Raccoon Down

This pestiferous creature had been given many chances. I started removing my feeders and making sure everyhting was secure. He kept coming, tore up my feeders inside my shed! Messed all over both patios. Now he is no more. I had out a trap but he somehow tore his way out of the trap destroying it. So he met his match at the hands of the M-Rod Super Light .25. I hit him in the noggin with a JSB 34 at approximately 900 fps MV at about 15 yards. The impact bowled him over and I double tapped him in the noggin again. He is big, not the biggest I have encountered here. This one weight just about 40 pounds.

The 15 yards is magic for me because that is where my laser and my RD sight are co-witnessed. I never got the butt to my shoulder on the first shot, just got the dot and laser on him.

That did the job! I like the side lever on your Syn-Rod . I sold my M-Rod to a friend but hope to acquire a Syn-Rod in the future . I think I'd like the butt stock better for shouldering . Great photo !

That's a BIG one! The largest I've seen was 36 lbs. After that most are about 18 to 24 lbs not counted the kiddies that lost their mothers.

Not sure what it is about Kansas but the deer up here are huge, like elk, coyotes more like small wolves and raccoons near 50 pounds. The last one I had to do in that was hissing and chasing my wife and my neighbor lady was right at 50 pounds.

those coons are not only mean, they are pretty tough.. personally I don't use anything less than a 22lr.. and I have shot more than I care to.. some take several shots and others one..
I too had one come after me during broad daylight and I beat him with the only thing close a broken axe handle that was on the woodpile when I was getting wood and he came after me.. fortunately my old cattle dog came and pulled his tail and then ran him up a tree

Close to 60 years ago I occasionally got to go "coon hunting" with my uncle near the town of Burlington Kansas. The mothers hated it, the kids (including me) loved it. My uncle tried to be sure everybody had a flashlight but only he or another uncle had a firearm (and nobody had a pellet gun). I don't think we ever got a raccoon when I was there but we got a few possums. My uncle did not always kill them but sometime he did, he said it kept the dogs interested. We would go running through the woods when the dogs barked "treed" trying to get to that tree before the raccoon jumped out of the tree and started running again. We fell in creeks, got tangled up in fences, and fell in creeks. Fun stuff.

Congratulations on a big one!
