It's no secret by now that the Icon barrels are complete trash. I have 2, one of them I cut down for a pistol and the other I was slogging through a rifle build with.
I don't know what the china factory thinks is acceptable but the crowns are abhorrent. I attempted a recrown on the rifle build which revealed that the bore isn't remotely centered in the barrel. It did tighten the groups significantly but still was nowhere near acceptable to me so I ordered the Barra 1100z replacement.
Night and day better barrel visually which is as far as I've gotten so if you want to follow along please do. I know a lot of the members here won't consider any gun that doesn't cost a couple grand so it won't be for everyone.
Here they are next to each other. The Barra is just about 1.25" longer, has a far better crown, the bore appears to be centered, and it has a better finish.
Unlike the Chrosman (my ultra edgy term for Chinese Crosman) it at least rolls true. $35 with shipping. It doesn't have the shoulder but the set screw divots seem to be perfectly where they need to be to line up the breech port. It's obviously slimmer and thus lighter which is certainly welcome. It will need some sort of shim to get the barrel band to clamp it tightly. Probably will use plastic. Chrosman thought they needed a mil spec bull barrel on this beast.
I have a bike show this weekend so I doubt I get to it before Monday but I will get it ported at 5/32 to match the valve port and slung into the breech to produce some groups to see how much it improves the accuracy.
Thats all I got fer now. Poke fun at me and my cheap rig if you want. I won't cry too hard. Hopefully Velocity doesn't send me a CEASE AND DESIST LETTER! LOL! Thanks for reading.
