stock. Which is plenty for most hunting or pesting outings. And what I love best is... Even though I own a HPA compressor, I still hand pump my very capable Atomics… Did I mention the Atomic kicks arse… So nice, I own two…

I have Ranger xr.
It is very accuratte for the length of barrel.
At 30 yds zero one ragged hole with .22 Hades.
One complaint.It is very loud.
I backed out hammer spring to about 17 fpe and have to use large moderator to hush it down, that defeats the purpose of compact airgun. With Tatsu it was still loud.
Also shoot count in mine is lower then advertised (22).

Thanks! Any issues with build quality or quality control?

They are supposed to be moderated… mine is 27 1/4” with the moderator. The build quality is simply bomber. As for backing out the HS to 17 FPE? My two stellar Atomics shot at 17 FPE right out the box… They are not meant to perform optimally at higher FPE. Large moderator to quiet it down? Yeah right, maybe because you cranked up the power? To @youthanon, there are “zero” QC issues with the Atomic/Ranger platform…

You wrote you watch and read many reviews and yet keep asking the above… Buy the Vixen…🙏 Simply watch Steve’s video… Lots of good solid information…I put my Atomics, Pathfinder to the test in my Pesting endeavors and in my backyard from 15 to 102 yards…

I keep asking the question because I’ve watched/read so many reviews. I’d like to know if the negatives on the Ranger I’ve seen over various reviews (safety switch that breaks, messed up fill port cover, unreliable regulator, etc.) are one-offs, or are representative of the brand, which I can only know by asking the question to as many people as I can. The BRK is my preference due to form factor and tube, but it’s too expensive to buy without doing due diligence.

Post up links to what you are stating above.. not questioning the veracity of… The BRKs simply speak for themselves through performance…Post up but one link to your following statement… 🙏 And then buy the Vixen…

My Atomic last night at 25 yards, wine corks cut in half… Can hit the same half corks at 40 yards and in good conditionss out to 50 yards…
and a link to my Atomic in action… The platform simply rocks…

Regulator issues (seems like he eventually got it fixed, but I’m not spending $1300 on a project):

Fill port issues: https://airgunforums.co.uk/threads/brococks-ranger-xr-177-qc-nightmare.93038/

Safety switch, can’t find the link right now, but know I came across a video of some guy complaining about it, or it wouldn’t have been an issue in my mind.

You’re starting to sound a little defensive. I’m not impugning you or calling your experience into question. I’m just interested in everybody’s opinion, if they have experience. Thank you for yours.

Not being defensive and did not take it that way from you. The complaints you have linked are legitimate. But definitely not the norm. There were various comments on your linked post where other users stated having “zero issues” with theirs… Mine have proven themselves over and over without hiccups so thats what I have to go on… Buy whatever you choose from a reputable dealer and you’ll have no worries. Good luck with your final choice… It’s but a hobby so a win win situation…🙏

Mine is loud at 17 fpe. With 8 inch moderator is ok but short moderators around 5 inch still very loud.

If you want a good realistic review of the Atomic, check out Iguana Snipers on YT, she's been shooting one for years. AOA just sent her a Pathfinder which she is using in her new videos.
I own both and they are simply awesome platforms. The Pathfinder is my primary pesting rig and the Atomic is my night ratter… My second Atomic is simply an unneeded backup to the first…
