Excellent, I've seen too many nice original stocks ruined, sanding will always remove some wood. Chemical strippers let us finish the factory fine sanding while retaining wood and esp checkering. As you mentioned catalyzed finishes can be close to impossible, aircraft type stripper can be effective.

In my experience firmware updates can be problematic when you are way behind on updates. You may need to install an earlier firmware update to get the latest revision to work properly.
