American Air Arms Evol having cardiac arrest

Here’s a pic of my hammer, took all of two minutes to get it out. Does yours look like this ?

I will say that my barrel is spotless and polished to a mirror finish. And yes, tough to get parts for. I was trying to source a regulator gauge because I thought the one on mine was bad. It ends up the faceplate wasn’t glued and the readout was spinning . Two drops of glue fixed that.

Thanks! Nope, mine doesn’t look like that. Mine looks like the schematics show it, plus the hammer spring is painted blue (which is factory).

I wanted to hop on this thread and say that I have owned several AAA Evols and none have looked like yours. That is NOT a new gun. That reg has been bastardized and beat on HARD - the purple anno should be PERFECT with no marks or dings - someone f'ed that gun HARD and left it strung out to dry. I would demand a refund for that POS used gun you got.

Traded for it here, my trading partner got it here as well some time ago. Just to be clear, the member I traded with is great and completely honest. He offered to trade back immediately after seeing a pic of the reg and reinforced the offer after seeing the barrel. He didn’t know how the gun was looking inside and only had it for a short time, so no complaints there. Just put a ton of work into it by now and am on the fence of re-barreling or not. Would feel like quitting to stop now. On the other hand… don’t throw good money and time after bad?!

Maybe this is an opportunity knocking at your door , new better barrel , rebuild the other parts ?

Have you pushed a pellet through the barrel to see how the rings feel? What pellets are you shooting?

Also 10fps spread over 30 shots is very good also. No need to get any lower than that.
AEA pellets. Yeah pushed one through, feels good until the end of the barrel, the almost fall out. I’m guessing that the skirts expand into the rings and get compressed again 3 times when they hit the rings…

If you've already rebuilt everything and you're just down to the barrel then I guess it wouldn't hurt to go the extra bit. Maybe even call AoA and see if they have a spare.

Sorry for your troubles, It really goes to show you can get stuck with something someone had no business getting into when you buy used.

Yeah going to give AOA a call, they have a list of other backordered stuff for me anyway :) no high hopes given how scarce Evol parts are though… lesson learned I guess, don’t get used (or maybe even new) guns for which there’s no support in terms of spare parts…

wow someone doesnt need to be working on anything he reg looks like a cave man beat on it.
if you did that toss you tolls in the pond and pay someone.

as for the barrel wunder if polishing it would do it some good?
Indeed… I think polishing is not good enough, marks are too deep. A fellow member here has kindly offered to properly hand lap the barrel, which is probably the only way it has a chance. Even then probably going to end up with a reverse choke, meaning larger bore at muzzle…

As word of encouragement. I think you’ll be able to get this barrel to acceptable as far as the interior finish is concerned. More than likely will still have scratches but they should smooth out with a good lapping. I’ve brought back a couple real bad crosman barrels in the past that were worse than what you have. Perfect mirror finish is not always the best , some minor “speed groves” may in fact be good.

I hope the member doing the lapping is going to use a lead lap and not the cotton jag method.

Maybe remove all the other lead in the barrel and see how it does?

I wouldn't expect a good barrel to shoot well with a bunch of lead in it.
Appreciate you chiming in!! This is how the barrel looks from “squeaky clean” after 100-200 pellets. I properly cleaned it when I got the rifle and meanwhile gave it two more “deep cleans”, meaning Hoppe and dry patches on rotation until white patch, ballistol and dry patches on rotation (to get the hoppe out), bunch of pulls with bore snake (without brush, lol) and, if needed, 5 or so strokes with JB and and ballistol again to get it out. 2-3 fliers every time shots all the way from clean to this…

Agree on the mirror finish not being generally “good”. Funny thing though, my understanding is that Evol barrels are polished to a shine from the factory…
